Love or Hate? It's the festive season!

Thursday, November 21, 2013

Ugh! I both love and hate being a woman! There are just so many good deals come Christmas season! Everything seems to be on sale! Everything from jewellery, fragrances, cosmetics, clothes, hair accessories, you name it!!!!

So far, I've spend a few hundred ringgit! But the deals keep popping up. It takes willpower not to spend more! But I'm going to be strong!!! No more major purchases till next year during this time of the year. Then the struggle will begin again!!!! Sigh!

I'm not really "into" all the clothes and girlie stuff. I think having had a family and having to make choices about purchases that were for the family may make a difference. When you only have "you" to worry about I'm sure it's harder to hold back. Or maybe it's just personality. I guess I never really was all the much into clothes, etc. I generally wait until the day after Christmas, go and buy my perfume at half off, and I'm a happy camper. LOL. Otherwise I just go the the thrift shop and buy whatever at great prices.
But you can follow the other advice, it's very good. Weigh if you really need it. Carry it around with you as you shop and keep asking yourself how much do I really need this? Or do I have something at home that works just fine and I really don't need this. That's what I did when my children were very small and I was learning to handle my $. I almost always put the item back! It's the impulse stuff that will get you!

Hey Elaine, hope you had a lovely week! I don't think I mentioned that I have an Aunt from Malaysia. My Uncle married into a nice family!

Anyhow, I'm not much of a shopper for the most part. Before I make a purchase I decide if I can live with the price I paid for an item and will I use all of the item. If its just an impulse purchase I put it back. Earlier this week, I did my hair (a trim and a colour) afterwards my Mom and I shopped and I was considering getting a lovely melon sweater but eventually I put it back after thinking about it some. I knew the material would bother me even if it was a very complimentary colour to my pale skin tone. I purchased a pair of good slippers and 2 pair of sleep pants that I needed instead. The time before hand I bought two long sleeves shirts I needed since its the colder time of year now and they were a very good price!

Its true at certain times of the year, especially now deals are pretty good. However, ask yourself do I really need this item? If so will you get enough use from it to justify the cost? If it is a want and you can afford it, will it flatter you or do you just want it just to buy something? If maybe you can limit yourself to smaller purchases then maybe you will be more satisfied and happy with what you have maybe? Just suggestions to help you for your shopping expeditions in the future. I know you'll be fine. Every other season I pick up a new accessory, dress or blouse and freshen my look some. Most people think you bought a new wardrobe. Just looking your best usually does the trick (having your hair and makeup done.)

About 5 years ago we decided not to buy anything we couldn't pay for outside of a vehicles. It is nice to live this way. Granted there are times we go without something we might have liked or not do certain things, but not having to worry about bills is better. Now our biggest debt is from medical bills, our vehicle, and property taxes.

Hang in there and you'll find you like life a lot better not buying a bunch of stuff because it was a good deal rather than you having a need for it. It helps you to be more creative and you'll find you enjoying doing things you never had to do before!

A question of budget! (makeup choices!)

Saturday, November 16, 2013

I'm so happy now! In fact, I'm thrilled because I just bought a Laneige makeup set! Laneige is from Korea. It consists of 3 mini lipsticks, and 4 shimmery eyeshadows. I decided to buy this set because I loved the colors. The lipsticks are pinkish (3 different shades) and I think would go well with my complexion. I'm Chinese and have a kinda medium tone skin. I'm not too dark but I'm not really fair either. I suppose you could call me medium fair; but not dark enough to be olive.

This set set is only available during this Christmas season and already the one I bought is the 2nd last set! The salesgirl told me that these Christmas sets sell very fast and they have very limited stocks! Already this is the first day of the Christmas sales but the sets have already started selling before the official start of the Christmas sales. I'm glad that I booked my set the moment I saw the catalog ads!!!!

Well, that's Laneige! I saw another offer from Estee Lauder. You only get to purchase this set only if you buy something else (purchase with purchase). This set is more value for money, I suppose (8 matte eyeshadows, one full sized lipstick, one lip pencil, and a few other things); but you can only purchase this set for an additional RM120 only if you spend like RM200+ first on something else. So, in total, you will have to spend at least RM300! I can't justify spending that much money on vanity items! LOL! But my Laneige set only cost me RM120 only without other conditions and I got some free samples for the BB cushion foundation as well; as well as small bottles of the toner and moisturiser (one each).

I suppose the Estee Lauder offer was more value for money. But I prefer the Laneige colors better. And with the Estee Lauder package, you will need to spend like 3 times more (because if I pick the Estee Lauder offer, I will most probably buy a bottle of perfume for like RM300 plus!!!! And then get the makeup set for an ADDITIONAL RM120!!! Yikes!!!! I don't have that much cash!). So, I'll just content myself with my little Laneige Winter Wonderland Makeup Palette!!!!

