Oh Gosh!!!!! My abs need to be stronger!!!!

Tuesday, July 23, 2013

I stopped doing Cassey Ho's workouts ( blogilates.com ) for quite some time (between a few months to a year) because of my osteoporosis. The moves just hurt too much but now I'm recovering after the parathyroid (pt) surgery.

My pt glands had to be removed bcoz they were getting overactive and leeching calcium from my bones, which is why they hurt, especially when I'm doing mat pilates.

Currently, while I can do most of my DVD workouts, I still can't do some of Cassey's exercises! Some of her moves are super hard if you don't have strong abs. I used to have strong abs but after all that bone problems, I'm now trying to work up to my former level of ab fitness!

I was just so surprised today that moves that I could do before, I now have difficulty doing! I'm so frustrated but I know that it won't happen overnight. I just have to work up to it but I guess I'm just impatient! Arrrghhh!!!!

You just have to restart slowly, don't force yourself, getting lots of pain and might get sick again not worth it!

You are right, it will not happy overnight but you can do it. Remember the saying "A year from now, you will wish you had started today."

A year or so ago, I started doing planks every night before bed. At first on my knees for a few seconds, then worked up to getting up on my toes, then worked at holding it for one minute. Now I am working on holding it for two minutes.

It's tough, not sure with your recovery how much you should do now but keep it in mind.

It is amazing what the body can do if you keep at it. However some times we just have to accept what the body has determined it will not do. So you find away around it,
Frustration -
-- just think this gives you a glimpse into the future when age takes away from you all the things we "young" ones take for granted.

- in the mean time do what you can - live your life the best you can.

Back to business on Monday!

Sunday, July 21, 2013

I went to the neighborhood cafe today to do my needlework. Reason being : they have superb air-conditioning there! I got like 3 motifs done and joint to the lace shawl. Crochet is so time-consuming! I wish I could get my lace shawl done soon.

I ordered some lime juice and a single serving of tiramisu; first time I tried it, it was quite good. I've got to watch my diet starting Monday! Sigh! I've been quite naughty this weekend. But I did go for a short walk after eating that tiramisu! Not forgetting the cardio DVD session yesterday. But I was naughty yesterday too! (pls refer to previous blog).

Oh well! Back to business tomorrow!

Tiramisu is good tasting stuff....Good you found a good spot to cool off and do a little crochet on your shawl. BTW, in the Chi Chat thread, I put a link for you for a crochet lace shawl pattern (free). I know you already started a shawl, but I wanted you to see that pattern too. I love crocheting nice things.

Don't worry, you aren't always naughty with the food. I think you do pretty good!! Anyhow, keep working on yourself and your crochet and needlework. Hey how's the cross stitch coming along?? Or is it on the back burner??

Enjoy your week ahead!!!

First I was good, then I was bad! ;)

I did my 30 minute latin dance aerobic workout and worked up some sweat. Then I went for Bible study today. As you know, it's the fasting month (ramadhan) for the muslims and they sell all kinds of yummy goodies everywhere in the evening for the muslims to buy to break their fast. Well, not all the customers are fasting muslims, a lot of non-muslims also take the opportunity to buy those goodies! (including yours truly!).

I bought curry puffs, fried spring rolls served with chilli sauce and some little savory cakes! Yummm! The curry puffs were fried, and the spring rolls were practically dripping with oil but I just could resist! Well, the portions were small but still!

I bet I cancelled out to good I did with that latin dance workout! Oh why do the spring rolls have to be sooo delicious!?

Hehe, yeah, same here, some of the customers at bazaar are non-muslim, I guess it's win-win for everyone during Ramadhan :D

That latin workout sounds fun! Do you do some salsa or something like that?

Think of working out as a way to incorporate the occasional treat like curry puffs & spring rolls in your diet without having them interfere too much with your goals. Echoing WILDKAT781, as long as you're not eating like this every day, you'll be fine!

Yay! I'm not as unfit as I thought!

Saturday, July 13, 2013

I haven't been doing my usual Pilates workouts ever since I got osteoporosis. But now, I'm slowly getting better and have started doing gentler workouts. Today, I did a 30 minute Pilates DVD workout and I could do all the reps! The only thing I had trouble with were the push-ups and they're not ordinary push-ups, much harder but then I've always had trouble with push-ups!

So, I wasn't as unfit as I thought. But I still can't do some of Cassie's workouts ( blogilates.com ), but I'm working up to it! I hope the aches and pains in my joints goes away soon though!

How about including jalepenos in your foods? The capsacin helps with arthritis, so I think that it would also help osteoperosis. Have you done much study on specific diets that help or hinder osteoperosis?

Sweet Potatoes and Cherries!

Thursday, July 11, 2013

I just came back from a local night market (I live in Malaysia). I managed to get 2 nice small sweet potatoes to steam for my snack tomorrow. It only cost me RM1.50!

Then I managed to get a few cherries (about a standard small punnet) for RM5. Cherries are expensive here because they are air flown from the US.

Altogether, it cost me RM6.50, that like USD2 plus, I guess.

Sometimes, I wish I could go to the US during cherry season and gorge myself! I've heard they were cheap in the US, which part tho?

Cherries are not cheap in New England either. We used to have a neighbor with 2 large cherry trees in her yard and let us pick till are hearts were content. Used to make jam and pies and anything I could put them in.

Thanks for the blog a good one Deni emoticon

Sweet cherries here in CA were 2.99 a lb and ranier cherries are 5.99 a lb, but that was a sale price. They're normally a dollar or two more.
Regardless, I love cherries too and eat them all the time they are in season. emoticon

Cherries aren't cheap in the state I live in. In my opinion, things aren't cheap anymore be it here or there.

Lots of cherries are grown in Washington state, but I haven't noticed that they're cheap unless you buy boxes of them to earn a quantity discount.

I love cherries (and sweet potatoes too) but they are not very cheap here in the Midwest USA. At least the dark sweet cherries aren't. We grow the tart cherries which are great for baking but not so much for snacking.
