My Day

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

Yesterday, I broke out in hives and rashes all over my body. Luckily my school nurse had some bynedryl and it help calm things down. Unfortunately, I woke up with more spots this morning and my bottom lip began to swell. As a person who has been checked for allergies and never once came up with anything this was concerning. So much I took the day off and took the first appointment available and didn't wait to see my own Dr. (would have gotten in during the afternoon).

God Bless Dr. Poluck who new exactly what I was talking about. In a way I am lucky for I know what is going on for it turns out I had this as a kid, just not this bad. It is called dermatographism which means I could literally use my finger to write on my body. According to my Dr. he wrote his initials on my back today.

Im happy to report I am on meds to stop the crazy histamines from overacting and allow my body to get back to normal. Unfortunately, today I had to take the day off from all exercise and for the next 15 days I am on steroids which means I am going to feel even hungrier. My husband has been given full rights to remind me that it is meds and not actual hunger when I eat. I am also passing that onto all my friends so that I stay in check and continue on this weight loss journey.

On a positive note, I think this is the first time my Dr. scale read under 190. And last night our wii said I lost a lb since last friday. :)

Tomorrow I will be at home again to hopefully get over this stuff. This could be my demise because when I am at home I don't eat all my veggies or fruits like I should. But my plan is to take advantage of being at home to exercise (yoga, wii challenges, some walking and bowflex) also some house work. And when it comes to food, I am going to remind myself like I did today, just say no!

Good luck everyone and make it a great Thursday! :)

I am feeling better! The steroids and zertec are doing a great job. Unfortunately the steroids are making me hungry and cause you to gain weight even if you eat right. I have gained 2 lbs since I start the meds but I have been told it will come off once I get off the meds. Trying to stay diligent what I eat so I do not gain anymore and keep up with my exercise. :)

Stress = Hives

Tuesday, February 01, 2011

This morning I got up like normal and began to get ready for the day. As I began to work on my hair I realized my head was extremely itchy. My first fear was lice for I am a teacher and have two little girls in school. Then normal thoughts of dry skin. Luckily it subsided and off to work I went.

Then 2nd period rolled around and had this sudden need to itch my legs. After inspecting in the bathroom I found some red spots and first sign of a hive. Again, I am thinking dry skin hoping it would all stop. As I sat in a parent meeting I realized it was not for I was now itchy all over was quikly finding hives and other red spots on my arms.

Luckily we have a great librarian assistant and she watched my kids so I could go to our nurse. Thank the Lord she confiscated some bendryl from a student and was able to give me something.

Now I have had skin problems before but it has been years since I had a flare up this bad. Nothing has really changed concerning my clothes or how they were washed. Our nurse thinks stress is the problem today.

My grandfather is currently in surgery due to blockages in his arteries in the legs. The surgery is risky. I have done so good keeping it to the back of my mind today I feel it has taken over my thoughts and I am not as productive due to waiting for a call/message from my family. Also, today we have a meeting with our superintendent and other central office staff. This could be interesting for it is about budget cuts and we do not know what is in store for that.

Hives are better thanks to the meds but I will be glad when today is over. What I am proud about is that I am not looking for guilty pleasures to see me through. Can't wait to eat my spaghetti squash dish, carrots and orange at lunch today!

Loves Cooking

Sunday, January 30, 2011

I love to cook and love trying out new recipes. This weekend I have had my dehydrator working hard on squash seeds, sweet potato chips and now green and red pepper seeds. :) Looking forward to bringing the chips to school with me tomorrow to share with my Healthy Schools committee and seeing what they think.

Besides the dehydrator going I took a spaghetti squash and made baked spaghetti. YUM! I got the basic recipe from one of our guidance counselors and it was a hit with the family. :)

Today, I got a crockpot of chili going full of veggies and looking forward to dinner. :)

28 Day Challenge Comes to an End

Saturday, January 29, 2011

So, I started out the month of January at 190 and just feeling in the dumps. In December I got one lb from claiming 50 lbs lost and then gained during the holidays. Due to burcitis my exercise was about non existant.

With all this said, I was ready for the 28 Day Challenge and was hoping it would get my butt in gear to exercise and get my food in check.

Food, well it can still improve but I am so proud of controlling my snacks and eating more veggies and fruit. :) I give some credit due to Survival Island that I am participating in at work and its weekly challenges. Need to get better with tracking my food (especially at dinner time) but still so proud of the changes I have made so far this month.

Exercise - WOW! I have been working out! I have kept up with all my 28 Day challenges except for repeating the daily videos this past week. That is what I get for not rereading the challenge when the week started for me. :( The past few weeks I started participating in the Wii Fit Plus's weekly challenge of 15 minutes and have loved the exercises chosen each day. :) For my cadio for the 28 day challenge I have alternated with working out on the elliptical and walking during the week. The weekend is my designate time for Yoga and look forward to it every weekend.

So what are the results.
1. I lost 7 lbs (one lb shy of claiming 50 lbs lost).
2. My clothes are looser and will have to go buy pants soon.
3. I look thinner.
4. My stamina is getting better.
5. I found myself some new chearleaders.
6. I feel more confident and feel like I fit in with other exercisers (no longer embarrassed to work out in the weight room at school).
7. More flexible with my Yoga poses.

With all this success I am encouraged to keep up with my exercise and food next month. Below are my goals for February.
1. Continue to log food and get better at it.
2. Continue to drink my 64 oz of water or more each day.
3. Work out on the bowflex at home 3 days a week.
4. Complete at least 30 minutes of cardio 4 days a week (non bowflex days).
5. Continue to do Yoga on the weekends.
6. Continue my wii challenges.
7. Complete at least one Spark Video a day.
8. Continue my Survivor challenges.
9. Continue to log my steps on Spark as well on 411fit.com for my school district's Wellness Program Challenge.
10. Loose 4 lbs putting me at 179.
11. Go closet shopping when I meet my goal of 180.
12. Loosing my Obesity Status and officially be classified Overweight for my BMI. :)

Gosh, that is a lot but so many of these I was already doing and know I can do it this next month. Good luck everyone with your journey and keep those goals in the forefront! :)

7 pounds is great! Tomorrow is my last day of the challenge. It's been good. You've established some terrific new habits and it sounds like you're well on the way to meet your goals.

Logging My Miles

Thursday, January 27, 2011

My school district has started a wellness program. We were all given water bottles and pedometers and they are scheduling workshops on healthy eating and so forth. They even created a group on 411fit.com which I find very similar to sparkpeople but just not as many resources with blogs and articles. Ohh and recipes!

Any who, with the pedometers we were given they set up a walking challenge. They asked us all to wear our pedometers everyday and log our miles on 411fit.com. Since we started in mid Jan. I have logged over 100 miles and out of 97 participants, I am in 2nd place! :) Right now, I am only 3 miles behind the leader and hoping I will take the number one spot. :)

Supposedly we will have weekly or monthly drawings for those participating and prizes at the end for the top people. Right now, I don't care about the prizes and just love seeing my name at the top of the list everyday. :) I love seeing the miles add up. :)

Keep up the hard work everyone and log those miles. :)
