Why Does Exercise Give Me Confidence?

I was pondering this on my walk this morning, and here's what I came up with:

Because I'm doing it 6 days a week, which I never would have thought I could do.

Because I get up crazy early to do it, another thing I wouldn't have thought I was capable of.

Because now I don't feel like an idiot huffing up stairs, since I'm getting more fit.

Because when people ask me how I fit it in and I say I get up at 5:45 and just do it, they say "WOW."

Because on days like today, when I'm already tired 10 minutes into my walk, I have the determination to push on through and finish.

    this was great! so true about exercise given us that confidence and satisfaction--now i got to get to the same place with the disorder in my other parts of my life!

Resos Going Into March

The list is getting longer! But it still feels manageable.

1. EXERCISE 6 DAYS A WEEK. A+

2. WORK ON PORTION CONTROL. D

3. KEEP UP THE WATER INTAKE. B+

4. DON'T BEAT MYSELF UP IF I FALL OFF THE WAGON. B

5. RECORD EVERYTHING I EAT ON THE FOOD TRACKER AT LEAST ONE DAY A WEEK. Oops, forgot that one this week! C

6. ATTITUDE - i.e., don't let lack of weight loss get me down. B

7. INCREASE "NON-EXERCISE" ACTIVITY (i.e., stairs, etc.). B

8. STRENGTH TRAINING ONCE A WEEK - Alternate between yoga and weights. A+

9. IF DRINKING WINE, STOP AT ONE GLASS. A

10. DON'T LOOK FOR APPRECIATION OR PRAISE. B+

11. SCHEDULE AT LEAST TWO PROFESSIONAL LUNCHES OR COFFEES PER MONTH. B

12. THINK TWICE BEFORE MAKING A NASTY OR JUDGEMENTAL COMMENT - then don't do it. A-

13. New for March - DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING ON MY TO-DO LIST FOR MORE THAN 2 WEEKS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. This was actually one of my original New Years resos, and I"m kicking a-- on it. Feels so good! A+

14. MAKE GIRLFRIEND TIME. B+

15. MAKE "US" TIME FOR ME AND PAUL. B+

16. AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH, DO SOMETHING SPONTANEOUS. Did this yesterday - had my stylist put blond streaks in my hair, and I love it! A


  


Cross Another One Off the List

I have walked when it's down in the 30s, I've walked when it's sprinkling, and I've walked when the fog is so heavy that my bangs were dripping when I got home. Today when I started out it was misting lightly, so I figured no problem. Well, 10 minutes in, it really started dumping! Shower didn't last long, and I didn't melt. So cross one more excuse off the list - I CAN walk when it's raining.

    i love this!...so true!....i have a brother who complains about exercising when it rains--i just tell him "it's just water?!?".....what is wrong with water?....it's not like it's raining acid?

The Water Revelation

So, I've been working very hard the past couple months to really increase my water intake. I am sitting at my computer all day long most days, so it's easy. It has really been working well - I've been snacking much less.

Well, the last day or so, I've just been feeling hungry all the time. I couldn't figure out why, but it suddenly hit me this morning - yesterday and the day before I was sitting in commission meetings for hours at a time, and not drinking water! Which tells me that the water really is making a difference. Guess I've got to make sure I bring a bottle of water with me when I'm going to be sitting in a meeting for half a day.

    i make my kiddos drink one bottle of water a day.....when they come home cranky from school, all i have to do is look in the backpack and anticipate that they have not drinken their water, and voila! water bottle full-'s cranky child.....and i am not asking them to drink tons, just a small bottle...

Checking in on Goals

Status report on my 2010 goals, which I added to in early February:

1. AIM FOR 7 DAYS A WEEK OF EXERCISE. I'm making 6 every week, so I think for March I will revise this to 6 as a more realistic goal.

2. REALLY WORK ON PORTION CONTROL. Still struggling with.

3. KEEP UP THE WATER INTAKE. Doing well on this one.

4. DON'T BEAT MYSELF UP IF I FALL OFF THE WAGON. Doing fine on this one.

5. RECORD EVERYTHING I EAT ON THE FOOD TRACKER AT LEAST ONE DAY A WEEK. Doing fine on this one.

6. ATTITUDE. Doing okay on this one, though I still am frustrated at not losing weight!

7. INCREASE "NON-EXERCISE" ACTIVITY (i.e., stairs, etc.). Doing fine on this one.

8. YOGA AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH. Doing well on this one - I'm doing either weights or yoga once a week.

9. WEIGHTS AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH. See above. (guess I could combine these two).

10. IF DRINKING WINE, STOP AT ONE GLASS. Doing well on this one.

11. DON'T LOOK FOR APPRECIATION OR PRAISE. Doing well on this one.

12. SCHEDULE AT LEAST TWO PROFESSIONAL LUNCHES OR COFFEES PER MONTH. I've done one, guess I'd better get on the stick because Feb is almost over!

13. THINK TWICE BEFORE MAKING A NASTY OR JUDGEMENTAL COMMENT - then don't do it. Doing well on this one.
