Why am I trying to get back to a healthy body? If not now? When?
I have a group of friends who have been meeting every Friday night for the past several years. Over this time the senior of the group has been in declining health. First heart surgery, then a stroke, and now a generally failing of health. After the stroke it took him months to relearn to walk. He never quit or gave up just worked hard. He has met each challenge with grace, grump, and humor. This Friday we all had to admit that he is no longer able to carry on our tradition. We met at his home as he is not healthy enough to go out. Sadly, even that seemed too much for him. We will find a way to keep contact and to include his wife (who is healthy) but it is heartbreaking to see his decline.
My weight is done by 4 ounces. Not huge but a loss none the less. I walked a total of 45,376 steps for a daily average of 6482 well over my 5000 goal. I will step it up to 6000 per day now.
Back to my friend. He is well into his 80's and has a wonderful wife of 65 years and 3 awesome children. He may be physically declining but his humor is still in tact. I've never met a person with so much stubborn will power in my life. Our visits will be shorter now but I will always look at his example as a way to live your life. With humor and a willingness to work hard.