Whew!!!! It's tough being a woman, isn't it!!!!???

    Hey Elaine
Glad to see you thought out your makeup purchase and you are happy with what your bought. I don't buy expensive makeup sets but this past year I bought a neutral makeup palate in lip shades (a 4 pack of browns) and an eye shadow pack (18 shades of browns, gold, rust) Together both sets cost me $25 USD. I need to get myself a good set of Makeup brushes though soon! I like makeup very simple and easy to deal with. I am a ginger with my red hair and green eyes (I look somewhat similar to the actress Julianne Moore if you know of her.)

I don't bite with offers of makeup that you need to buy other things to get something you really wanted instead. I find that fairly dishonest in some way deep in my heart. Enjoy the makeup~ emoticon

It sounds like you made the right choice as you'd of spent double or triple the money if you had to buy purchase to purchase... Enjoy your new set, it's tough to be a woman sometimes but it can be fun too! emoticon

Shoulders aching because of Pilates workout yesterday evening!

Sunday, November 10, 2013

I woke up with aching shoulders this morning because of the 40 minute Pilates workout yesterday evening (Saturday). I think I'll just walk today to get my cardio in. I don't think I can do another pushup today, my arms are aching so bad.......sigh!

I barely made it to church this morning because my bed felt so comfortable!!! LOL!!! I was thinking : "Maybe I'll skip church today because I want to sleep in!"; but my better half won, and I forced myself up to get ready for church. I barely made it, I was like 5 minutes late and missed the first half of the first worship song!

But at least I listened the the sermon today. Does your mind wander during each sermon? Mine does and I have to force my mind back to concentrate on the sermon! I even struggle to do my daily quiet time with the Lord. I also sometimes forget to say grace before meals, but I am getting better at it though...........

A Belated Bday Surprise!!!!

Saturday, November 02, 2013

I went for dialysis as usual this Friday. I really didn't expect it. At around 5pm, when I had like 30 minutes of treatment more to go, the light suddenly went off. I thought that we had a power failure or something.

Suddenly, the nurses started to sing the bday song! My bday was last Thursday actually. But the nurse that bought the cake was on leave till today! It was a becreamed and chocolate flake sprinkle concoction! Honestly, the cake was like one third whipped cream!!!!

I was so naughty, I had 3 helpings of the cake!!! It was delicious!!!! I have a great weakness for cream cakes. That's why I don't have it often!!! Otherwise I'll be a lot fatter than I am now!!! As it is, I already have a pouchy tummy! But you just can't have cake for dinner. I felt like a burger later that night, so my Mom treated me to McD's!

I had a big and tasty burger and a large fries; except that I split the fries with my Mom, who also loves fries. I ordered a small coffee for her but they got the order wrong, and my Mom had 12oz coffee instead (the big one). Because I ordered the large McValue meal, I opted for a large orange juice instead of a large coke. I only drank one third of it and gave the rest to my brother, who had just finished his shift! He must have been thirsty because he took like less than 5 minutes to finish the entire cup (or rather 2 thirds of a cup!).

I brought the remains of the cake home yesterday but since my brother didn't want it, I finished it this afternoon. I had a very good sleep! I woke up around 2pm today!!!! I'm usually extra tired on a Friday, being the 3rd and last treatment of the week and all!

It was such a nice surprise!!! I thought they had forgotten my bday but they didn't!!!! It's so nice to be thought of!!!!

My Treat! or Rather, Treats!!!

Thursday, October 31, 2013

I spent the day at the mall today and spent a little more than a hundred ringgit. Actually, I spent a little more than RM120, that's about USD40. I bought some moisturizer for RM24.50, 2 pairs of low rise panties for RM39, a pair of lovely earrings for RM32.40 (10% off for members, thank God I remembered my member card!), and RM19.80 for 230 grams of Famous Amos Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies!

I only got the cookies because the salesgirl was so nice to me! She let me try 3 variants without charge. In other words, she gave me 3 cookies on the house! I felt bad not buying anything. As 100 grams was not enough if I wanted to share them with my family, I decided to buy 200 grams, and I even got an extra 30 grams just because it was a Thursday. Apparently, they were having an anniversary promotion! An extra 50 grams on Tuesdays or an extra 30 grams on Thursdays if you buy at least 200 grams!

Imagine, it's not like I bought a truckload of stuff! I mean, I only bought like 4 items and I spent more than RM120! Even if you went grocery shopping here, you can easily spend more than RM200! I shudder to think about parents with little children! No wonder there are so many double income families! You just can't survive on one income in this case!
