What do you do when you can't get to sleep?

Well, I had a nice cup of tea with ginger, a common recipe in Indian tea shops in Malaysia. And now it's almost 2am and I can't sleep. Yes, you guessed it, I'm one of those ppl who are SUPER sensitive to caffeine.

You probably know by now of my struggle to wake up early in the AM only to be temporarily deaf at the appointed time, with my alarm clock ringing but me not not hearing it at all because I'm so deep in coma-like sleep.

Well, I've decide to turn this situation to my advantage. After I post this blog, I'll give myself 4 hour's reading time and head out the door at 6am and get my jog/walk in (I still don't have enough stamina to jog all the way), then force myself not to nap tomorrow and go to be early tomorrow night, and hopefully the following morning, I'll be rested enough to reset my inner clock (the fault inner clock that keeps me asleep till almost noon everyday).

Do you think it's a good experiment? I'd rather read than do nothing for 4 hours, as I definitely can't sleep tonight......

Maybe you can find some help there.

I started taking melatonin and its been helping, especially with falling asleep. At first I was still waking up same time I did when I went to sleep at 2 am but now its getting better little by little.

If you decide to take it, I advice divide 3 mg pill (they usually come in this amount) but 5 pieces, otherwise if you take a whole one you might sleep all day.

    Good luck with your plan! I love Ginger tea and green tea with ginger and drink it every day. The Ginger tea I drink is caffeine free and the green tea is with ginger is decaffeinated.

    I think that's a very good plan; reading would be much more relaxing than tossing and turning, and feeling frustrated from not sleeping.

Hope it works for you and you are able to get your inner clock reset.

Me and my Mom went to the mall on Tuesday to pick up my brother from work. The 3 of us then went shopping there.

I found 6 Denise Austin titles and bought 2 of them. I decided to buy the ones with the longest running time so I will get more bang for my buck. I have yet to try them, I'm planning to try them this weekend.

This is a double treat bcoz if I were to order them online, they would be super expensive. I'm so glad I can find them in Malaysia!

    I love Malaysia! I also love Singapore!
Whenever I go up there I always have a list of things that cost the earth to ship to Australia and go for a search for in KL and Sing.
You know what? Everytime, I always find it for half the price! Plus its easy to put into the suitcase and take back home too!

You will have to let us know how they work for you.

    emoticon It always helps to find things locally. I would think shipping would be really expensive from the US. My dd lives in England and shipping is always a problem. The actual cost of anything I ship her is minimal and often well below the shipping rates. I have paid at least and over twice the value of what I have sent to her to ship it.

if I want to be healthier and loose 20lbs, and especially my belly fat!

Well, another week has gone by and I haven't been very successful at waking up for my planned AM exercise. I will keep trying. I've made a bit of progress tho, I've set my clock for 8am instead of 6.30am (too deep in sleep to hear the alarm at 6.30am, lol!) and while I can hear the alarm at 8am, springing out of bed at that time is another story. I just shut the alarm and go back to snoozing till about 10.30am to 11ish.

Well, I have to go to church tomorrow, so I will have to wake up around 7am. I've made up my mind that I'm not going to take an afternoon nap tomorrow after church as I plan to reset my bio-time-thingy. Wish me success!

I bought a stability ball 3 years ago but didn't really use it much. I suspected it was too big for me because when I sit on it, I can't get my knees at a 90 degree angle and I was planning to either sell it or give it away.

Well, I exercised to a Denise Austin DVD today and she used a stability ball. I began to notice that her ball wasn't as well-inflated as mine. So I got my ball out and inflated it again (when I bought it the guy inflated it too much for me, so I deflated it one day and packed it order to get rid of it).

Surprise! surprise! It was the perfect size after all. I inflated it to the perfect degree and my knees were in a 90 degree angle! I'm so happy! Now, I won't have to buy a new ball after all! That's why I say welcome to an old friend!

Well, I've downloaded all of Coach Nicole's ball workouts and I can't wait to get started!

How disappointing! I wanted to get up at 6.30am to get some AM exercise in and failed, yet again! I'm sorry to keep boring you peeps with my inability to wake up early but to date, I haven't been able to keep that appointment with myself yet!

I went to bed about 11pm, got up at around 1am, noticed my Dad was still on the net, went straight back to sleep after that. I woke again some time later, but noticing that it was still dark out, went back to sleep again, and only woke up around 10am. Y'know, even when I wake up as late as that, I still feel reluctant to 'spring out of bed'! Oh, Good Lord! I'm hopeless!

I suppose I should obey my biorhythms and do my strengh training after instead of before dialysis. I was planning to do some strengh training after dinner, of maybe I should have done it before dinner because now I have to wait for my food to digest before I exercise.

AND, I can't exercise to vigourously too close to bed or I'll never get to sleep! So, what do I do now?

    I've been having a hard time getting up in the morning too lately.
Mostly because of it being winter, my house is kind of chilly at that hour, and I it's getting out from under the warm blankets that is the hardest.

Instead of making a drastic change right away in the time you get up, try getting up just a half hour earlier instead; when you get use to that, you can keep setting the time for earlier when you get up.

    What works for me is listening to my biorhythms and exercise when I have time and get awake which is usually about mid afternoon for me. I sometimes exercise when I get up but usually wake up by checking mail on the computer, etc. and getting a bite to eat to break the fast.

I do strength training exercises any time and sometimes just before I go to bed. Though they are strenuous they are not that "active" and I find that it relaxes my muscles and contrary to what some say, puts me right to sleep, but then I have decided that my body must march to the beat of a different drummer. LOL

Through reading your blogs am getting more glimpses into your life. I am sorry you that you must be on dialysis.

    Forget about getting up early until you get your sleep pattern sorted out, you must be tired with all those sleep interruptions!

Try doing several 5-10 mins workouts throughout the day rather than one big session.
It takes the pressure off and still creates all the benefits! Adding stress is the last thing you need.

Considering exercising is a stimulant - it really should be done during the day , not evening!

Also, you can exercise sitting down - just be sure to use your arms. It all helps. Good luck finding your personal pattern. emoticon
