December will be better

Sunday, December 02, 2012

November was a rough month. A good part of the month I wasn't feeling up to par. I have IBS (irritable bowel) and I was in a flare most of the month, then just as it was settling down I got a migraine. Geez ! My exercise was hit and miss, so was my healthy eating. As of today the migraine is gone, I've moved past the fatigue that leaves, and the IBS flare is leaving.
Now it's December, holiday time already. I did fair with my Fall Game Plan but did get off track here and there in November. I'm going to get back to that plan and add to it.

Revised Holiday Plan - now thru early January -

No food journal
No calorie counting
Everything in moderation
Choose healthy most of the time
Regular exercise
Set daily Goals

Today's Goals -

Choose healthy meals
Enjoy any treats you want, don't go nuts
Exercise - cardio 20" X 2

Holiday Goal - do not gain

Sounds like a smart plan! I've always felt moderation is key. emoticon If you deprive yourself completely you will be miserable and end up binge eating. emoticon So enjoy the holidays without going crazy and you should be fine. Merry Christmas! emoticon

Day 2 1000 Calorie Mindful Eating Challenge

Monday, November 05, 2012

Did great yesterday ! It really does feel good, physically and mentally to eat healthy. I followed my menu, the only thing extra was a little cheese at dinner. It did put me over 1000 calories but not by much. I exercised – did ABBA walk in the morning and Wii Tennis in the afternoon for a total of 40+ minutes.

I plan to do it again today – (Potluck Day)

B – oat bran/juice
L – tomato soup/black beans
D – peach oatmeal
S – yogurt

TOTAL – just under 1000 calories

THINK before you eat !
Make those calories count !!!
ASK – Would the healthy me eat this ?
Eat healthy, Feel healthy !!!

Listen to your body not your mind !!!
Eat only when physically hungry !!!

Well done! I love having soup as part of my daily meals, so filling for pretty low calorie count but still giving you good nutritional impact.

With a little creativity, it's amazing how much healthy food you can cram in to 1000 calories. My successful calorie range is 900-1100 calories a day.

Good for you!

Successfully completed first 1000 calorie challenge.
Challenge Goals Met - Make every calorie count, Do not squander calories, Think before you eat

Didn’t do so good yesterday. Started the day OK, but gave in to a cashew temptation and went crazy, snacking away on them. That set me up to mess up at dinner and after. Had planned on fish and peas for dinner, ended up having pizza. Didn’t enjoy it, wasn’t our usual choice. Then when we went to Weis we got cake slices for dessert. All in all a bad day.

I think stress played a part. We’re bracing for what they’re calling “Frankenstorm”. The perfect storm, 3 storms are merging right over us, we’re expecting buckets of rain and very high winds. We’re as ready as we can be but just thinking about losing power, or trees coming down, or water getting in, is stressful. I’m trying not to worry too much but it’s all over the news so I can’t help thinking about it.

Today’s plan –
We’re eating our frozen and refrigerated foods for now, just in case the power goes out we’ll have less to lose.
B – oat bran/juice
L – grilled cheese/steamed carrots
D – Marie Callendar turkey
S – yogurt – twice if I want
Exercise – ABBA walk or Leslie Sansone this AM/Wii Tennis this PM

I will do better today.
I will not let Frankenstorm derail me.

Feel Healthy

Fall/Holiday Plan

Thursday, October 25, 2012

I am so terrible at blogging, I'm so inconsistent. I do a daily "accountability" letter to myself, offline, critiquing the previous day and planning the day ahead. It's the first thing I do when I get on the computer. Later, when I get to Spark I don't feel like blogging.

Part of this morning's letter -

emoticon Fall/Holiday Game Plan emoticon

Starting Friday, 10/26 -

Food Journal and -

Friday/Saturday – 10000 Calorie Challenge
Sunday/Monday – 1250 calories max
Tuesday/Wednesday – 1000 Calorie Challenge
Thursday/Friday – Mom here for my Birthday – Enjoy !
Saturday thru day before Thanksgiving – 1250 calories max, alternate with challenge

Thanksgiving until January – take a break
No food journal
No calorie counting
Everything in moderation
Choose healthy most of the time
Continue regular exercise

January – restart plan alternating 1250 calories with 1000 Calorie Challenge

There are plenty of obstacles in your path.
Do not allow yourself to become one of them.

Progress not perfection.

This sounds like a great plan. I need to start writing myself a letter reviewing the day effort. What a great idea!

So great to plan for the upcoming holiday season. I also love the idea of a morning letter to self, very cool. Thank you for sharing that with us.

No more scheduled free days

Wednesday, October 03, 2012

Today is a fresh start. New month, revamped program. The main change – no scheduled free days, they don’t work for me. The 5 day challenges followed by a free day was not a good plan. I did good for those 5 days, but no matter how well I thought I planned for the free days, messed up big time every time. So no more.

I’m going back to what worked in the past –

Make healthy choices most of the time.
No pre scheduled “off” days
Food journal most days for now
1250 calories max most days
No sweets most days
May go off program, including sweets, when with company or on special occasions
If you slip get right back on track

Remember –

Healthy eating is for life
I refuse to go back to my old unhealthy lifestyle
Eating healthy feels SO much better than eating unhealthy
Be accountable to yourself – daily letters

Forget past mistakes.
Forget everything except what you’re going to do from this point on.

"May go off program, including sweets, when with company or on special occasions. If you slip get right back on track "
I like this kind of thinking. You (and me too) should have the self control to enjoy a special occassion and friends without making yourself sick over it. I don't plan for free days. When they happen they happen. Nothing to get crazy about.

"Forget past mistakes. Forget everything except what you’re going to do from this point on."
This is also wonderful. Don't dwell on it. Learn from, apply it, and move on!

Yay for fresh starts!

    Hi there,

I love the determination as well as the high quality of ideas in your blog here. I hope that you are hanging on and getting used to this plan.

I agree that "off days" do more harm than good--I used to go out to eat after I had my Weight Watchers weigh in and meeting. How dumb was that? I am now doing what I like and am comfortable with every day and things seem so much easier. I feel better, just like you said.

You can do this and if you need a bit of a push, let me know.
Gentle hugs,

That's the way to pick up and go again. I think it's an awesome plan and I'm all for NO FREE DAYS. I want the results and I'll go that extra mile to get them. I will just rotate between cardio and strength. ;)

Love the plan.....I just did a revamp of my plan....simply going back to basics. emoticon Since reaching my goal it has been a struggle so I figure if I go back to what I was doing (especially being accountable) I will ease into maintenance again later.....I believe it is all about how we feel....and I felt much better on my plan...before. Best of luck to you on your continued journey. emoticon

Great plan! Your current plans will be easier to keep up with since it treats all days the same and you will try to do your best on each one. I think having scheduled "free" days makes the "not free days" seem like work instead of real life. Making this healthy lifestyle a change for life will involve treating every day as just another day in your life and not an "on diet" or "off diet" day. I hope you see the results you're looking for this month!
