Back on Track

Wednesday, April 16, 2014

I have finally gotten back into my exercise routine after a bout with shingles. It was primarily around my waist and back and rubbing clothing wasn't comfortable. Now I'm working on the 5K program and back to strength training..
I've also been working on pysanky again this year to add to my collection of eggs for the Easter season. Here is a picture of some of the eggs my daughter and I made.

Needing a Dose of Spring!

Friday, February 28, 2014

I don't have a problem with winter, I really don't. I usually enjoy shoveling and I like to walk around the block when it is snowing and peaceful. I even like sitting on the back deck, all bundled up, to watch the flakes fall. But this winter has been different. It has been so bitter cold, making it very difficult to walk outside for more than a minute, and we have had so much snow and ice that shoveling has been a chore instead of pleasure. Now we are calling for 8 to 16 inches from Sunday through Monday. That's if we are lucky and the front doesn't shift. We were at -10 again this morning and more cold is due. I'm blaming Punxytawny Phil for this weather!
So...I'm ready for spring to come.

How about you? Do you feel the same way?

I agree, our winter has been a bit different to yours in that we had bitter cold combined flooding instead of snow, it rained non-stop for months and has only just stopped a couple of weeks ago.
It's amazing how resilient nature is and spring moved in apace with all the lovely colours and flowers.
The weather doesn't quite match up though, we have the odd warmish sunny day but mostly it's foggy, cloudy, cold and windy but...at least it's not raining!
We put the clocks forward last week-end but the lighter evenings don't seem to have helped much.
I do hope your spring soon arrives! emoticon emoticon

I agree; even among the people I know that usually love winter are tired of it this year.

WoW!! Snow wasn`t a problem here. It was the extreme cold! -42 with windchill -63 this morning. We have had 32 days of -30 or lower temperatures here always with the wind that never stops on the prairies.. Walking outside just hasn`t been safe and poor pooch misses her long walks too..
Lets hope there is an end in sight somewhere!

We have had a few warmer days here and the snow piles have been decreasing rapidly. Yesterday on the way to the gym, I decided to walk around to the places I was on the day I lost my Fitbit in the snow. Sure enough, about a foot from the ground, still half sunk, was what I had been looking for! Surprisingly, when I tapped it, the display came on and the battery was still full. I dried it in rice for the rest of the day and today, put almost 12000 step on it. Glad I had to wait before I could get another or I'd have an extra! Although I found a few possible replacements that do more than count steps and calories burned, I think I'll stick with this one for a while, and I'll be sure that it is secure before I do any strenuous work again!

I'm so glad you found it, and that it is working! It must be well made if you were able to get it to work after all that.

Lost my Fitbit

Sunday, February 16, 2014

I've been using a Fitbit for over 6 months now and synching it to Spark People has been a motivation to move more. Yesterday, sometime in the morning, I lost it outside while I was shoveling out about 2 feet of snow. Unfortunately, the snow was soft and it probably sunk when it hit, so it is most likely under a few feet of snow along the "tunnel" that is my walkway. Either that or it was plowed up by the guy who plows us out. It may not surface until spring if it does at all. Makes me sad, but I'll have to record all the exercise manually until I can replace it. I think I need something that is attached to my body. This isn't the first time I've lost it. During the summer I "planted" it along with a bush. Fortunately, it synched to my phone and I found it by digging it up, bush and all. Maybe I'll look at the Spark Tracker while I decide what to get.

So sorry about your Fitbit :( The only reason I don't buy one is because I have lost too many pedometers (5) and don't want to lose something more expensive. Clip ons don't work for me and the safety clips are a joke. I have very tiny kid sized wrists so wrist bands don't work either, can't make it small enough to fit..
Hope you can find it!
Re the Spark tracker -I have already had 2 friends lose theirs -apparently clipping it on the shoe doesn't work any better..

My twin lost her fitbit and the manufacturer replaced it for free. Not sure how long she owned it, but less than a year. So I would recommend you give it a try, or if you decide to get a wrist fitbit, tell the manufacturer what happened and maybe they will give you a discount. They actually seem willing to do such, as I read someone else who said the fitbit manufacturer replaced their's free.

Aw. That sucks. There's probably a Fitbit out there saying "It's cold." Hopefully, you are able to find it before spring.

That is a real bummer. I took my Bodymedia monitor off while out dancing last night, and I felt lost without it.

One Year Sparkiversary

Monday, February 10, 2014

It has been one year (plus a few days) since I started my journey on Spark People. I have been successful in losing weight and most importantly I have changed my lifestyle. I have been eating better and have been exercising regularly. My overall health has improved and I feel good about those changes I have made.
I find that I must be accountable to myself and recording everything that I eat is a necessity to achieve that. I think about what I eat before I eat it and that is a habit that is ingrained now.
I have also found much support here as well from others who are on a similar journey to mine and to those Spark friends, I want to say thank you.
I'm not much of a blogger, but I think this is a good time to try to get in the habit. I may not inspire others, but it may be just what I need for the second year to continue success.
