Yikes! I didn't achieve my dry weight today!

Monday, June 20, 2011

Oh no! I'm 56.2kgs instead of 56kgs after dialysis today. Which means no 2nd helpings of my Mom's delicious tom yum soup and no visits to the coconut groove or McD's tomorrow.

I mean, sure, 200 grams, big deal! But it's a big deal to me, after my almost stellar record of achieving my dry weight every time!

Sigh! I'll have to watch my fluid intake carefully from now on, even on weekends because most deaths happen on weekends....... emoticon

Hey there! Thanks DIVEDIVA1! I wish my friends the nurses would be so forgiving, my friend the head nurse refuses to speak to me today because they had of set a target of 4kgs for me today. It's Monday after all, I was quite 'fluid happy' this weekend......

Hey don't be too hard on yourself, yes be careful with your fluid intake but being 0.2 over your dry weight is not so bad. I am a dialysis nurse, I have seen so much "worse"!!!

Good for you to get your dry weight so consistently and to be so careful. I know how difficult it can be to follow the diet and fluid restrictions every single day. You have my deepest respect for that.

Bravo and don't beat yourself up over this 0.2. You will get it off on your next treatment.

Yikes! I didn't achieve my dry weight today!

Monday, June 20, 2011

Well, I didn't do so well in the dialysis centre today. Towards the last 15 minutes, I started getting cramps and getting breathless, sure enough I was getting an anxiety attack.

The nurse had to end my treatment 15 minutes early. As a result, I was 200 grams off the mark. Which means I was 56.2kgs instead of 56kgs, which is ideal. Yeah well, 200 grams is not a lot but it's marring my track record! I almost always achieve my dry weight!

Which is why, like a good girl, I only had one little helping of my mom's tom yum soup today, sigh! I would have loved seconds but I need to cut back on my fluids! That means no visiting the coconut groove tomorrow..... :(

A disaster averted!

Sunday, June 19, 2011

So, I'm sitting around surfing in SP, feeling bored, when the thought comes :

"Man! I could use a double cheeseburger right now, I'm sooooo hungry!".

I know it's a bad idea but the craving wouldn't go. And I was genuinely hungry, I've had nothing to eat all day but a couple of tuna sandwiches made with my mom's homemade bread.

My mind was debating where to go to get my snack. Should I walk 30 minutes to the closest McD's? To Old Town Coffee House for noodles? To the nearby café called Coconut Groove for a coconut shake?

Then I reflected on the state of my finances. I have been spending a lot lately, so I couldn't afford to spend more, I've got to start saving money. So, I decided to make myself some oatmeal with added cereal to make it thicker to take the edge off my hunger...

It worked! I'm not hungry anymore and the burger fantasies have disappeared! Hallelujah!!!

Coconut Jelly!

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Well, I finally went to the Coconut Groove today and had a coconut jelly. I initially wanted a coconut shake but decided on a coconut jelly instead because it's cheaper. It was cool and nice. The cafe also has a nice atmosphere. I did some cross-stitch there and finally finished a library book there.

Looks like it I have enough spare cash, this will be my regular Thursday hangout! I happen to see the glasses that the coconut shakes are served in, they are huge! I will only have a coconut shake if 1) I have enough spare cash and 2) if I am light enough so the shake won't make me too heavy for dialysis the next day.

I'll keep you posted if I do try a coconut shake!

In Malaysia, it's very common to serve young coconuts. They just cut to top off and you suck up the juice, then eat the coconut flesh. Young coconuts' flesh is easier to scoop out with a spoon than old coconuts' flesh.

Don't ask me how they cut the top off without spilling the precious fluid, somehow, they know what to do. What I'm guessing is, they just melt gelatine or whatever they use to make jelly into the coconut juice, hence, you get coconut jelly. It's very nice on a hot day!

A 'Me' day!

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Part I

Ah! How nice to have leisure time! I plan to do some cross-stitch today as well as some reading. I'm reading a Christian self improvement book atm, and I'm making notes so I get the most of it.

It's so nice to have a day all to yourself to do whatever you want! Oh, well almost the whole day, I have a Home Fellowship meeting tonight.

I did think of going to a café to enjoy a nice spot to do my sewing; but that means spending money. So, now I'm at home with the air-conditioning on as the heatwave in Malaysia is still on; and I just made myself a cup of green tea....ah! bliss!

Part II

Well, I've been sewing for some time now. I'm heading out for a coconut shake! I'll be back to tell you how it is!

Part III

Ooooh! Tough luck, the Coconut Groove is not open on Tuesdays. Really! That's the name of the café! They serve nothing but coconut inspired desserts. Oh well, I'll try again on Thursday! Sigh! And I was so looking forward to a coconut shake! I did pop in to check out the hairdressers next door, priceeeey! I don't think I'll go there unless I get a good part-time job that gives me lot's of moolah. Otherwise, I don't think I can get my hair done there!

I hope you have had a nice day for yourself! My Tuesday is just beginning here in Des Moines, Iowa, USA. I think it will be rainy, but maybe it will clear up. My 3-year-old daughter loves to take walks!
