Hello My Spark friends:)
Just wanted to add this note to say how much I miss talking to all of you - been a while. I also wanted to tell you about my trip to Ireland....
Ireland is a magical place. There is a reason for it calling my name. Not just because of my heritage, but the beautiful rolling hills, the bright green plains and everything there is to see! My daughter and I started our journey in Dublin on tour on a bus. It is a great way to do a first trip since you don't know where you are going - and hey, everyone drives on the other side of the road..lol. Anyway, so the day we arrived we took a bus tour of the city, seeing the replica famine ship in the harbor, hearing about the history and what is going on now. Did you know they too are having an economic meltdown with lots of foreclosures including office buildings?? Guess the same the world over. Anyway, we stopped at Trinity College and toured the grounds and saw the Book of Kells - amazing the intricacy of the documents. My daughter was salivating at the library which reaches to the ceiling and is curved.
The following days we toured the southern end of the country and visited Blarney Castle, Bunratty Castle, the Cliffs of Moher, Shannon, Galway and a host of other places.
When we went Blarney Castle - the grounds are huge and beautiful. The Blarney Stone is located at the very top of the Castle, and what I didn't know was that it is built into the front foundation wall. I wasn't going to kiss it - a lot of people did - but I did want to see it. Thank heavens I had lost the weight that I had. The castle stairs are the small winding turret type stairs made of stone with no railing. I am EXTREMELY claustrophobic and once you start there is no way to turn around and get back down - just no room. Obviously, there weren't fat people that lived there - unless they stayed on the bottom floor...lol. Anyway, I just kept my face looking at the stairs - and where there was a very small window opening I would put my face in it and breathe - wasn't panting which is amazing - just FRIGHTENED..hahahaha. And when I got to the top - they were sliding people on their back over an opening with bars to kiss the stone to gain the gift of eloquence. I knew right then and there for sure I was eloquent enough..hahahahaha....but at least I saw it.
At Bunratty Castle we had a medieval banquet, complete with harp and mandolin players, singers, greeters and everyone was dressed in medieval costume. We also were forced to eat with only a knife they way they did at that time period. Lovely. My daughter will always remember me flicking part of my pork ribs into her drinking glass...hahahahaha...
The Cliffs of Moher are very high and border the Atlantic Ocean....totally beautiful. I guess although I have a lot of fun memories, the thing I will always remember about Ireland is the land...the bliss that I felt by being there - and hopefully will return before my days on this planet are over. As for my weight, well, I am still pretty much where I was. One of my Spark Friends was right - you walk a lot. However, I found with Ireland that you eat pretty healthy too. Their breakfast is huge - eggs, sausage, bacon (which we call ham over here btw) cooked mushrooms, cooked tomatoes and pork and beans! Of course bread and potatos too - but I didn't eat those. The other meals you could always get meat and veggies and of course a variety of potatoes - and dessert was available, but wasn't all that interested. So, was able to hang in there and not go wild - I consider a major victory and hopefully a permanent change to my eating habits......
Anyway, if I get a chance I will have to post some pics - my daughter took them and they are pretty good - would really like to share my journey with you - my friends:) So, have a good day cause I'm gonna...

Oh, that sounds like such a wonderful trip! (You wouldn't catch me climbing those narrow steps with no railing!) Everything else sounds great though. I'll look forward to the photos!

Getting Ready!

Saturday, June 25, 2011

Hi Everyone!
Have been busy doing all the last minute prep for my trip to Ireland and England. As the time gets closer, the more excited I get. This is a bucket list thing for me - I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Ireland; don't know if it is because I am half Irish and the homeland has been calling my name, or the fact that I have red hair and know it's pretty standard to be a GINGER there, or I just sense an inner fairy beckoning for peace.

Still hanging in on the weight thing - but, if I don't gain it will be amazing. Yes, I do plan to sample the beer, go to local taverns, talk to the people that live there, and totally initiate myself in all that is Irish. I can only hope that I will make wise choices and the gain will be minimal - because I still have around 10 I would like to lose. Once lost, I need to then start toning - but not gonna do that till I get back as I wouldn't want to hurt myself and enjoy my trip less.

If you watch my blogs, I'd like to tell you and encourage you to check out another one. A very dear friend of mine has a niece that has cancer. Lily is 10 years old and is fighting the good fight. In an effort to bring some joy to her life, Kim sent out two stuffed toy turtles into the world and a blog has been created to follow their travels. Currently, Bernice resides with me. I have already posted pics of where I live. Bernice will accompany me and my daughter Kari to Chicago where we fly out, portions of Ireland, and England - where I will mail to another spark buddy. I will be posting pics there also, and I hope you follow our travels and pray for dear Lily - there is more about her on the website. The website address is bernice-turtle.blogspot.com
Have a good day - cause I'm going to!

