An update

Saturday, March 09, 2013

Here is the latest on Ev. She still is sore. No broken bones, at least. She does have a concussion. If she hits the spot, she gets very nauseous and has gotten sick over it. She is constantly tired and weak. She's also not very hungry, but appears to be gaining weight. That is probably because she finds it difficult to do her exercises. But all of you know how stubborn she is. She keeps on doing her best. She still doesn't remember what happened other than she tripped on something and fell. I have been reading your responses to my post and she smiles, then tears up and tells me how blessed she is to have such good friends. I thank each of you for that. You'll never know how much it helps her to be even more determined to get better and get back to you as soon as she can. She wanted me to tell you I've been doing her status and keeping track of everything for her trackers. She says I've really screwed up her status remarks and laughingly tells me she may have to stop me before all her friends think she is crazy. Thank you for all of your prayers. We both feel a person can never have too many in their life. She prays for all of you each day, but even more so during this lenten season.

Bob

So when I read her status in the past I would read Bob. I have worked with teenagers who will say something then say Bob, so i thought Ev was hip to this teenager fad. I hope she recovers well and fast.

Was she checked out by a doctor? I don't see if you mentioned that or not. I hope so. If she's gaining weight it could be from something caused by her fall, such as a blood clot or edema, so I hope she's keeping a close eye for that stuff. Normally a few days without exercise won't cause a significant weight gain.

Ev, I hope you're feeling better very soon. You're such a wonderful and sweet person, which is why we all care about you and are thinking of you. Take good care of yourself so you can come 'hang out' on SP again.

Thank you for the update. Tell her that she needs to get well before she tries to do to much, including exercise. She will get back into it, but right now, she should take it slow. If you haven't already, check with her doctor. We don't want that concussion to have any long-lasting, adverse affects.

Bob, I just posted on your first blog. Delighted to hear nothing is broken, but the head can be a problem. The old saying about "Get your head on straight" is so true and important. Our head weighs about 8 to 9 lbs when it is on straight and gets heavier when it is not straight. The cranial fluid does not run as well from our brain to the bottom of our spine when it is interrupted and can create numerous problems with headaches, vision and our balance. Give Ev my best and tell her I am sorry did not know of this earlier. Bob thanks for taking such care of her, you are a jewel.

Some prayers for Ev

Wednesday, March 06, 2013

This is Bob, Ev's other half. We were getting ready to go to Gainesville for her appointment with her therapist when she tripped on the hose and feel on the cement in the carport. She hit so hard, her head bounced off the cement and hit a second time. She also landed on her side. She didn't answer me for some seconds so I think she may have been out. Before we could walk to the truck, she had two lumps on her head and her hip really hurt. After I helped her into the truck, I went back into the house and got a pain pill for her. It relieved her head pain, but not the hip. Her doctor and the attending that checks her each visit felt she should go to the hospital. They were concerned about two things. Her vision was off and she had trouble following the doctor's finger back and forth and up and down. She told him before the pain pill the pain was coming around into her right eye. They were also concerned about her hip and feel she may have fractured it. By now most of you know how stubborn she can be. She refused going to the hospital. She promised me if things weren't better tomorrow she would let me take her. She was also nauseous and was afraid to eat anything and kept a bag in her hands. I wouldn't let her go to sleep all afternoon.

I doubt she'll be around much these next few days. I'm suspecting she isn't going to feel much better tomorrow and we'll end up at the hospital. She really should have gone as soon as it happened but she thought it more important to see her therapist as he isn't going to be around very much longer. He's going into private practice. plus she only sees him every six weeks. She said she needed her meds and would have to see him before he could prescribe them for her.

She really needs all of the prayers and good thoughts you can send this way. I want to thank all of you for being her friends. Her doctor brought up her blog today and saw some of the responses to the entries. He mentioned he thought this was a close knit concerned community. Ev told him it doesn't get any better.

Unfortunately the Dr.s have to CYA and say you must go to there for tests. Ev see your Dr. that you like and talk it over with him. Then you will know what you need to do. This and that

Tuesday, March 05, 2013

This week my new thing was to mentor someone. This i did for a new member for my sorority. She had never been to an on-line chapter meeting to know if she would like to join or not. I invited her to visit my chapter. I told her all about it before she attended so she would know what to expect. Our meeting started on Sunday and goes for the rest of the week.

***************************************

Yesterday i had an appointment with my chemo oncologist. To my surprise he was happier than he's ever shown before. He actually seemed friendly and joked! His family got a new puppy - a shikie, a shi tzu yorkie mix. He showed us several pictures of him. What a cute little guy. I had never seen one before, but he looked like a guy you'd just want to pick up and cuddle with!! They hadn't named him yet.

We went over my info to update everything. Then we went over the records. He was very happy i was past a two year mark for my breast cancer being gone and on my way to two years for the tonsil cancer being gone. He examined my breast and said they appeared clear to him. And some really good news - I don't have to see him for six more months111 YEAH!! i see his nurse to flush my port or whenever i need a blood draw, but not him. He even told us to call him if we needed anything before the next appointment! That is the very first time he has told me that, too!!
All and all a great checkup, considering it had been rescheduled because we forgot our check book last time for our $25 co-pay!!! Bob always goes in with me in case i forget anything, he'll remember.

