Finally getting past cold

Sunday, January 29, 2012

Finally getting over the worst cold I've had in years. Really knocked me flat. Lost my appetite, no energy, just wanted to close my eyes and veg in front of the TV, which is exactly what I did. No exercise for more than a week, the longest I've gone without exercising in more than 3 years. I still have a cough and some congestion but I finally feel human. I did some exercise yesterday, finally, some elliptical and some walking. Felt good, but I'm restarting slowly.

For today - elliptical and Walk It Out video - total of 30"

Made a big pot of veg bean soup yesterday. We'll be having that for several dinners this week. I'm also going to make some baked peach oatmeal today. That will give me several lunches this week. The soup and the oatmeal will both help me get back to the healthy eating again.

I'm so glad you're feeling better. A cold can make you feel SO bad and mentally your thinking can be bleak. Good idea about the soup. Come to think of it, I should make some vegetable bean soup for my Mother. I hope you continue to recover at a fast pace. It seems unfair to have back issues AND a cold or anything else! As it has been said, this too shall pass. I hope it passes VERY FAST for you.

Tuesday's plan

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

I did great yesterday !!! I stayed in my calorie range and had ample fiber. Most important, I had NO sweets !!! A biggie for me !!!

Exercise I did 10 on the elliptical before breakfast, another 10 mid afternoon, plus 20 Walk It Out in the morning.

Good start to today - 10" on the elliptical before breakfast, Leslie Sansone DVD before lunch (15"), another 15" cardio sometime before dinner. I've planned today's menu and have a batch of baked peach oatmeal in the oven for my lunch today.

I am SO happy for you. You are doing a REMARKABLE job improving your health! Please check out the post I wrote about a TV show that is, next week, tackling the issue of curbing the sugar habit. I'm SO impressed with what you have done and maybe they will show something that you can add to your "bag of tricks". Sugar issues are very difficult to resolve, but sugar can be so damaging to us, this might be worth the watching to you.

Saturday/Sunday plan

Saturday, January 07, 2012

Headed to a friend's for dinner today. She was once married to my brother, many years ago, has been remarried for more than 25 years but I still think of her as my sister in law. She's making lasagna for dinner, my Mom's recipe. I love it but never make it. The only time I have it is when my sister in law makes it. MMMMM My plan is to watch portions today, enjoy but don't go crazy.

Tomorrow, Sunday, is my official restart day. Back to the food journal, calorie counting, fiber counting. I'm making a big pot of veg soup tomorrow. Lots of leftovers for the coming week. Sounds just as yummy as today's lasagna !

Good for you, I think years of eating terribly is just ingrained and the older we are the harder the habit is to break, together, we'll stay the course, together we'll occasionally stry, but always knowing that eating healthy and moving is the way to true body happiness. have a great day!

New Year, New Goals/Promises

Sunday, January 01, 2012

Each year I set goals and make promises to myself for the coming year -

2012 Goals/Promises to Myself -

Make healthy eating a priority
Increase fiber intake to at least 25 Gm daily
Be aware of portions
Get sweet tooth under control

At least 30" exercises most days
Strength exercises twice weekly
Allow one rest day a week
Try some new exercise videos
Try to increase daily exercise by 10"

Smile more
Practice positive thinking
Be kinder to self

We're starting the New Year with our traditional "good luck" dinner - sauerkraut, pork, mashed potatoes, peas. One of my favorite meals, but one that I usually only cook on New Year's Day. This afternoon we'll watch the Mummer's Parade from Philly on TV, another annual tradition. To earn my yummy holiday dinner I'll be doing 30" walking with my Walk It Out video sometime after lunch.

Happy Sparkling New Year to All !

    Hi there,
You have clear goals in several areas which shows me what I already recognized--you are well-rounded and healthy in a lot of ways. Best wishes on your success to show off for all of the rest of us. You can do these--and you are well on your way to being the physically healthy person you are working towards.

I hope that your New Years Day that was full of traditions went exactly as you wanted.
Gentle hugs,
Sylvia

Quiet Christmas

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

I did pretty good over Christmas. Didn't overeat for Christmas dinner, watched portions, enjoyed the goodies but limited them. Wasn't able to fit in exercise the last two days, too busy with cooking and company. Today is a rest day, I'm exhausted, I'll get back to my regular exercise tomorrow.

We had a nice quiet Christmas, just four of us, hubby, my Mom and my best friend. We do Christmas a little different. We're all on fixed incomes with limited funds for gift giving so we do a dollar store Christmas - we each buy 10 one dollar gifts for each other. They can be anything, useful, goofy, whatever. We toss wrapping paper all over as we open our gifts, and anything wearable we have to put on. (my hubby ended up wearing reindeer antlers, a chicken visor, a knit hat and unmatched socks!) It's a lot of fun. Takes us forever to open all the gifts. Lots and lots of laughing ! The rest of the day we sit and talk, watch videos, have dinner. All in all a very pleasant day.

It sounds like you made the day special and enjoyed yourselves--that is really what the day is about. I hope you took a few photos to remind you of the special day and relationships throughout the year!

Happy New Year!
Gentle hugs,
Sylvia
