I am trying to make myself accountable for continuing by weight loss by posting this for the world to see.
In December 2009, I decided to lose weight so that I could be in healthy weight range once more. I started out at 228, and by July 2010 I had reached about 185. In July, things got busy with work and I let the diet fall by the wayside. I stopped tracking and stopped working out. But I didn't let myself fall into my old denial trap... I still weighed myself once a week or so, and maintained by weight between roughly 180 - 185 or so for 6 months. That includes the holiday season, so I suppose that is an accomplishment on its own!
In November 2010, I started going to the gym religiously 4-5 times a week. Well, that burned out after a month and now I am locked into an annual contract at the gym. I haven't set foot in the gym since early December. I need to get myself motivated again to start on this weight loss journey once more.
I still have 35 pounds to lose before I can get into a healthy weight range. I would also like to improve my cardiovascular fitness. My problem in the past has been that when I am working out, I overtax myself which leads to eating too much, then burning out after a few weeks. I don't tend to lose weight when I am focused on exercise. I would like to find a balance between diet and exercise so that I can lose weight and improve my fitness level at the same time. I am considering training for a sprint triathlon, but that has a high probability of leading towards overtraining for 3 weeks, then giving up.
Maybe these would be some good goals that would lead towards the fitness level needed for a sprint triathlon:
Start by building up to:
30 minutes swimming
45 minute spin classes to build up quads
strength training for legs to build up for running
start tracking fitness, stay within calories and hit minimum for protein
Okay, I will try to keep up with this journey by blogging. Wish me luck!
