Eating Better

Thursday, January 24, 2013

It's Day 4 of my Insanity/Light strength training program. I have been eating healthy and watching my portions. I'm still eating three meals a day with a few small snacks. A lot of people recommend eating six small meals. I have tried, but until I can really portion my food well, I am going to stick to this. Once I have portion sizes down, I will give that a shot. Typically my meals right now are:

Breakfast- Oatmeal with Whey protein & berries OR egg whites with salsa
Lunch/Dinner- Chicken & Sweet potato OR egg whites OR lean turkey with salsa OR lean turkey chilli or tacos (with no cheese) OR tuna fish

For snacks I've been trying to satisfy my sweet tooth with fruit or yogurt or a tablespoon of peanut butter. This has been the most difficult part for me. I crave sweets a lot. So instead of snacking on junk food, I have decided to blog! I think it's best if I go cold-turkey off of junk food. As you already know I have a problem with portions and this doesn't help me when I binge. I eat when I'm bored or upset and in order to live a healthier and better lifestyle, I need to stop.

Once in a while (right now I'm thinking once a week), I am going to "cheat." I think fro-yo would be a great indulgence for me since I already love it and when I go to the fro-yo store it's already portioned for me. It's hard for me to grab junk food from a store when I have to portion it. The worse is a pint of ice cream. I take the pint with me and before I know it, it's gone or my bag of watermelon sour patch kids is suddenly empty.

I posed some BEFORE pictures of me to help use as motivation when I feel tempted to eat junk food. I want to see those pictures next to later ones and see wonderful results!

I use a digital scale to portion out all my food. I even have a second digital scale that I take with me when I travel. Sure I may get some "side-eye" action when I take out my scale and portion out my food - but I know better than trying to eyeball it because my eyes will always be bigger than my stomach and I'll take more nutrition than I need.

I started SP in the way I mean to go so I have built-in a treat every day. It's easier to account for 80 -100 calories in my plan for a treat in moderation than deprivation.

Even my husband has the hang of portioning out his nutrition and he definitely doesn't need it. It's sweet and encouraging that he does it in support of me and he knows if he wants more he can take more but oftentimes he's satisfied with a serving size.

Good luck with your plan and see you round the EE SparkTeam!

Starting over with INSANITY

Monday, January 21, 2013

I love doing different programs, but sadly I have never completed one entirely. So, today (January 21, 2013) I am starting INSANITY. Hopefully I will be doing this EVERYDAY for the next 60 days.

I was adamant that I had to begin the program today being a Monday. I didn't want to wait despite the fact I am severely jet-lagged. I had a 9 hour day of traveling, but sometimes you just have to suck it up.

Day 1-

Switch Kicks- 25
Power Jacks- 50
Power Knees- 107
Power Jumps- 25
Globe Jumps -8
Suicide Jumps - 13
Push-up Jacks- 10
Low Plank Oblique- 35

I did not get the opportunity to weigh myself this morning (was traveling) so I will do that tomorrow morning and use that as my starting weight.

Wish me luck ;o)