While we were in town, Bob and i ran some errands. We each got an iced tea for our ride home, as a treat. We stopped at the American Legion for him to see the commander about their web page that he maintains. We also decided to come home to fix or meal rather than to eat out. Good choice, don't you think? The only treat Bob got for me was a package of animal crackers that should last me the month. I haven't opened them yet. When I do, most likely i'll only eat one or two for the day.

Once more I have managed to lose one of my good gold hoops. It has to be somewhere here in the house, but search as much as we did, we haven't found it. This is the second time i have lost one and it always comes out of my left ear.

Yesterday we barely made it into the 60's. Today was 70, but tomorrow is to be cold again with another possibility of a frost tomorrow night. This is so different than normal NE FL March weather. We are used to having everything green and azaleas blooming by this time of the year! And there is still so much pine pollen in the air because we haven't had much rain to clear it away. It's terrible as it bothers me a lot. I've had several bloody noses during the night and a night of a mouth full of blood because it bothers my sinus so.

So this is what has been going on at evwings and cruzer's house in the past few days. I hope everyone else has done better!! Stay safe and enjoy your days.

Peace Love Cure

Would you like to help me?

Saturday, March 02, 2013

Fairly soon I'm going to be needing some help with my short story by having at least three others - and preferably more - read it and critique it for me. It is for a contest and I have restrictions I must follow.

1. I must limit the word count and thus a lot of description won't work.

2. The subject has been selected and must be follow or it will be disqualified.

What I will be needing from the critiques is:

1. How well my story fits into the subject.

2. How the grammatical flow works - or not.

3. Does the way the story unfolds make sense to you?

4. How would you change it to make it better geared towards readers?

5. Did you like it - or not - and why. PLease be as specific as possible.

If you would like to help, please either leave it with your comments or send me a message so I can tell you how to find it when i'm finished with it. I'm in the process of finishing it and reviewing it. It should become available between now and the 15th. I understand this is Easter season and church activities are taking up more of our time than usual. I'm hoping for at least 6 - 10, but i'll be very happy with three!!

Thank you so much for reading my plea and even considering helping out! You are the greatest friends ever!!

Peace Love Joy
Ev

Friday, March 01, 2013

February was a very active month in our household. Once more something that I felt would be easy was a lot more complicated than I believed. This is the challenge I took to write so many words telling the story of one of my ancestors. I chose my mother, but most of the stories ended up being a series of facts. I really didn't put her into situations. I'm going to continue with writing these until I cover all that I know as fact.

As for the weekly challenge of doing something new each week, it went quite well. The first week I followed a dvd to learn to belly dance. I thought I'd like it, but I ended up loving it for exercise. The second week I tried a new fruit - rhubarb. It was ok, but I can't say I was terribly fond of it. Ill eat it again if someone offers it, but I won't go out my way to select it. The third week I found a new place to do some walking where I can take my dogs. It is really a nice neighborhood that is quite rural. The last week I tried a new veggie - Bok Choy. I really enjoyed it made as a slaw. We'll be having it again often. But we need to keep in mind that the cabbage grown around here in field after field is really good and i don't expect bok choy to take it's place!

My goals for February:

Health and Fitness:

1. Continue to maintain goal weight: Accomplished! Still at 120 lbs

2. Track both food and exercise daily Do so daily

3. When I mess up, not to be hard on myself, rather pick myself up and start brand new with my next meal, exercise, etc. I sometimes have to do this with my writing. It really goes to all our activities in life, not just Spark things.

4. Continue with weekly weigh-ins and immediate corrections if i gain more than 5 pounds. I do this every Friday morning after my shower.

5. To try to make the wisest choices I can for myself to remain as healthy as i can be. This can be very difficult at times, but I always do the very best I can.

Personal:

1. To stay as positive as i can no matter what comes my way. This, too, can be difficult, but is very encouraging. It is making my life a lot more simple!

2. Do something new every week. I listed this in my team challenges

3. Stay in close contact with my family and friends.
I am now playing a game much like scrabble with my friend in OH who is being turned over to Hospice. She always beats me!

4. Write! Write! Write! - The genealogy stories challenge. Although I did this, it wasn't nearly as easy as I thought it would be!!

5. Try my very best to give more than i get in this journey we call life.
Since i am so blessed with wonderful people in my life and terrific experiences, this is a difficult thing to do. I continue to do my very best, though.

I love your goal list. I can't wait to hear about the short story. Are the genealogy stories a writing project or a genealogy project, or both? I used to do a lot of genealogy research. Unfortunately, got stuck on an ancestor named James Brown who moved a lot-- amazing number of men by that name come from Virginia.

Wow! What a beautiful blog! I so much enjoyed reading your goals. The reason why you are doing well is because they are specific and you are writing them down. That's what I need to do and I thank you for the inspiration (and reminder). emoticon emoticon Chelsea
