EMBRACE BEAUTY - SOUL

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

Plant something. Rally your neighbors to sow seeds at the corner park, or join your town's sapling-planting committee. You and your community will delight together as it grows. Knowing that some dirt, water, and lots of patience can blossom into something so beautiful is a gift to everyone.

Even though it's snowing here, Spring is in the air (at least in everyone's mind!). My BH and i were just talking about a garden over the weekend! And I was thinking that I should bring in some fresh herb plants (mint, lemon verbena, etc.) for work to put in tea! I think they would grow under the florescent lights? Not sure what our city has, but a good thought to put out there!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

EMBRACE BEAUTY - BODY

Monday, February 13, 2012

Forgive your frizzy hair...or never mind your big nose...or just pick your least favorite body part and decide to show it some love for once in your life (or at least since adolescence.) Having self-compassion can actually help you cope with other shortcomings in your life, according to a study from Duke University.

Funny you should speak HAIR! I colored mine yesterday,
supposed to be Chocolate Caramel... but it's
RED HOT!

So, I'm gonna have to hold my head high and LOVE IT!

EMBRACE BEAUTY - MIND

Sunday, February 12, 2012

Gaze at art. According to a study last year from University College London, when people looked at paintings they liked, MRIs showed that the medial orbitofrontal cortex, part of the brain that governs pleasure, lit up. The caudate nucleus, which is the nerve center relating to romantic love, also brightened.

Interesting, as I get pleasure in looking at art when I go to the art
festivals. It really makes me feel good.

Now I know why.

The Secret Life of Beauty

Saturday, February 11, 2012

True beauty is not so often found in big displays and orchestrated events as in small gestures, quiet corners and ordinary everyday occurences: a sunrise, a rainbow, a child playing in the waves, a sweet pea vine twirling around a garden stake.

Where do you discover beauty?

Double Duty Workout

Use those deep "yoga breaths" when you feel stressed. As you release the tension, negative thoughts often vanish, too.

Pausing to take a deep breath of any kind, anytime: Good stuff!

I keep forgetting those deep breaths, thanks for the reminder.

Should do them throughout the day, even when not stressed.

I like to get by myself for about 10 - 15 min. to unwind when I'm feeling overwhelmed. I'll have to try this too! Thanks.