Thanks for the tip on the scales; I didn't know you can retain water from flying. And Leslie - thanks as always for the support - will be sure to be updating so watch Bernice travel the country with me...lol

Have a wonderful time! You'll get loads of exercise walking around. And don't go anywhere near scales for a while - long flights can make you retain more water (don't ask me how!) so it's best to let things settle down.

Ireland is beautiful.

I'm so glad Bernice will be going with you. I am praying for Lily.
Have a wonderful trip, and I hope you will have time for some updates along the way!

The Journey Continues....

Sunday, June 05, 2011

Hi There!

Have been back from the movie set for almost 2 weeks now, but just haven't felt like blogging..
Anyway, wanted to let you all know that I did take a refrigerator with me and food. The food didn't last because I had a roommate that didn't close the fridge all the way and I had to throw out some of it - oh well. As I continued, I ate some of the catering and donuts and managed to lose some weight while I was there - very happy about that.

And so, as the blog is titled - The Journey Continues. I reset my goal this morning since Sparkpeople would finally let me and will hopefully make it before I leave for Europe on 6/30.

Today is a beautiful spring day - sun is shining and the temps aren't outrageously hot. It makes me think of beginnings. I planted flowers yesterday and the deck is shaping up to be habitable for the summer. My daughter has a new male friend who is moving in at an accelerated rate who is coming over today to meet us. He sounds like a nice guy; and after the hurt she has been through, a good person for her to be associated with - I am glad. Ordered a new very light laptop a couple of days ago to take with me to Ireland and England. The plan is I will use it and leave it for my daughter in case her's craps out over there - she needs her laptop for school.

So my friends - the Journey continues. The ever hopeful march toward health, weight loss, happiness, friendships and good weather....Have a good day cause I'm gonna :)

I think you're doing a fantastic job, Faye. As someone who has lost 28 pounds recently then backslid a couple, I'm hoping to draw from your energy and keep losing again. Your positive attitude is amazing.

The Day Before....

Saturday, May 07, 2011

Hi Everyone!
Today is the day before Mother's Day. It is also the day before I leave to work on a movie set for 2 weeks; so won't be around here too much. I have been looking forward to as well as dreading being gone for a couple of reasons...I will miss my family as well as my extended family here on Sparkpeople. Additionally, I have been doing pretty well with losing weight lately in my own environment. Working on a movie set is a typical 12 hour day - if you are lucky, and they feed you every 6 hours plus have granola bars and other stuff hanging around to munch on. As they have a new caterer lined up, I have had the comment "You will gain weight - the food is wonderful - he makes the best lasagna" thrown at me.

So, guess what I am planning to do?? I have a bunch of food I'm taking with me. I have a mini camping plug in refrigerator, and I think I can get a protein filled breakfast at the hotel if memory serves me right. I hope I don't run out before the end of the shoot - however, if I do there is a Meijer's right down the street and I probably would have at least maintained if forced to eat their food - all be it - a very small portion with a ton of water.

I will miss my family. However, also, we all have cell phones and texting - so we will be talking. I have prepped at least 12 dinners for them to dethaw and eat while I am gone which can be supplimented with pizza right?? And they will carry on their work, school routine in my absence.

So, at least I have a plan. Really hoping to at least maintain my current loss if not lose some more - or keep the gain minimal. Keep your fingers and toes crossed for me on that one. But, at the same time - it will be fun...yes, a lot of work, but a movie set can be pure magic - even with whining and drama from the other participants..I cannot express the pleasure of knowing that something is being made that will hang around a long time after I'm gone..ok so it's a horror flick and not art, but work with me on this I'm on a roll...lol

Well my friends - take care and have a good day - I'm gonna:) Love to all emoticon emoticon

If you run across anyone with an internet connection, check in and let us know how you are doing. Great planning ahead with the meals. If you can find someone to walk with, it might be fun to explore the new environment. Most of all, have fun and see you when you get back.

Happy 1st of May...as it is raining I am assuming that the April showers bring May flowers saying will hopefully be true. May - a true month of spring, and a true approach of spring. Supposed to be 71 degrees today; however, if it rains most of the days, these lovely white legs may not be seeing the crop pants purchased yesterday after all.

I am grateful. I am grateful that I made it passed my birthday this past week and still lost a pound (and 4 1/2 inches) - although the celebration included pizza, cookie cake and ice cream. I am grateful that on my birthday the best present I received was the news that my daughter in college who had had some major scheduling conflicts got permission to do an independent study with a professor (I bought her a box of candy in gratitude) will indeed graduate on time with a double major next spring around this time. And, I am grateful and overwhelmed that I had over 60 friends wish me a happy birthday....truly felt the love (I have a hard time with birthdays as a rule). So, a new orbit around the planet has just started, and I plan on continuing to pursue my dreams - getting healthier, getting lighter, and moving toward a job/career that I enjoy. Take care and happy May everyone - have a good day, cause I'm gonna:)
