I canít get a break !
emoticon

First the MVP acts up and I feel yucky, now the back is acting up. Geez ! The pain has been worse lately, but the past few days have been nasty. The turmeric doesnít seem to be working as well as before. It usually takes the edge off, doesnít make me completely comfortable, but makes it more bearable. Lately, not so much. I switched to a different formula that had worked well before, but even that isnít doing the job. The last 2 days were awful. Hopefully this is just a flare and will settle down. For the time being Iím taking both turmerics Ė the Super Bio in the morning plus one of the regulars at lunch and dinner. Hopefully if this is a flare that will help calm it down.

Iíve also been doing more research on what I can take since Iím allergic to some arthritis meds and canít tolerate others (Celebrex, anti-inflammatories, glucosamine/chondroitin, gabapentin).

So far Iíve come up with Ė

Fish oil Ė Iíve taken before but doesnít seem to do much
Bromelain Ė havenít taken as a separate supplement but there is a small amount in the regular turmeric forumula that I take, less than the suggested dose. I might try adding this.
SAMe Ė tried once, didnít seem to help, however I might not have taken it long enough, according to what I read. Itís also more expensive than other supplements.
Flaxseed Ė Iíve taken before, didnít seem to help with the arthritis pain.
Boswellia Ė I took for a while, didnít do much.

So I guess Iím stuck with the turmeric, maybe a larger dose. I did read the max suggested dose is 500mg 2-3 times per day or 1000mg once a day. I am taking less than that so Iíll increase it for a while and see what happens.

I've never heard of taking turmeric for the pain. I would like to know more about this as I have pain on a daily basis. I'll have to google and see if I can find out more. Hope you have had some relief.

Sorry you are in so much pain. It sounds like you like natural remedies so my suggestion my not be useful, but what helps me is Capsazin. Best wishes on finding a remedy that works for you.

Sorry you're discouraged today and in pain. I sat around for over 3 yrs feeling sorry for myself (not saying you are doing that) because all the things I tried, even surgery didn't help my sciatica pain. Finally realized all it was doing was making me stiffer and gain more weight. But I know how easy it is to just sit instead of move. It's hurts to move. I still don't do well with the exercising but know I should do it anyway. Hope you get some relief soon. emoticon

I am on a similar journey and tired of meds that have awful side effects.

I make a turmeric paste with water, cinnamon and stevia and keep it in the fridge. I take a tbsp. and eat this when my pain is bad. Like you said, it doesn't take away the aches completely, but is safer than celebrex. I had to give up celebrex due to my stomach acting up too much.

Thanks for sharing what works and doesn't work for you.

Spark hugs from one achy body to another!!

So sorry you are experiencing so much pain. I hope you can figure out what is best for you. I have osteoarthritis and do take some of the things you listed but not sure they really help.

Feel better and have a good weekend!

Much Better !

Thursday, April 18, 2013

Definitely getting back to my normal routine. I've been exercising every day, mostly elliptical and walking. The heart pounding is much better, I'm not quite as tired, less winded. Guess I really do need the higher dose of med. Darn.

Had a nice day at my Mom's last week. We sinned for dinner, went out for a fattening meal - I had a chicken cheesesteak and some fries. It was delicious ! I rarely eat that way, so I enjoy it and never feel guilty. As we were leaving to go home my Mom said she needed to see me in the kitchen. She said she had a surprise for me, opened the frig and pulled out an apple crumb pie she made for me! She makes the best pie, but only makes them a couple times a year, so I was completely surprised and I think I squealed in delight ! She started laughing and said I broke her eardrums !
I thoroughly enjoyed the pie, hubby and I polished it off over the next few days.

So happy to hear you are doing so much better....and as far as that sandwich and pie....we all need to just let go sometimes to stay on this journey....at least that is what I believe. Have a great day!

Almost there !

Slowly but surely I'm getting there ! The increased med is kicking in. The heart pounding has lessened, I'm sleeping better. Still tiring fast but not as quickly as earlier in the week.

I haven't done any scheduled exercise yet, but did store walk Monday and yesterday. Monday I was exhausted when I got home but yesterday I was just a little tired. Nice !

Today we're headed to my Mom's for the day. That's a long drive so I'll probably be pooped when we get home and will take tomorrow to rest.

Saturday I'm going to begin to slowly restart my exercise, starting with a Walk It Out walk.

emoticon all for your support and encouragement !

Still not there yet

Rested most of the weekend. Did do some walking on Saturday that left me winded. I thought I'd be ready to start some walking today, but nope, not yet. Still have the pounding, get winded easy, tire fast. I've been on the higher dose of med since Friday. It is a little better - I was more comfortable when I went to bed last nite. So I'm going to play it by ear with the exercise and take it a day at a time. The doc did say that I might not notice improvement until later this week. I guess I just have to be patient.

I feel your frustration. I have had an awful cough for three weeks (finally on the mend), but during the worst of it I couldn't do any exercise because I would just have coughing fits. Hang in there and yes, be patient. This too shall pass. Take care and I hope you feel better real soon. emoticon

Finally caught up to me so I'm taking a "me" weekend

Friday, April 05, 2013

emoticon
I've been having a rough couple of weeks, thanks to my darn mitral valve prolapse. It's been in good control for at least 9 years, but last week symptoms started to return - pounding heart beat, short of breath, extra tired. It started gradually and I thought it would subside, but the past 2-3 days it's been almost constant. Uncomfortable, but not life threatening. I knew what it was because it's happened before so I wasn't alarmed, and I hate to complain.

Two years ago my med was reduced, and if the symptoms came back I was to up it and see my doc. I upped it today, called the doc but she was off and I couldn't get an appointment for 2 weeks. Her partner wanted me to go to the ER. No way. Been there, done that, when this happened 9 years ago. They didn't do anything.

I asked who else could see me and they had me come right in. I saw the partner, who agreed the MVP was acting up and wrote me a new prescription for the higher dose.

Now I'm exhausted. So this weekend I'm taking extended "me" time, the whole weekend. No exercise, lots of rest, not doing anything I don't feel like doing. I'm going to be totally lazy.
