I haven't felt very bloggy lately... maybe its the weather. :)
So, I get on the scale this morning after being ravenously hungry for the last several days. Mistake #1. Holy crap. Did not need to see that number.
Got on the bike trainer regardless of what the number said and started to think... I ate dinner at 10PM last night, do you think that has something to do with the weight gain? Uh, yeah, you ding dong. I usually eat between 6 and 7, but life got in the way. So, in the spirit of positive self talk as I'm watching a TV show about a mom who killed her son so he wouldn't kill anymore people (how uplifting...NOT), I told myself, that weigh in doesn't count and I am going to see what the scale says tomorrow.
I'm working today (I know that is shocking to all of you who read my blogs), but so far, all is well in our tiny little county. We have to go pick up our second ambulance from the shop and swap some expired drugs and materials off our backup unit and hopefully that's all the work I have to do today.
In other news, I'm going to Idaho on Monday. WHOA. Slow down, Janette... Idaho?? Yes, dear sparkfriends, Idaho. My husband has the opportunity to go to Idaho for work and I am going with him. My boss was totally cool with me taking a few days off to go, so we are flying out Monday and should be back in good ol' WV on Wednesday. I am hoping to take lots of pictures and post them. It is a rather unique opportunity for me. Hopefully my subsequent photo blog will show you why.
Ok, we just got the word that we need to go get our rig, so hi ho, hi ho, down the mountain we go!

My meal plan calls for salami today... I didn't think salami was all that healthy, but for the month of March, I promised myself I would adhere to the meal plans on Spark as closely as possible (I'm kind of picky, so I had to make a few substitutions).
I had a great run yesterday. I keep breaking my run times down. I even threw in a few hills to challenge me. I'm still not down to my PR or PG, but I am giving myself until the end of this season to do that.
It looks like I will not be running the half marathon I wanted to this year. My husband has an event in PA that he wants to go to. The event has a 5k in the morning so I compromised and said I would go with him if he got me there early enough to run the 5k. Deal.
I think I am going to try an LSD (long, slow, dumb) run on Sunday on the half marathon course to see if I can do it. I know its going to be mind over matter for me. I've never run even close to that distance. The longest run/walk I've done is 7.5 miles. The up side is, the course is a gradual down hill and rolled gravel until the last 2.5 miles, which are pavement.

Last night was the "Make Connections 5k - Supporting Veteran Education" run. It was cold and snowing here yesterday morning and I debated not going. I went.
I got to the race a bit early so I could register, loosen up, etc. I was overhearing some folks talking about the course. It was uphill for the first mile plus. I looked over to where the course was... ugh. It was. a lot. of up.
Not sure if you can see it, but there's a stone building way off in the distance. That was the top of the hill they ran us up.
My friend showed up with her family. She's very fit, Army chick. She and I had talked about the race. I figured she would be waiting for me at the end.
The race started a few minutes after 6:30PM. As with any race, we jockeyed for position off the start line. My friend took off in front of me (uphill start). I thought, well crap, see ya later, I just didn't think it was going to be this soon. I stayed on her heels.... out of town, over the bridge and then up, up, up. I passed her. I passed lots of people. Now, let me justify these statements. I NEVER pass people in a running race or in the run portion of a triathlon. I certainly don't pass people going uphill. I couldn't believe it. Who is this person that showed up for the race and what did they do with Janette? I just kept running, head down, two steps/two count breath in, two steps/two count breath out. In, out, keep turning the legs over, in, out, keep turning the legs over. I made it to the turn around point. I was behind my normal race pace, but we had also ascended 400+ feet over the last mile and a half!
I headed back down. I stretched my legs. I hooted and hollered at the other runners and walkers. They hollered back. :) I forgot how much I miss racing... not for the "I beat you" factor, but the community,the support, the cause, and all the other happy things that go along with it.
I made it to the bottom of the hill. My tummy said, by the way, did I mention I don't like physical activity in the evenings?? I said, tummy, please cooperate, we are almost there. And it did. Up the last hill in town and a downhill finish. My friend's brother and daughter were waiting for me at the finish line cheering me on. They had met me an hour beforehand. :)
Obviously, I didn't place. However, they drew names for door prizes and I won a 75 dollar gift card to Barnes and Noble! :) WOW! I couldn't believe it.
So there's my race recap. I'm already looking for another race to do.
PS my legs are a bit sore this morning. :)

Ok, walk to the stop sign. Ok, go. You're running too fast, slow down. Ow, hip, stop hurting. Thank you hip. 4:50, I should be pretty close to that half mile point... 5:42 at a half mile! What!!?? Why are you so slow? I knew I should have worn my ipod to keep pace. No, you're running on the main road. You need to hear the cars coming up behind you. Shoot, you forgot to put on your road ID. Now you're definitely going to get mowed down by a car.
Outside voice to a guy driving on the shoulder "HANG UP AND DRIVE!"
At least dad is the paramedic on duty today. Hill, hill, hill, you can make it to the green sign, then turn around. Push, push, push. You can do it, JB. Take it easy going down this hill. Pavement, gravel, downhill, bad. Ok, speed up. Too much speed... walk it out for a bit 10, 9, 8,7, 6, 5, 4,3, 2, 1 RUN. Almost to the turn then smooth sailing to the finish. Hi Donnie. Ok, three more posts and you can stop. Thank God. *pant, pant, pant*

I'm wearing my "skinny jeans" once again. I actually took a moment to stop, look in the mirror, turn to the side, turn to the front, and smile. Now, to just STAY in them. :)
I have a 4 mile run scheduled for today. The weather will hopefully cooperate.
How'd you do with compliments yesterday? Did you say thank you or some sort of positive self reinforcement?
Everyone sees it, but you sometimes.
