Why eat out when you can make a nice simple meal in the home?

Thursday, September 01, 2011

I got a little extra money today, so I was thinking of McD's or delivery pizza. But my Dad got home just in time and refused to eat out.

So, I opened a can of sardines in tomato sauce, added the juice of 2 limes, sauted an onion and we ate it with scrambled eggs and fried rice from breakfast that my Mom fried earlier.

We are now full and the sardines were so yummy! with the lime juice added in!

God has a Purpose for Everything!

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

I was very upset at the dialysis center today. It was a public holiday today. I turned off my mobile phone the previous night to charge it. As a result the nurse couldn't contact me early this morning to tell me to come earlier.

As a result, when I reached the dialysis center about 11.45, I was told I have to wait a little longer because the only available place was already promised to someone who was coming at 12pm. I was fuming by the time they let me in at 12.35pm.

Well, they put me right across an old lady who also came late. She started at around 1pm. Here's where God works, toward the final half hour of the old lady's treatment, and my final minutes, I noticed that she looked very pale, I waved at her, but she didn't respond (she usually does), suddenly, her hand (the dialysis hand) flopped down to her side, and her head lolled over to the side too, I yelled for the nurses, saying that I thought something was wrong. Sure enough, she had collapsed, if I was even a little earlier, I couldn't have helped her, but I was there for a reason. So, I guess, God put me where he put me to help her today! I'm glad I was late after all!

A new way to prepare fish and chips!

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Or in my case today, hash browns.

I hate deep frying, it's messy to clean up and takes so much effort. Well, today I thought : if you can pan-fry steak, why can't you pan fry fish and chips? If it works, I'll be using much less oil and lessen the probability of being scalded by hot oil

And you know what? It worked! I got my perfectly fried fish (frozen) and hash brown using a lot less oil! This is the way I'll prepare fish and 'chips' from now on!

I don't fix the potatoes but it is a great idea. We pan fry our fish (frozen also) in 2 T. of olive oil and there is oil left in the pan after it is finished which means the fish is not absorbing too much of the oil.

Thanks so much!

Week 2 of Slacking!

Monday, August 29, 2011

It all started 2 Fridays ago. On the following Monday, I owed the machine 1kg, on Wednesday 0.7kg, and on Friday, 0.1kgs. I tried and I tried to limit my fluid and food intake but today, which is the next Monday, I still owe the machine 0.8kgs.

I'm a dialysis patient and owing the machine any amount of water is bad news. Today was partly my fault too, towards the second hour, the nurses decided to stop my treatment for a while because my blood pressure was a little low.

As always, I was concerned that my treatment would end up being longer, so I protested. Then, the nurse decided to start my treatment again. Towards the 3rd hour, I started feeling uncomfortable. So I had to stop my treatment a for a while anyway and my target was reduced, that's why I ended up owing the machine so much (800 grams = 0.8kgs).

Well, I've learnt my lesson, the next time the nurses want to do anything regarding my treatment, I'll just keep mum.

No, dialysis does not hurt, only the first few seconds when the needles go in, after that, you don't feel a thing. Sometimes you will feel dizzy or tired afterwards.

Wow, that must be really tough to sit there for so long and have to go through that. When I taught one of my students was developing problems with his kidneys and he was 17. It sucked big time for him.

It also must be hard to post about it and people don't know what to say because not too many people go through the same routine of trying to stay afloat with dialysis. Mostly they're worried about a few pounds not their life and we don't understand what you go through, just that it must be a lot.

What do you do to pass the time?

Does it hurt to have dialysis?

Trendy Crackled Nails!

Thursday, August 25, 2011

My and my mom just came back from the shop! We bought the new fangled crackle nail polish. We bought the gold base, and the blue and purple crackle nail polish! We have put in an order for the silver base as it was sold out!

I have trendy nails now, it was a cinch to apply. The crackle part dries very fast though. Has the crackled nail trend spread in the US as it has here in Malaysia?

I bought some but the crackle color dried at a different color than what it looked like on the bottle. Guess it picked up color from the base coat. I'll mess around with it more to get it figured out, but it's fun!

It started with the Katy Perry Crackle polish which was hard to come by that started in the spring. But now it's becoming more common.
