Early morning walk

Saturday, March 02, 2013

I love walking as the sun is coming up. The world seems so peaceful. The air is fresh and this morning a little cooler. Since joining Spark I have read a lot of fitness articles. They mention that for some people getting your workout early in the day makes you more likely to actually workout. For me that is true. The longer in the day I wait, the less likely I will. My hubby is not a morning person, so my walking partner is my daughterís dog. He is always ready to lead the way.

What a cute puppy (at least from the backside, lol) and what a great idea. You seem to live in a great area for morning walks. I would so love to join you. I am a bit slow, though :) I found it hard to work out in the evening as well with my hubby being home and there is always something else to do. I have trouble taking time away from out time together, so I usually work out in smaller increments. But today, i believe we will take our puppies for a nice little walk so I can get some fitness minutes in. ;)

emoticon I like to walk our dog early in the morning too. Not a good walk though as she stops and starts lots. I try to walk on the treadmill when I get home. If I don't do it in the morning I usually don't do it....

Winter 5% Challenge question

Tuesday, February 05, 2013

My blog for today is about what are my reasons for losing weight. The main reasons are to feel better and live a healthy life. I have acquired hypothyroidism due to radioactive iodine treatment for Graves Disease and I have osteoarthritis. Most days I feel tired, my muscles ache and my joints hurt. After I turned 50, I developed high blood pressure. I believe that if my weight was closer to the normal range I would feel better and maybe get rid of the BP medicine. During the past 8 months, I noticed that when I exercised regularly and did daily morning stretches, there were less aches and pains. They returned in December when I stopped my Spark routine.

While writing this I realized there is one additional reason for losing weight. I do not want to be the heaviest person in my work place, in my family or any place else for that matter. I do not want to be the fat girl anymore.

Good for you FALLNTENN !! Yep been there done that for everything but the Graves Disease. I have Hashimoto's decease and have taken me medicine for it for years. But I still have the fatigue to some degree and and the aches and pains. I control them pretty much with tylenol.

You are right about the aching being better when we exercise. I have learned how much my body loves exercise, expecially walking. I hope I can go down on the blood pressure medicine also. I just found out that I have to work harder to burn calories because my blood pressure meds keep my heart from getting up into the burn calorie range. So I have picked up my push a little to burn while on meds.

Like you I don't want to be the fat girl anymore anywhere. Yesterday I had the gym trainer at the Ymca I go to show me how to program their bicycles. I have been doing zumba for a while so my legs are stong with that and the walking, but I need something different for now. So the trainer was very helpful, but when the machine came on to 1hour. She quicly reached over me to show me how to set it down to 30 min. I stopped her and said no I want the hour. She said "Really, Are you sure" . I said yes I have alread been doing it an hour and my legs are fine. She said Oh! Well good for you.

That made my skin crawl. I hate that because I am bigger I am treated differently and now I am doing something about it. Good luck in your journey, they say second times a charm and I hope it is that for you. Hugs Susan

First Blog

Monday, January 28, 2013

Today was a beautiful day here in Florida. It was Monday so I decided it was time to get back into Sparking. Somewhere in between Thanksgiving and Christmas I got side tracked. I didnít even log into Spark People. So today I started Sparking again.

During my hiatus from Spark, I noticed that my leg muscle pains and joint pains had returned. While I was actively Sparking, I made sure I walked every day (even if it was for only 5 minutes). I made sure every morning I did a set of stretches and watched my calorie counts. I regained 8 pounds during this break from Spark. Iím not very happy about that but Iím glad I didnít gain more. The main goal I have is to feel better and not hurt so much. So today I re-entered the Spark world.

One of the first things I did when I returned to Spark was read some blogs. One of my favorite bloggers wrote a blog about blogging. With her encouraging words I decided to write this, my first blog. Iím kind of amazed that I did because I used all the excuses for not writing that she mentioned in her blog. This is scary, but I will post it.

Happy Monday

Great Blog and Congrats on getting back! Your health is worth the time it takes to spark & blog. I have always stayed away from diet plans that say you have to log your food, everything you put in your mouth, and you have to journal. I thought that was all huey and brushed it off. But when I started Spark I said to myself this experience is going to get my full attention. I made a plan there and then that what ever it takes I will do and make a life change that will last forever. So when I started blogging I thought it was silly but I needed to comply. But I found that it was really cathartic to verbalize anything I felt or was going through here and have the support of others that have gone through the same stuff as me. I love blogging now even though it takes some of my time away it gives me so much more. Heres to wishing you a Great Blogging experience! Susan aka Sparkinator
