Last day of Christmas break for my boys :-(

Tuesday, January 03, 2012

Today was the last day of Christmas break for my kids... I've had fun having them home (not to mention getting to sleep in a little on my days off instead of getting up at 6am to have Adam get ready!)

We went to a free museum for a while today. They had a lot of fun doing that. Then we went to TJMaxx (love that store!) I got 2 medicine balls by Danskin, 8# and 10# to use for P90X2. It calls for 2 8's for the workout, but it looks like they're just balancing on them, and the balls are similar in diameter so I got the 2 different sizes. They were only $12.99 and $14.99! The ones that I was looking at online were about $35 a piece! I also got a shirt from there. Then we went to Goodwill (I love thrift store shopping). Nothing there really caught my eye so next we went to a Salvation Army that a friend at work was telling me about. It was so much bigger than ours! I didn't even make it all the way through it! I got 2 cute tops, spent $7.40 total.

Tonight was our family night (we do family night every Tuesday, everyone takes a week to decide what to do for that night, with a budget limit). Tonight was my youngest son's night. He wanted porkchops for dinner (he loves his meat, lol!) and he wanted to get Mr Popper's Penguins from Redbox. Such a cute movie!

Tomorrow I'm picking up my friend and we're going to do a little shopping... I want to check out Target's clearances, and they have the sports bra's on sale that I like. Next we're going to our TJMaxx here in town. My youngest wanted a pair of Echo jeans that we saw at the other TJMaxx, but they only had size 10 and he's a 8... We should have a lot of fun! Then Thursday it's back to work....

Thanks! We've had some interesting picks for family days... Wii games, Monopoly, bike rides, movies, Redbox, dinners out... I'm waiting for a deal to pop up on a rock climbing place that's about 30 minutes from here... It'd be really expensive otherwise for the 4 of us!

We had family night every Tuesday night, too! That is, until our oldest left for the Army. We went to a movie or got one from Redbox, played games (Sequence was almost always a hit) ... wow, I miss those days.

Enjoy your shopping day tomorrow!

Chalene Johnson's PUSH Book...

Tuesday, January 03, 2012

Is anyone else reading Chalene Johnson's PUSH book? I'm on day 5. So far, I think that it's just like her video series that she offered free online (I think you can still watch it) but with worksheets. I had ordered the book off of Amazon. It's pretty good, it really makes you look at your goals and shows you how to work toward them. I'm going to read ahead a bit since I go back to work on Thurs (12 hour days) and it's hard to get that in along with my Bible reading and working out before going to work...

Just curious who else is doing it and what do you think of it?

Me! Agreed that it's similar to 30 Day Push. I like the emphasis on getting clear about priorities & aligning your goals w/ them. It's helped me break down my action steps into what's realistic, not 'what I think I should accomplish'. The priority clarity was my missing piece so for that it's worth it.

New Year's Resolutions

Sunday, January 01, 2012

1. Read the Bible in a year (I have done this before, but this time I want to read all of the commentaries in my Life Application Study Bible so that I can really dig into the Word!)

2. Training for a 1/2 marathon (Race date May 6th)

3. Quality family time- be fully present when we are together. Encourage my boys to become Godly men and put God first

4. Support my husband in his new role as a pastor at our church

5. Spend less time on the Internet. Spend time with God first before jumping on the Internet first thing in the morning

6. Cut out *added* sugar. Doing "Fit for My King" fast with friends starting Jan. 2

I revised the "no sugar" to "no added sugar." I'm not getting totally crazy, I'll still use some canned things like spaghetti sauces, and the Arnold bread that I like has some sugar in it. However, I'll keep looking for other options that are even healthier for me :-)

Signing up for a half-marathon!

Saturday, December 31, 2011

As someone who always HATED running as a child, I am doing something I never would have dreamed of: I'm signing up to run a half-marathon with a friend! I have been thinking for a while that I want to start running more, since it really kicks you into shape! I have done about 4 5K's (as actual races that I participated in) and on my own without a race I've run about 6 miles at a time. A few people from work have been talking about a half-marathon that is coming up on May 6th that is in next city over from us (about 30 minutes from here). I kept thinking "I wonder if I could do that?" I mentioned something to one of the CRNA's at work, and he said he's doing it. I told him that I was "kinda thinking about it" and he said "DO IT!" Then I was talking to my friend Denise (who has done 2 half's before) and told her that now that I'm not going to be leading my workout group at church on Tuesdays, we should go running during that time instead. Then I mentioned the race to her, and she said "We should do it together!" and I said "OK!" LOL, so I guess I'm doing a half-marathon on May 6th! We downloaded a 12-week training schedule, we're about 16 weeks out. So in these first 4 weeks I'm going to a "marathon training prep" and get myself used to running again! I did 3.1 miles on the treadmill this morning, took 35 minutes with a 2 minute warm up and 2 minute cool down. We're going to set our training schedule so that our long runs will be on Tuesdays, since that's the day we'll run together and we both have that day off. She doesn't listen to music while she runs, so I'm going to start getting used to running without music. I did it this morning and it wasn't bad. I used part of the time to pray and the other time to think about our training that will be here before we know it! I feel that I now have to tell as many people as possible so that there is no way of backing out (I'd have to explain to all of those people that I chickened out if I did back out, lol!)

I'm going to have to adjust my P90X training schedule for this. I'm thinking of dropping some of the lower body days but keeping the upper body. We'll see as I get more into the running training. After my 5K on the treadmill this morning I did the P90X back/biceps and the ab ripper- both were scheduled for today. It wasn't bad doing it right after the run, just made for a long workout. I'll have to figure out something different on work-days, since I work 12 hour shifts (7:30am-8pm). I usually get up and workout at 5am before work so that I can be in the shower by 6am to get ready for work....

    GO YOU!

I'll be interested in hearing (reading?) about how you modify your P90X to accommodate your running schedule. I'm itching to get back to running again but just don't have the energy to do both on the same day... not to mention that would make for really long workouts.

God Provides!

Sunday, December 25, 2011

As my husband transitions to his new job as a pastor, he had decided to take a week off of working in between working at Coca-Cola and his new position at our church. The week is going to an unpaid week, but I figured that we could make it work one way or another. Well, this past Friday my husband noticed that my check was a lot bigger than it normally is. He asked if I knew that my check would be so big, and I said "maybe they paid my all of my retro-money for my BSN raise." Went to work that day and looked at my pay stub, and found out that they paid me for my raise all the way from July when I finished my last day of school. And here's the awesome part: that amount of money is what Jon was missing by taking this coming week off. Our God is so wonderful, and He always provides when you trust Him!
