Do you procrastinate when it comes to needlework?

Monday, August 20, 2012

I know I do. Sometimes, you just don't feel like doing it. Sometimes, you just feel lazy. Other times, it seems you can just go on and on doing it. All I know is, I'd better hurry with my shawl because I can't wait to wear it in church. I can't wait for ppl to ask me where I bought it! I'll just smile and say : "I made it myself!" and wait for the Wows! Hehe!

Oh yeah! I'm a knitter and find when I come to a more complex spot in the knitting I'll often set it aside for a while. It's like I want to find the perfect time to have to really 'think' about what I'm doing. LOL

Please let us know when you finish

I have a shirt sitting on a shelf half-finished. Mostly because I'm too lazy/self-conscious to finish it by hand because the seams won't be straight, but sewing machines hate me *sigh*

Good luck with yours!

Are you able to do needlework when you are in dialysis? You should set up a business and sell your stuff- this way you can earn some extra cash to buy the things you want, plus you are doing something you love (if you like doing needlework).
There are sites like Etsy- where you can sell any handmade item for whatever price- and you can charge the buyer shipping if you ship world wide!

If I see needlework coming my way, I run the opposite direction! :) I keep hoping I'll grow to like it. :/

It's hard to spend wisely sometimes!

Sunday, August 19, 2012

If I had a credit card, I would probably be deeply in debt now. This is because of all the enticing things sold online and because of how easy it is to spend money online if you have a credit card. I just came across a website selling exquisite handmade jewellery made out of polymer clay. They feature stuff like canteloupe, coconutes, avocados, bananas, etc. in miniature sizes. The come in earrings and necklaces. But when I saw the prices, I nearly fainted! What?! USD16-25 for those little things?!

It may not seem like a lot to Americans but with the current exchange rate, that's still too pricey for me. Also, I can get polymer clay earrings for so much less in Malaysia. Maybe not as attractive and exquisite. But you can't beat the price : RM10 (USD3.20) for 3 pairs of earrings; RM19.90 (USD6.35) for a bracelet; etc.

But, still, I get very tempted! It's a good thing that I DON'T have a credit card!

if the little' bell' goes off in your head - that is warning you to 'stop and stay away'.
money is precious - but many people don't think of it that way. it is only a means to an end - a house, a car, etc. but if you fritter it away - here there and everywhere - you find yourself kicking you in the end - cause you have very little to show for what you have spent - just stuff - mostly junk.
there is nothing wrong with buying something that is of good quality - but look at it like an investment - first does it pay off in pleasure and use ability for you? and will it be worth anything or just something collecting dust in a drawer.
whether you have $25.00 or $25,000. to spend - it is all relative. be wise, be careful and you will be happy later on.!

I agree, it's better to pay cash. Unforuately when you travel you have no choice but to have a card as all the hotels and car rentals want one. When they numbers are stolen then it's a real hassle to replace the card as well.

Getting heavily into debt with a credit card is classic American behavior! Be glad you don't have a credit card. I spent $250,000 (american dollars) with credit cards about 10 years ago if you can believe that! It's true - had to file bankruptcy and everything. Gesh! If you want a card to buy things online (I doubt you do) you can get a paypal account (probably not a good idea) and I think they have a credit card too that you can get for if the site you are on does not take paypal. Or get a prepaid debit card. Again, these are probably bad ideas.

If you can't trust yourself with credit card, don't own one at all!

Or if you really need to have one (online shopping, hotel payment, etc etc), some tips:
DON'T max out your credit
DON'T ever think to increase your limit
DO make sure you pay whole statement by end of month!

And what I love to do, I have this spreadsheet to calculate how much I can spend and still can keep my monthly saving in Tabung Haji (for long term) :D

Having a bacon sandwich right now.......

Saturday, August 18, 2012

Well, I'm a Christian but I'm living with a Buddhist family. And we're Chinese, which means we observe certain rites and rituals. I mean, my family does, not me. But I'm affected as well. Today is a full moon day (I'm not even sure what that means) but we're going vegetarian today. I don't object as I sometimes go vegetarian on purpose too, for my health.

I had vegetarian rice vermicilli for lunch (I woke up at 1pm today because I was tired out from dialysis on Friday) and I had rice with vegetarian dishes for dinner. I made myself a bacon sandwich because 1) I didn't reach my quota of calories and 2) because I really wanted a bacon sandwich.

Well, I've eaten the sandwich and I don't feel hungry anymore. My stomach was grumbling just now, before I made the sandwich. I also had 2 little cocktail sausages. I can't eat like this all the time though. I have to watch my protein levels too, among other things.

But still, I'm glad I didn't go over. My tightest shorts are getting tight. Better cut the midnight munchies............

It's good to make sure what you eat and look after yourself. It's hard to honour your family when it doesm't comprise your personal beliefs. I knew several Chinese Christians so know that it can be hard to balance things.

I think I definitely overate yesterday but it was soooo delish!!!!

Friday, August 17, 2012

I ordered the celery beef set at a Vietnamese restaurant yesterday. I was spending some quality time with my Mom but I had to pay for my own meal. My Mom also ordered a serving of beef salad which came with lots of very thin carrot slices and chopped bird's eye chillies. She also ordered a serving of vegetarian noodles.

We both came away from the restaurant very full! lol! But we didn't clean our plates. The celery beef was already plenty of protein so I didn't eat my fried egg. I really like the spring roll that came with the set but the skin was a little tough. I also didn't finish my chicken soup because it was tasteless.

But the celery beef was absolutely delish! A little oily but delish! The beef salad was nice too but a little on the sweet side.

Strangely, later that night, I got hungry again and had a light snack. I think I definitely overate yesterday.........

I love Vietnamese food too! I think you did not overeat because Vietnamese food usually comes with lots of vegetables in it. Yes, it has protein too. If you did not eat too much of the noodles or rice, I do not think you ate too much.

I think I may really have pulled something!

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

My thighs still ache quite bad when I go in and out of the car. My left shoulder aches too and I can hardly reach my right shoulder when taking a shower. I've decided to really cut back on the challenging Pilates workouts and just stick to gentle walks till I recover. I think I'll be taking a break of a week or two.

I hope my muscles will recover by then!
