Mystery solved! (but with bad news)

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

The mystery of my aching 'muscles' that I thought was because of over-exercise has been solved. The mystery or my itchy ankles that I thought was because of allergies has the same root cause too!

It turns out that both problems are there because of exceedingly high levels of calcium and phosphate in my blood! The doctor came yesterday and he gave me an appointment to scan my parathoroid glands next month. He suspects that they may be swollen, and that means surgery, to remove them. That's the final solution.

But I have to take expensive meds my whole life if I don't opt for the surgery. Me and my family really can't afford the meds or the surgery. I'm just praying that somehow, God will provide.

Wow and Yikes! So sorry to hear this, though it's good to know what the root cause is. I have had severe itching on my legs for a couple of years, but it's been nothing more than an incredible nuisance. I will keep you in my prayers.....

Right now it's only speculation about your glands, think positive and pray!!!!!!!!!!!
I really hope that things work out for you, but as a former medical assistant I know that there are a lot of drug companies that have to give out a certain percentage of free meds every year and you should ask about the company that makes the drug (if you do end up needing it). There are a lot of companies that also have applications to see if you qualify for free meds from them or at a reduced rate, ask the doctors office.
Do you research I know I'd be giving applications especially to my elderly patients back in the day and they'd say they never knew they could get the meds for free!
But not every medical assistant was like me, a lot didn't care and wouldn't mention it to the patients, but I always did.
Keep up your chin , your in my prayers! emoticon

So sorry about your diagnosis. Acknowledge and move on from here. emoticon
Perhaps a second opinion is in order, or a less invasive surgery or laser surgery. Maybe something Holistic, if you have the time to pursue that angle or a nutritionist. My GERD is totally under control with the change of diet to the Blood Type diet. Food CAN be medicinal, especially with hormonal or gastro problems. Worth a try. And I'm praying for you. emoticon emoticon There is a team on Spark that may have run into your diagnosis; it's the NATURAL HEALTH USING HERBS, SUPPLEMENTS AND VITAMINS TEAM. Doesn't hurt to go take a look. I know the Lord will help and guide you. God bless.

I am doing through the issues with the parathryoid now Has your doctor run the PTH, vitamin D, and calcium all at the same time. that is going to be something that is needed to make a completely good diagnosis on this.

go to www.parathryoid.com

If you have modules in your parathryoid, go with the minimual invasive surgery which a lot of doctors do. Its over in 20 minutes and they say the results can be felt shortly after. I am looking for a surgeon to remove mine now

Also request an MRI of your pitutary gland since that is the master gland tht controls all the glands. we found I did not have one which is what is why my numbers go all over the charts each month.

Starting on a lacy shawl in crochet!

Sunday, July 29, 2012

I just bought the materials on Thursday afternoon. I chose a simple but pretty pattern. Or at least, it looked simple in the shop. When I got home, I tried to start one motif and was surprised at how difficult it was to create the flower in the middle. I spent almost 2 hours today completing one motif. I will do it bit by bit, motif by motif. It is pretty!

I'll post pics on my sparkpage when I'm done!

Can't wait to see your photos. I have trouble making flowers, too. Even bought a booklet with patterns, but can't figure them out. So if after crocheting over 40 years, i can't read some patterns, please don't feel badly. Just taking it one motif at a time is a good method. One motif, one day at a time. I'm taking my yarn and hook to Weight Watchers next week where one of the gals is going to show me how to make a flower. Sometimes a hands-on demonstration can show you more than a book of pictures, words and sketches. Just don't give up!! emoticon emoticon

Easing back into exercise....

Saturday, July 28, 2012

I stopped exercising for 6 days because of DOMS but I've decided to start exercising again. I did 4 minutes of cardio to warm up my muscles then, I did 25 minutes of Pilates. The aching is starting again but I guess I'll just have to push through if I'm serious about the exercise and getting trimmer!

Undecided if I should push through with my exercise.........

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Have you had DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness) that was so bad that you can't even walk up the stairs properly. Well, I've been having very bad DOMS for months now. Ever since I started my Pilates program.

It even hurts to get in and out of a car. My friend told me I should push through with the exercise anyway. Should I? I don't want my muscles to get weaker because they had no chance to recover! I've been resting for 5 days now. But I have been going on gentle walks.

Should I do more Pilates tonight or tomorrow?

Oh, btw, I get my Pilates workouts here : www.blogilates.com

Years ago when Pilates first became popular, a woman I know wound up in the hospital due to those exercises. You may be putting undue strain on your back or spinal nerves. Check out with a chiropractor, or even change to different type exercises. Not every body can handle certain methodologies; everyone's different, but you knew that! Take care. emoticon emoticon

If it is just sore muscles you should take a rest day and then work through it. Have you ever tried a foam roller? They don't feel very nice but are wonderful for working out sore muscles. I would also look into getting some glutamine or a supplements with glutamine and BCAAs which help muscle repair.

EOWYN I have been following your blog for a long time now and it seems like you are always sore. I feel you have to be overdoing it when you exercise. my opinion is that you should do more walking and only exercise say 10 to 15 minutes per session if you decide to exercise. I would only exercise on an every other day basis too. If you are sore, it means you are hurting yourself especially to the degree you describe. You may want to talk to your dr about exercising with your health issues as well as that may be playing a large part in your soreness. emoticon Ruthie

If its really bad - like to the point where I am injured- I would speak my with my doctor. but in general- i will push through the pain..
Maybe try doing some yoga or a nice stretching routine- i usually find that a few minutes of warm up (maybe walking for 5minutes briskly, jogging in place for 30s, some jumping jacks, anything to get your heart rate up and blood going, muscles warm) and then doing some really good stretching will help(holding each poistion for at least 30s).. and then doing your work out - or even going for another 30minute walk and then a REALLY good cool down with long stretching works (holding each poistion for at least 30s) best for me.
usually the next day i feel like a champ.
if you are on day 5 of your muscles being sore, you should see your doctor. DOMS should only last 72 hours max... also try a hot bath after working out...

I think it depends on how bad it is. When it's as bad as you seem to be describing, I usually take a day or two off to recover (this usually happens the first day or two after re-starting an exercise program). If it's mild - like I can still walk right ;), I will usually try to push through. I think you know your body best. Sometimes it's best to rest!

If it's truly DOMS, exercise is usually helpful in temporarily relieving the pain. I almost always exercise through DOMS. If it's an injury, completely different story.

I suppose I have to make an allowance for Tuesdays!

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

I always, always overeat on Tuesdays! Because I have home fellowship on Tuesdays. And today, I went to McDonald's with a friend, that is why my calories are waaaaay up today. I only had an apple pie and medium fries but that is already soooo calorific.

Oh well, I suppose I should make allowance for myself on Tuesdays. I usually overeat my calorie range on Tuesdays...........

I thought I was being good by forgoing dinner today, but that trip to McD's has already almost put me over! Grrrrr!
