Bad news from the Doctor!

Tuesday, July 02, 2013

Even though I see her regularly for a different problem, I just mentioned it to her anyway. I was complaining about my osteoporosis to her. And she said that bone loss was irreversible, it could only be halted to prevent further loss.

So, that will probably mean that I have to go downstairs one step at a time like an old woman and I can't do any high impact cardio anymore! Just low impact cardio!

I'm so disappointed! I thought that after taking all that calcium and all that activated Vitamin D, I will get my strength and stamina back, but she said that bone loss was irreversible!

Excuse me, I think I'll go to my bed and cry now.............

Elaine, at the time I commented on this blog, I couldn't find the email that had the link to the website that is all about bones. There is a lot of good information on the site. Yes they do sell supplements, but they are basically magnesium, calcium, vitamin D3, Vitamin C etc. Anyhow check it out when you have the time. I have been reading a lot of the articles on it.

CNN: What should you do if you have osteoporosis? Is it reversible?

COSMAN: Osteoporosis is not totally reversible, but it is very definitely treatable. Everybody who has osteoporosis should follow the universal prevention measures. These include optimizing nutrition, exercising, and making sure that no adverse lifestyle factors are present, such as smoking. But also, people with osteoporosis should strongly consider taking one of a variety of medications that are available to treat the condition. These include estrogens or hormones, raloxifene (also called EVISTA®), calcitonin, alendronate (also called Fosamax®), and risedronate (or Actonel®).

Notice Ms. Cosman said not totally reversible. So there is treatment, and the statement tells me that it is partialy reversible. That would include stopping the process so your bones don't weaken further. Exercise is also recommended, especially weight bearing. So continue taking your calcium and D3, and exercising. Within your limits. Don't give up.
See a different doctor, for another opinion.

There are many miracle drugs, programs out there that can help you regain your strength. Keep your chin up, and power on. I have had painful knees for years, gave up wheat 8 weeks ago, and the knees now feel great! On top of that spring allergies are gone also. YEAH! Keep looking for your miracle it is out there, you just need to find it. hugs! emoticon

Keep that chin up girl. Go get that second opinion, keep doing the best you can for your body whatever that may be and take good care of your spirit too.

I know a God who can do miracles- and I think- from reading your past blogs- you know Him too. You just keep on being positive and don't let those negative answers discourage you. I know someone who had a miracle so powerful that he had bone regrow back into place- without any kind of medication or medical treatment. So, keep plugging away. Keep doing your part and the God of miracles will do the rest! I'll start praying for your miraclulous healing- I know He can!

You may not be able to regrow bone mass, but you can strengthen what you have. There is hope! Strength training and light impact cardio can strengthen bones and that will help with your arthritis!

I would seek out a second opinion - I don't think your doctor is correct. I think there are things you can do to build up your bone strength. Don't give up!

I'm going to add to the crowd behind you pushing you to get a second opinion and do not give up.

Keep taking your vitamin D and calcium and find some activity to keep you moving. Work on strength training, strong muscles help your bones.

Eowyn, that's NOT true !

My aunt is 86 years old and she's been taking a drug that has not only helped stop her osteoporosis, it's helped improve her bone strength !! My aunty had a bad fall a couple of years ago that caused her to break her hip. When I saw her, I was shocked at how frail she'd become. She'd always been healthy and there she was in a wheelchair. Fast forward one year when I went to visit her again. Regular physical therapy and exercise HELPED her enormously. While she did have to use a walker, she looked fantastic. Her strength and energy had returned. Today ? She is 86 years old, but like I said, she stays active and she's been taking that drug.

There are several drugs in the US that can treat osteoporosis !! You will not end up like an invalid if you continue to exercise !!

This is the truth. I have a couple of other older relatives who have peri osteoporosis and they are taking medication that has helped significantly.

So, don't despair !!

Sorry that you received bad news from the doctor. Don't allow it to discourage you too much though. Taking all of that calcium and vitamin D wasn't for nothing. You still have strong & healthy bones too and those bones need to be taken care of too! I understand it is still difficult news and I am sorry you are struggling with Osteoporosis but keep practicing healthy habits. The rest of your body is counting on you! :)

Haze is now disappearing! Thank God!

Sunday, June 30, 2013

But it's a yearly affair. The forests of Indonesia is cleared yearly without fail by poor farmers who know no other way than clearing a patch of forest and farming. This problem will happen yearly as long as there are poor Indonesian farmers and there are millions of them.

I wonder how we can solve this problem..............

Sad ending for my fave Korean Drama!!!!

Thursday, June 27, 2013

Oh gosh! I'm still soooo sad! But I won't reveal the ending in respect of those people who are still watching the drama. But it's so unfair! I thought love conquers all. Apparently, love is not enough in the old royal Korean palace!

I saw the rest of the episodes online. Now I wish I haven't. I spent 2 days stuck in front of the computer watching it all! I even forwent my exercise sessions just so I can finish watching this drama! Sob!

Well, now that I've seen the ending, I can carry on exercising this weekend.

Did some Pilates today!

Saturday, June 22, 2013

But I only managed like 22 minutes. I get my workouts here : blogilates.com

Most of her workouts are very tiring! She really works you! I actually wanted to do 40 minutes. But my body is already aching. I felt like I really worked hard, even though I could only do like 80% of the reps. I didn't sweat much bcoz I'm in an air-conditioned room. The haze is getting worse these days!

I will see if I can do a DVD workout tomorrow!

Walked for an hour today....

Thursday, June 20, 2013

but not much sweating! The workout has to be extremely vigorous to get me sweating. I just don't sweat easily. Don't know why. I honestly wanted to do a DVD but my Mom was home and she wanted the TV. She normally leaves me to do my thing but today she was home and wanted the TV. I'm supposed to do more cardio, so I decided on a long walk. I got to visit Max, a 4 legged friend, a golden retriever, he's just so lonely, he just sits there longing for someone to pet him! If I were his mistress, I'll be playing with him all the time! His master also plays with him but only when he's free and he's just so busy with work, that's the problem. Goldens need a lot of attention.

I also has a nice chat with one of my neighbors. Came home very late though, a little after 9pm. My dad got so worried, he even called my mobile! Gotta organize myself and really discipline myself to just do my DVD workouts! Or I'll never do it! Especially with such hot weather, you just want to chill in an air-conditioned comfort!

I enjoyed reading your blog. Especially when you talked about your neighbors, Golden Reteriever. They are such wonderful dogs and yes they do need regular exercise. I think it would be wonderful if you could take him/her for a 10-15 walk a couple times per week. So great for the dog and maybe good energy for you too. emoticon
I think you still get the benefits from exercise whether or not you sweat.

I don't like the hot weather. I much prefer the A/C. Wishing you great emoticon results.

Not everyone breaks out in sweat when exercising, even at a high intensity. Some people are wired different from others. I am a good example.

We have something in common as I do not sweat easily too. Is it safe in your neighborhood to be walking so late all by yourself? Me, too - I just want to chill in an a/c room!

Take care & have another wonderful day! emoticon
