I wish I lived in a 'craftier' country!

Sunday, August 12, 2012

I was thinking of buying this beautiful ribbon embriodery pattern book but I've now decided against it because of the limited colours available here. Only one shop I know of sells the materials and she only has a few colours.

I was thinking how nice it would be to live in a place like London or somewhere in the US where these crafts are more popular and I'll no difficulty sourcing for materials.

I did buy a bullion embriodery book some time ago. Again, the needles are very hard to come by but the thread, no problem. So far, I've broken a few needles sewing, that's why I haven't done any bullion embriodery yet, for fear of breaking my needles. I have 2 longer needles for more strands and 2 shorter ones for less strands, that's all, but even the shorter bullion needles are longer than the average cross-stitch needles.

I'll have to find a new source of bullion needles before I start anything. In case I break any more needles! At the moment I'm crocheting a lacy shawl. So far I've done just 3 motifs. I just love needlework! I'm also planning to learn how to knit, but the needles are v. costly! Oh well, one thing at a time!

I like the end products but me doing them, I don't think I have patience to do the sewing, the bunching-cloth-technique-for-dresse
s (smocking, i think) or those tricky thing you can do with special needles and threads.

I think we can get lots of books on how-to here in Malaysia but getting the materials is hard, even harder at my place!

Perhaps you can do needlework more while on rest from exercises, just to make your mind off from not able to do workouts :D

I agree w/ COUPONS comment below about having your supplies special ordered. Or else go onli8ne. Why deny yourself the pleasure of crafting achievements when the supplies can be made available to you? Where there's a will, there's a way! emoticon

I'm lucky that we have a few places to get supplies. I haven't done that kind of work for a long time kind a wish I could get back to it. You can find in the book a maile order supply or go on line and order your suppies. good luck and the shaw sounds pretty! Lucinda

*hugs* I love doing crafty stuff like that, but I never get the time to do it. Maybe ask one of your friends in the US to buy you stuff and send them to you? I think as long as you pay them, one of your friends here would do that for you. Just a thought.

Have you spoke with the shop owner that stocks some of the items you use? Perhaps if you tell her/him what you need she/he could add your items to the next order, that way they wouldn't order things that sat in the shop, would help with their order minimums and keep a customer happy, plus make a guaranteed sale.

Big hugs

OH! My Body aches!

Saturday, August 11, 2012

I suspect it's my joints : that is my bones themselves! I couldn't do as much Pilates as I would have liked today. I did 15 minutes but had to stop! I ache so bad! I couldn't even manage some of the moves. I think I'll take a break today. I wanted to do some cardio but the weather was just soooo hot! It was boiling! I had to hide in my air-conditioned room! I watched some Korean drama online instead, and before I knew it, it was dark out.

I'll see of I can do some cardio tomorrow!

That's good, take a rest instead of continue pushing yourself while still in pain. Don't exert yourself too much or the situation might get worst!

When you are in alot of pain it's good to rest for awhile and heal. When you push yourself in exercise there might be a little pain not severe though it's good you rested. Lucinda

Hot days are here again!

Thursday, August 09, 2012

A couple of weeks ago, it was quite rainy here in PJ, Selangor, Malaysia! I was beginning to enjoy the cloudy and breezy evenings and even afternoons occasionally, when the sun would be hiding; but it was too good too last...........sigh!

This week, the heat wave is back again! There have been more and more heat waves now that with the depleting rain forests all in the name of timber and development! I hope they start to realize what this greed is doing to our country and even the world! Rain forests are important to in supplying oxygen for our world too!

A little treat just for me!

Tuesday, August 07, 2012

I went to the mall today but I didn't manage to buy the ribbon embroidery book I wanted because the shop was closed today for some reason! Not to be deterred, I told myself I was going to have good time anyway.

I bought a hardcover book for a good price (they only sell overprints). It's a book of short stories on Dragons called appropriately : The Dragon Book! LOL! I also bought 2 beautiful hair clips in pastel colours! Mint green and baby pink! I'm so happy with them. I don't care if I have a drawer-full of hair accessories, every girl needs new hair clips (or stuff) now and then.

I also bought some moon cakes for my family! AND I get to keep the box and bag! ;)

Oh (pls refer to previous blog), I also bought 5 nurses some Hari Raya (a Muslim holiday) presents. They're cute little broaches to pin their head scarves! I got six of them for RM7, good deal, eh?! The extra one goes to another nurse who's not a muslim. I'm giving it to her because I'd probably never wear it. I'm pretty lazy when it comes to broaches!

I also bought myself a grilled chicken wing, I just had it, it was delicious! And for lunch, I ordered a small order of Kimchi (a Korean pickled veggie thing), a small order of white rice and a tall glass of iced green tea. Guess how much lunch cost? ONLY RM6.65! This is my lucky day!

Wow, you got lots of good bargain! There are lots of places in KL where you can get lots of brooches at low price - I admit that the stones can easily fall off but will feel less guilty buy lots of them compare to buy those expensive brooches that we probably afraid of getting stolen, hehe.

Success in cooking brown rice!

Monday, August 06, 2012

The magic formula :

2 cups brown rice to 3 cups water! Just right! Firm enough to have pleasant bite but soft enough to swallow! This is only my 2nd time cooking brown rice! The first time, I put in too much water and it turned out too mushy. Like midway to porridge! Yuck! But still edible though.........

And my Dad actually ate it! Him! Who calls brown rice and whole wheat bread 'grass'! LOL!

LOL I am completely incapable of rice without my rice cooker :) I once cooked brown rice for an hour and the outside was sticky, mushy, and overcooked, and the inside of each grain was hard as a rock. I now ONLY cook rice in the rice cooker :)

I love brown rice. A tip I found that helps is to use the ratio you use, but put the rice in the water and soak it overnight, then cook it. cuts the cooking time in half and it is still a nice texture. This is of course if you're using a pan on the stove. I don't know if it would work in a rice cooker or not.

Brown rice is really tricky. We got a rice cooker from bed bath and beyond and you throw the rice and water in and it cooks it and keeps it warm all day for you . rice comes out perfect every time
