Big Kahuna Triathlon - 70.3 Race Recap

Well I finally got around to posting my race recap - only a month and a half later! :)
I had an awesome race, the weather was perfect, and the views were amazing! So glad that we went for this race!

After the race, I did a 10-mile swim relay with 4 other ladies, and now I've switched gears to running a lot more - my goal is to run 1000 miles in 2013 - and right now I'm at 771 miles. I think I'm on track, just gotta keep plugging away at the miles!

    Awesome!! Sounds like a great race. Congrats on meeting your goals.

I had to chuckle when I read that the day before you painted your fingernails & toenails. It's something I always do before any race & thought I was the only one.

    Wow is right! Congratulations! You did great!

I can't believe I'm ahead of you in anything, but I'm also shooting for running 1,000 miles this year and I'm just over 826. But of course I'm not doing triathlons or any races at all this year since it has been super-stress time at work & with my mom seriously declining physically.

I have some pretty ambitious goals for 2015 (turning 60), so I'm trying to get back into training shape right now.

Update and new goals

Well it has been a long couple months... Paul had an infection in his ankle, which spread into his ankle joint. Some stats: 12-day hospital stay, 2 surgeries, 4 weeks of morphine, 8 weeks of antibiotics, 6 weeks of intravenous antibiotics (4 of those administered at home, by me). I can't believe that all just happened - Paul's still not healed all the way. He still has very restricted range of motion in his right ankle, is working through that with PT and pushing the joint - the range of motion will not increase unless he makes it move. He's walking with a cane - and is using our stationary bike to start up some cardio and it's good for his ankle too.

We're both weighing more than we want to - so we're both back on SP to track our food and exercise. It will be good for us to have this accountability and routine to fall back on.

And I signed up for the Orangeman 70.3 again - it's on Sept 8th. This is week 3 of my training plan - it's very much a loose plan - not strict at all. I'm loosely following this plan - triathlete-europe.competitor.
- just to have some idea of things to push myself during my workouts.

Anyways, that's my update - we'll be around more regularly for awhile, and we need to keep eachother accountable to do the right thing when it comes to the fuel we put into our bodies.

As soon as we both committed back to tracking and getting some lingering weight off, Paul got a very bad infection in his ankle and has been in the hospital for 7 days. Tracking don't seem so important now... but the stress of it all has brought my weight down. So I guess I'm done.

Well, I have 5 pounds that are being more stubborn than usual, so it's back to tracking food to kick my butt into gear! I'll be around for a bit.

February Food Challenge - Complete! And, a contest

Well, we finished the 30day YumUniverse challenge - plant-based and gluten-free for a month! It went pretty well, and wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. It's funny, now that we're done, it's nice to get back to just plant-based, and it makes plant-based seem that much easier lol
