What's Changed

Friday, November 16, 2012

I'm starting to get to the point where the scale is slowing down. I knew this day would come, so today I'll write a little bit about what I'm thankful so far in my Spark Journey:

1) Better Mood- I have more energy, I feel better, and I'm enjoying things more than in the past
2) Auto Pilot- Making healthy decisions is almost in auto-pilot for me. Skipping breakfast isn't an option like it was in the past. I don't even consider going out for lunch. Soda? No way! These aren't even cravings like in the past, healthy living is becoming part of my everyday life.
3) Clothes- My clothes are fitting better (i.e. they are tight, but I don't feel like I'm going to explode out of them)
4) Self Image- I'm more positive and confident than in the past.

Persistence is far more important than perfection. I'm looking forward to the weekend and good days ahead!

Jim

Quick Entry

Wednesday, November 14, 2012

Everything is going splendidly here. I'm continuing to exercise and eat right. I've got a couple big milestones coming up once I hit 233 lbs (3 lbs away):
-My BMI will drop to 29.9- and I will no longer be considered "obese" according to that metric (only "overweight"...so there is still room for improvement)
-I will have lost 5% of my body weight.

Stay tuned....

Lessons Learned

Sunday, November 11, 2012

So i went into SF last night to visit with a college buddy who is in town for the weekend... need I say more? We ate unhealthy, drank too much, but had an awesome time.

You may be thinking that I'm disappointed and down on myself for making those poor choices. Not necessarily. In the past, I would have let last night's indiscretions carry over into today by going out for an unhealthy breakfast, which would lead to more poor eating habits while sitting around watching football, and then BAM! I'd be off the wagon in no time.

Today I woke up, and the thought of going to McD's briefly crossed my mind, but today was different...I had a louder voice in my head...it said get up and have some cereal with a banana, and I did. I'm very proud that I didn't let one bad evening get me off track.

Persistence is FAR MORE important than Perfection.

Good for you! It's okay to have a meal with a friend and have a good time. You did great on listening to the voice saying to have a good for you breakfast. If you think of it as a lifetime journey instead of just something to lose weight you will do well.

Very nice, that seems to be the key to it all. Not that I've really figured it all out, but what I do know is I'm not going to give up, and it sounds like you have that mentality too. Great job. BTW you must live in Nor Cal? It's a great time of the year to be up here!! Take care, have a great week, and keep sparking, it's good for the soul!

Great going, Jim. An honest balance between good times with friends and some sense of portion control is essential for keeping on your program. As you are proving, a night off does not end your commitment to yourself. And enjoying friends is as much a part of that committment as leading a healthy lifestyle.

As it happens, much same thing happened to me last night in FL. My wife and I joined friends for a dinner at their place. Between the drinks, appetizers, great meal with one of my favorite deserts, the idea of keeping dinner at 1000 calories was hopeless. And silly. I'm eating usual low maintenance way today and will until my brother-in-law arrives in a few days and we spend some quality time watching the games or whatever with some beer and pizza. I value those days as much as I value keeping fit. It will all work out.

Alone Time

Friday, November 09, 2012

I have the house to myself this weekend with my Fiance out of town. So, I'm going to start the weekend off right by walking 2.3 miles to the movie theater to check out Wreck It Ralph. I've never gone to see a movie alone before, so this will be an interesting experience!

Aside from that, I'm planning on going for a couple of long runs this weekend in preparation for my January marathon. I'm really excited to get up early tomorrow and hit the pavement, a feeling I haven't experienced in a long time. For the past several years I've loathed the long weekend runs. I can't pin point an exact reason why I hated them, but I did. I'm glad that I'm back to enjoying them.

Happy Friday,
Jim

Nothing Really New to Report

Friday, November 09, 2012

Another day of eating healthy, 6.75 mile run today. I'm starting to improve my pace per mile, and I'm managing to do so injury free. All and all, I'm feeling pretty darn good!
