A nice day off!

Thursday, June 14, 2012

I took another day off from exercise today. Last night, my left hip kept aching as I turned about on the bed. I dare not exacerbate any possible injury, so I took another day off today. My Mom took me to a new mall today. I bought some yummy snacks and a new hair accessory. I really love my new hair accessory. But I have to wait till my hair grows longer to use it. It's a chignon decorative clip. I will post pics of it on my sparkpage when I can finally wear it!

As for the snacks, they were chickadees (a Malaysian snack food) and muruku (an Indian snack food). Today was really hot as well! I do hope this heatwave lets up!

Waaaaay too hot to exercise!

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

I managed to do only the warmup part of the dance DVD today but felt the heat so much, I had to stop. If I had exercised with the air-conditioner on, I might get sick because to the temp change. Also, my hips are still aching, so I think I'll rest one more day. Sigh!

I've been having the midnight munchies a few times this week, so I was hoping to dance away the extra calories today. Oh well, I hope my hips will recover by Thursday.

But it wasn't a total loss though. My hips may be aching but I worked my butt, quads and my upper body for like 20 minutes altogether!

Good for you listening to your body. I don't like having the AC down to low as I get cold but I do adjust it down a degree when I workout just because I work up a sweat... course I keep it way higher than the average person....

I hope your hip is better... I get bursitis in my hips occasionally and it's no fun.

I totally know how you feel (it was stupid-hot up here yesterday too!). If I'm overheating too fast, I pull a rice bag out of the freezer and wrap it around my neck like a scarf.

To make the freeze-able/microwave-able rice bag:
1. Sew clean fabric (tight weave, preferably cotton) into a long tube with the right sides together. Double stitch all the seams to prevent rice from escaping.
2. Fold over one end and stitch shut (with a double seam again).
3. At the other end, sew a simple seam 1/2way across the top, leaving enough room to use a funnel to pour in rice.
4. Turn right-side out.
5. Pour in uncooked rice. The bag should be no more than 2/3 full. Any more than that and you'll have a bolster-pillow, not something flexible to wrap around your neck or back when you overheat.
6. Fold the rest of the seam inside the bag and sew straight across the top of the bag. Sew a second line.

You now have a flexible scarf good for cooling you down in the heat or heating up in the microwave for weary muscles/cramps!

Addicted to seedless tamarind!

Sunday, June 10, 2012

Oh My! I can't believe I've eaten so much seedless tamarind! It's so addictive. They are little pieces of dried seedless tamarind mixed with dried plum. It's really hard to get our hands on them because they're so popular.

Anyway, my Mom just bought 24 bottles. 16 will go to my Auntie in Singapore. She LOVES them! I love them too. Oh! they're soooooooooo addictive! You eat one piece and you just want another, and another and another! Calorie wise, they're not fattening but man! if I didn't control myself, I could finish an entire bottle (or 2!) in one sitting. Then my Mom will get mad because she loves them too! LOL!

What's the matter with me! Sheesh!!!!

Saturday, June 09, 2012

I just don't feel like cardio these days! The thought of working up a sweat fills me with dread these days! What's the matter with me? It seems that I've nearly forgotten how good if feels after an exercise session that works up a serious sweat!

Could it be because it's so hot these day. But it's cooled down a little because of the intermittent rain we've been having. I did go for a walk today but I didn't sweat much because I was just walking to the nearby grocery store and back. About 40 minutes worth of walking to and from the shop (two 20 minute walks).

I really will have to push myself tomorrow. That's it, tomorrow after church, I will do a dance DVD!

There is nothing wrong with you. We all have those days. The important thing is that you did go out and do something. Congratulate yourself on that accomplishment and keep on keeping on. Have a great evening and a great Sunday.

you don't want to overdue it in the heat, just be sensitive on when you should be working out , maybe you should do it early morning before it gets so hot or late evening. Never push yourself in the heat and make sure your keeping hydrated...Keep Cool!

I didn't make it to the movies but...........

Thursday, June 07, 2012

I was actually thinking of catching a movie today but by the time I woke up, my Mom was already out. I forgot to tell her on Wednesday night to wake me up before she leaves. After I had lunch, I actually thought of catching the 5pm show of Snow White and the Hunts Man. Madagascar 3 looked interesting too. But because of the spate of robberies of lone shoppers etc. in the nearby malls right now, my Mom was afraid to go into the car park on her own.

So, I spent the afternoon sewing instead. I'm cross-stitching a 3 hearts in a row bookmark. I'll post a pic on my Sparkpage when I'm done! I didn't get much done as cross-stitching is major time-consuming but I was glad I managed to get some sewing done.

Then my Mom came back and we went out for dinner, lam mee, means noodles in broth with belacan (some Malaysian chilli paste thing). After that, we went to the mall anyway, we popped into the supermarket and my Mom did some grocery shopping. I bought some yummy japanese roasted seaweed snacks! I also bought some romaine lettuce and some back bacon! I have some unripe avocados in the fridge now, I hope they ripen soon because I can't wait to make and EAT a romaine, avocado and bacon sandwich on whole wheat bread!

1 Utama is one of my favorite malls! I used to go there very often before I moved to the States. Where I live now, we only have one mall - Cherryvale Mall. It is not very big compare to the malls back in Malaysia.
The nearest Japanese store where I live now is about one hour and 15 minutes drive without traffic congestion. Due to the distance, I only go there when I need something. Chicago Chinatown is like one hour 45 minutes drive without traffic congestion. We do have an Asian store here but not all cooking ingredients are available.
Belachan is not available in my area. :( I had to use a substitute Lee Kum Kee Shrimp Sauce (finely ground)

The mall was 1 Utama. I think maybe you can get the seaweed in the US. It's from Japan and they are basically slivers of roasted seaweed that you eat just like that!

I only stick already ripe avocados in the fridge for them to last longer. If you want unripe avocados to ripen faster, stick them in a paper bag at room temperature. They usually ripen within 1 to 3 days.
