7:12 a.m. and already posting....again.

Monday, July 05, 2010

So, my alarm goes off at 4:30. Ugh. I can't believe I promised hubby I would run before spinning every day that I have to run this week. I am trying to be as supportive as I can, but this may turn out to be a bit of a sacrifice on my part, especially if I ever have as much trouble falling asleep as I did yesterday. It took me 3 hours to fall asleep! Ridiculous!!! I have never had trouble falling asleep, except for when I was pregnant (and believe me, I am NOT pregnant now).

I did get up, begrudgingly, and got ready for my run, downing a banana and chugging some water. Got my gum, my tunes, my keys, and drove to the gym. I parked my SUV there, got out, locked it up, and took off on my preplanned trail of 4.13 miles (yeah, a bit longer than 4 miles, but a nice trail nonetheless).

The run started out shaky, with my foot hurting a bit (plantar fasciitis), but after about 2 minutes that felt better. Then, my calf started hurting a bit. Again, a few minutes later that felt better. Then, my knees started to ache, but about 5 minutes later that went away. The rest of my run actually went really smooth. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that the weather this morning was so perfect for my run. The sun wasn't up yet, it was about 65 degrees, no wind, and no mosquitoes (they must have been sleeping). Very relaxing run all in all, and I felt good!

I did spin after for 20 minutes, and then did the pump-it class on the condition that I would not participate in any lower body strengthening (i.e. lunges/squats) since I knew that would undoubtedly be too much. Fortunately, the class focused on triceps, biceps, shoulders, and abs, so I feel I had a very well-rounded workout. And geezalou, I even got all of my tracking and blogging caught up!

P.S. The reason I am trying to help my dear hubs out is because he is watching Kaylee every day this week since the daycare provider is on vacation. This is on top of working at the local grocery store from 5 p.m. to midnight today, Wednesday, and Friday; working at the school library tomorrow from 2-7, and then working again at the grocery store on Saturday 9-6 p.m.

And, again this week we are having our garage sale on Friday and Saturday (which I need to finish getting ready for), and Kaylee's 1st birthday is this Sunday, July 11!!! So, the stress level in our house is rising up a bit, more so for him than me....but I think that is because I get to run and work out, which is a fantastic stress reliever for me, and I really don't think he has something to really work his stress out. May have to discuss that with him.

So, I hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July!!! Maybe next year I can watch some fireworks!!

Until next time ~

Erin

You are amazing. All that exercise. I am impressed. I have been having a hard time getting motivated since we got back to vacation. I need to get hubby out of the house so I can get back into a routine.

Your schedule sounds more complicated than mine! My hubby is a firefighter, so he's not here two mornings in a row--well, he leaves at 5:30 one morning and gets home around 8 am the next morning. We live in Texas, so I try to run around 6 am, so I only get to run every third day. You are dedicated to get up so early. Keep up the good work!

Race Report for Sunday (updated with picture)

Monday, July 05, 2010

Let's see how fast I can type this before my daughter wakes up!

The Firecracker 5K here in Grand Forks, ND, started at 8:00 a.m., so I was up and raring to go at about 6:30...of course, I didn't have much choice being my sweetie pie woke up at 6:30. She is a good alarm clock!

There were about 100 or so participants, which was good since the race was on a bike path. I was worried about feeling crunched with other people while running since we had to make sure we were on our right for when the faster runners looped back (there was a turning point halfway for both the 5K and 10K). But, that turned out to not be a problem at all, at least from my point of view!

I started out strong, but maybe a little too strong. Before the first mile was up, I realized I would have to slow my pace a bit or I wouldn't finish running for sure. There were a couple of people who would run, pass me, then begin walking...then start running, pass me, then start walking again. It felt weird to keep passing the same 2 people. I ended up finishing before them, though I expected them to finish before me! I finally found out the race results this morning (the reason I waited to post my blog) and my official time was 32:00 (on the nose!) and though I do not know my overall standing, I did finish 6th in my age group (20-29...I am 29). Dang it, I would've finished 4th in my age group had I been 30!

So, at the end, I was running by myself, and my daughter and husband were waiting at the finish line for me! I was so happy to see them....made my day! (well, that and seeing my time shaved down by almost 5 minutes from my last 5K).

The rest of my 4th of July was pretty packed with doing things and I ended up wearing my husband out, which wasn't a good thing. Too much heat, too much humidity, too many mosquitoes, and a toybox cover slamming down on the baby's hand while he was watching her = him having a bit of a meltdown. But, he felt better after that and after some reassurance from me I think he enjoyed the rest of his night. We grilled out at a friend's house, and the baby and I went to bed at 8:30. Unfortunately for me, I had a bout of insomnia and ended up falling asleep finally at 11:30. This stunk especially since I had to get up at 4:30 in the morning to get my 4-mile run in before spin class/pump it because I told my husband I would take care of the baby until 8 (when I have to work) so he can "sleep in." He is watching the baby all week since our daycare provider is on vacation until July 12. I will talk more about how July 5 is going so far in my next blog, which may be coming sooner than you think (baby is STILL sleeping!).

Toodles!

Erin

T-2 days until HM training

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

So, today is going to be a crazy day, and I am definitely going to feel the aftermath tomorrow (read: DEAD TIRED).

In order to have time later, I decided it would be smart to do my 3.1-mile run before spinning this morning. It was COLDER out for sure! It was about 50 degrees. I wore my new "superhero" jacket (as my husband likes to laughingly call it). It has holes for the thumbs so your hands are covered, and has a spot on your back for your MP3 player. It fits like a glove, but it is SO nice!! I LOVE it. The run felt great, and I did the run a few seconds over 32 minutes.

Spinning? Not as much fun today. I tend to enjoy it when I have more energy. I will plan on running either after spinning from now on or later in the day. I actually was planning on running after my WW weigh-in with the running group I joined, but I'll get to that later.

My neighbors across the street moved out a while ago and have yet to sell their house. They asked a favor, to mow their front lawn. So, that is my job for my 1/2 hour lunch break. BTW, the grass looks like it has not been cut in a LONG time. It will be interesting!

Weight Watchers...I have to weigh-in by 5:15 (when the meeting starts), but I work until 5 and have to bring my daughter to my mom's house (which is out of the way). Interesting...

Still want to run after the WW meeting, but that would definitely be too much...will be dropping by, though, to pay for the July 4th 5K I am doing.

So, here's the crazy part. I have tickets with 2 friends to see Twilight Saga: Eclipse tonight (it's opening night). Time of the movie? MIDNIGHT. Yes, Midnight. So, I'll be going to bed at approximately 3 a.m. after getting up at 4:30 a.m. and tomorrow I have to be up at 5 a.m. to go to my spinning class.

My brain must have gone out the window when buying those tickets!!! But, I am such a Twi-Hard it isn't even funny... OH, well, the price is worth paying emoticon

So I take it you are beginning half-marathon training in 2 days? Awesome! I'm doing my first half-marathon in December, and am getting totally psyched, now that I am picking up my mileage. Good luck and have fun at the movie tonight...I am a HUGE Twilight fan myself!
