Is it just me?

Sunday, August 05, 2012

I went to church today and those little old ladies just won't leave me alone! They keep asking me the mundanest 'getting to know you' questions! I mean, can't they tell that I was in no mood to talk? Not that I'm being unfriendly or anything, but they were how should I put it : invading my personal space! I just gave short one word answers (so as not to be rude, totally ignoring them would be rude) but they still wouldn't leave me alone. They kept pressing on, asking question after question! Grrrrr!

As one of the biggest talkers I know, have to say: feel free to tell us to back off. I tell all my friends that: if you need space tell me! Even if it's just, "sorry, I'm not feeling well at the moment, I just need some quiet time." That lets the talkers know that you need a bit of space, but doesn't insult them. Everyone needs quiet time sometimes (except me!)

It's not just you! My favorite tactic with that group is to ask THEM a couple of questions followed by a hasty retreat. The questions will divert them from grilling you, show you care because you're interested, and give the church ladies a positive impression even as you turn and walk away!

just grin and bear it...you're in church...but you could say you need some time now to pray or meditate on God

so here I go about to meddle like those ladies, but here goes, anyway....Could it be that some of those older ladies have been praying for many years and get a sense of when someone is hurting? Being mothers and grandmothers, they probably want to help you fix your hurt, and you're such a cutie pie, they may feel a motherly affection for you, or sense you're troubled about something or just all alone and they want to help. Maybe single out one lady that you could be a little friendlier to and say that you could use some prayer or just say "Hello" and ask how she is. You could be pleasantly surprised! Just speaking up for little old Christian ladies is all! LOL 'Cause I am one!! And I might be one of the above. emoticon emoticon

Ever had Moon Cakes?

Saturday, August 04, 2012

I swear, they begin selling them earlier and earlier these days! The actual festival is at the end of September and they're already selling them now in the beginning of August! They come in decorative boxes of 2 or 4 moon cakes each. People normally buy them because they want the boxes! Ha! Ha!

Same here, I'm going to buy 2 moon cakes because I want the box to keep my overflowing bookmark collection! I'm buying one nutty moon cake (for my Dad, it's his fave) and one low-sugar white lotus paste (my fave).

Have they begun selling moon cakes in your part of the world? Btw, it's a Chinese tradition, I've forgotten the story, it's about a moon goddess or something. Maybe you can find out more if you google it! Happy Moon Cake festival!

    Hey Elaine emoticon
White Lotus Paste is also my favorite. I just checked online here. They are taking orders now but only shipping it on August 17, 2012. This is freshly baked in a bakery in New York Chinatown.
I still prefer the ones in Malaysia. Sometimes I get lucky in my area if they bring in good moon cakes imported from either Hong Kong or Malaysia. Chicago Chinatown has good moon cakes too, provided you get the right brand coming from Hong Kong.

Down South they sell moon PIES - but I think you have to be born and raised down here to like the things. I've lived down here almost 40 years and decided I'd prefer to ingest my calories with different stuff.

What's a moon cake anyway?

It's so hard to save money but oh so easy to spend it!

Thursday, August 02, 2012

I accompanied my Mom to the mall today. I didn't bring my handbag on purpose because I knew that I would be tempted to spend money. I actually wanted to buy some fancy bread but my Mom was in a hurry to leave so she could pick my brother from work. If I had brought my own money I would have spent it on fancy bread.

I'm going to see my Doctor tomorrow. That's why I need some spare cash. Also, I need to save some money because I'm going to get gifts for 5 people next week. I won't say anymore because I want it to be a surprise for the 5 people. I'm afraid they might read this blog and it won't be a surprise anymore! I'll post about it after I've given it to them! Promise!

Mystery solved! (but with bad news)

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

The mystery of my aching 'muscles' that I thought was because of over-exercise has been solved. The mystery or my itchy ankles that I thought was because of allergies has the same root cause too!

It turns out that both problems are there because of exceedingly high levels of calcium and phosphate in my blood! The doctor came yesterday and he gave me an appointment to scan my parathoroid glands next month. He suspects that they may be swollen, and that means surgery, to remove them. That's the final solution.

But I have to take expensive meds my whole life if I don't opt for the surgery. Me and my family really can't afford the meds or the surgery. I'm just praying that somehow, God will provide.

Right now it's only speculation about your glands, think positive and pray!!!!!!!!!!!
I really hope that things work out for you, but as a former medical assistant I know that there are a lot of drug companies that have to give out a certain percentage of free meds every year and you should ask about the company that makes the drug (if you do end up needing it). There are a lot of companies that also have applications to see if you qualify for free meds from them or at a reduced rate, ask the doctors office.
Do you research I know I'd be giving applications especially to my elderly patients back in the day and they'd say they never knew they could get the meds for free!
But not every medical assistant was like me, a lot didn't care and wouldn't mention it to the patients, but I always did.
Keep up your chin , your in my prayers! emoticon

So sorry about your diagnosis. Acknowledge and move on from here. emoticon
Perhaps a second opinion is in order, or a less invasive surgery or laser surgery. Maybe something Holistic, if you have the time to pursue that angle or a nutritionist. My GERD is totally under control with the change of diet to the Blood Type diet. Food CAN be medicinal, especially with hormonal or gastro problems. Worth a try. And I'm praying for you. emoticon emoticon There is a team on Spark that may have run into your diagnosis; it's the NATURAL HEALTH USING HERBS, SUPPLEMENTS AND VITAMINS TEAM. Doesn't hurt to go take a look. I know the Lord will help and guide you. God bless.

I am doing through the issues with the parathryoid now Has your doctor run the PTH, vitamin D, and calcium all at the same time. that is going to be something that is needed to make a completely good diagnosis on this.

go to www.parathryoid.com

If you have modules in your parathryoid, go with the minimual invasive surgery which a lot of doctors do. Its over in 20 minutes and they say the results can be felt shortly after. I am looking for a surgeon to remove mine now

Also request an MRI of your pitutary gland since that is the master gland tht controls all the glands. we found I did not have one which is what is why my numbers go all over the charts each month.

Starting on a lacy shawl in crochet!

Sunday, July 29, 2012

I just bought the materials on Thursday afternoon. I chose a simple but pretty pattern. Or at least, it looked simple in the shop. When I got home, I tried to start one motif and was surprised at how difficult it was to create the flower in the middle. I spent almost 2 hours today completing one motif. I will do it bit by bit, motif by motif. It is pretty!

I'll post pics on my sparkpage when I'm done!

Can't wait to see your photos. I have trouble making flowers, too. Even bought a booklet with patterns, but can't figure them out. So if after crocheting over 40 years, i can't read some patterns, please don't feel badly. Just taking it one motif at a time is a good method. One motif, one day at a time. I'm taking my yarn and hook to Weight Watchers next week where one of the gals is going to show me how to make a flower. Sometimes a hands-on demonstration can show you more than a book of pictures, words and sketches. Just don't give up!! emoticon emoticon
