Managed to get more exercise in today

Saturday, April 04, 2009

I did 90% of a complete workout because I was working out using the PC and it froze when the workout was almost at the end. How frustrating! I went out for a walk outside and found an abandoned kitten.

Thankfully I found a cat lover who decided to take it home just when it began to drizzle. Well, I guess I have to go back to the 6am plan again if I'm going to use the more reliable DVD player and TV downstairs!

Now, if only I could spring out of bed raring to go instead of groaning and reaching for the covers............

The fight goes on.....

Thursday, April 02, 2009

For the record, sometimes I manage to wake up early to get my walk in, sometimes I don't. By 8am, the famous hot Malaysian sunshine is almost at full heat, so if I don't get up by 6.40 the latest, I can forget about walking in the park. On the days when I can't get up ontime, I make sure I'm up by the the latest at 9am and do a workout DVD instead.

Actually, I prefer those DVDs because I work up more of a sweat than on my walks and it takes the brainwork out the workout, I just follow the DVD and I'm almost guaranteed a sweat. Sometimes, when I can't do my workouts in front of the TV, and I have to make up my own aerobic steps, I find it hard, I'd rather follow a DVD.

Have you ever tried Realplayer? It's great, now if I can't get the TV and DVD player downstairs (my entire family are TV addicts), I just use realplayer on my PC. Yup. I've turned my PC into a temp TV when I need it. Forget Dell Cineplayer and Microsoft Media player, waaaaay too sensitive, as bad as a sensitive DVD player, and I only buy original workout DVDs. What gives?

Anyway, after doing a DVD 3 days in a row, I've decided to give my muscles a break today to allow them to mend, I've been a little sore for days now. But the fight goes on tomorrow onwards, will it be jogging and walking in the park, or a workout DVD. Either way, I WILL get my am exercise in!

Way to go on the workouts! And I agree, it's good to give yourself a day of rest.

Great job getting your exercise in! I am the same way - I would rather do a dvd because I can mindlessly follow along and get a good workout. I do step aerobics. When I can't do it in front of the tv, I just put the dvd in my laptop computer. You can also do workouts from right here on SP. When I don't do dvd's I run on my treadmill indoors.

A rainy weekend

Sunday, March 29, 2009

Well, it kept raining in the evening, which is when I usually exercise. As a result, I had a shorter than usual walk on Saturday. Then on Sunday, me and my Dad watched Inkheart on DVD. Then it rained, cats and dogs. So I couldn't go out for my evening walk.

I was moping and thinking : "I HAVE to get some exercise in!" but the TV downstairs is occupied so I had no choice but to play the DVD on my PC and exercise upstairs. Fortunately, there's a bit of space to move in up here. I did a Denise Austin workout. I customized my workout, I did the pop dance, ballet sculpt along with the warmup and cooldown, of course, all in all, a 35 minute workout. Now I don't feel so guilty.

And guess what? After weeks and weeks of failure, I FINALLY managed to get up at 7am for church AND I didn't nap this afternoon. Now, let's see if I can repeat the feat on Monday morning.....

Inkheart the movie was great but I must say, too many changes and embelishments.

Wow, good for you! It was raining here all weekend also, so I wasn't able to do my usual walking. I never thought I'd miss exercise, but I do.

I've been wanting to watch Inkheart. Did you like it?

Good for you Eowyn, finding a way to exercise anyway was a great way to make lemonade out of the lemons tossed your way. Now that you were up early and didn't nap just concentrate on keeping that forward momentum going. emoticon

Another plan bites the dust.....

Thursday, March 26, 2009

On Tuesday afternoon, I had a cup of ginger tea and found that I couldn't sleep even though it was 2am. I was planning to stay up the rest of the morning and then head out at 6am for a brisk walk/jog but found myself yawning at 2.30am, so I decided to try sleeping after all and work up at 11.30am on Wednesday morning, which is my usual time to wake up.

Oh bummer, I thought, another wasted morning when I could have been working up a sweat instead. Then I fell asleep for an hour during my dialysis treatment. AND, when I got home at around 7pm, I felt so sleepy that I decided to take a nap. BAD IDEA! As I woke up at 9.40pm. I had drink then tried to go back to sleep but ended up tossing and turning to the wee hours of the morning. But this time, it isn't because of tea but an ill-timed nap. Needless to say, I woke up at 11.30am AGAIN on Thursday morning.

Well, tonight, I'll try going to bed earlier and FORCE myself out of bed at 6.40am for my AM workout. I think I need to pray now............

Good Luck with your plan! There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep. It drains you for the next day and throws all your good intentions off. Stay positive and that sleep will come.

I had trouble sleeping for the first 2 weeks after the time change so I know what a bummer it is to toss and turn. I'm impressed that you know pretty much what is interfering with your sleep. That means you can probably fix it. Is it possible to go for a brisk walk as soon as you get up at 11:30? I have a feeling that you're going to be successful and work it out. You're very motivated! Good luck!

Lord I ask that you help this woman with the rest that she needs at night. Help her to rest through the night and be able to get up when she needs to. Lord thank you for all that you do .

What do you do when you can't get to sleep?

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Well, I had a nice cup of tea with ginger, a common recipe in Indian tea shops in Malaysia. And now it's almost 2am and I can't sleep. Yes, you guessed it, I'm one of those ppl who are SUPER sensitive to caffeine.

You probably know by now of my struggle to wake up early in the AM only to be temporarily deaf at the appointed time, with my alarm clock ringing but me not not hearing it at all because I'm so deep in coma-like sleep.

Well, I've decide to turn this situation to my advantage. After I post this blog, I'll give myself 4 hour's reading time and head out the door at 6am and get my jog/walk in (I still don't have enough stamina to jog all the way), then force myself not to nap tomorrow and go to be early tomorrow night, and hopefully the following morning, I'll be rested enough to reset my inner clock (the fault inner clock that keeps me asleep till almost noon everyday).

Do you think it's a good experiment? I'd rather read than do nothing for 4 hours, as I definitely can't sleep tonight......

You should check out my post: http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/

Maybe you can find some help there.

I started taking melatonin and its been helping, especially with falling asleep. At first I was still waking up same time I did when I went to sleep at 2 am but now its getting better little by little.

If you decide to take it, I advice divide 3 mg pill (they usually come in this amount) but 5 pieces, otherwise if you take a whole one you might sleep all day.

Good luck with your plan! I love Ginger tea and green tea with ginger and drink it every day. The Ginger tea I drink is caffeine free and the green tea is with ginger is decaffeinated.

I think that's a very good plan; reading would be much more relaxing than tossing and turning, and feeling frustrated from not sleeping.

Hope it works for you and you are able to get your inner clock reset.
