Last day of week 3

My training is going pretty good. I did day 3 of week 3 today. Next week I move on to 5 minute intervals. Though I am scared, I did 3 minute just fine...so I am sure I will be able to do 5 minute also. And they aren't all 5 minutes...it is broken up. I am most scared for the 20 run I will be doing in two weeks...hopefully, I will be ready by then.

    Interval training on a schedule is fine but you needn't be scared about the schedule. You should only use the schedule as a guide and pay attention to what your body tells you. If your body aches a lot, maybe you should ease up and not go on to the next level. If your body doesn't ache or you don't feel pain, it is safe for you to go to the next level. Just remember that a little soreness feeling after the run that goes away in a few hours is ok in my view. OlderOwl emoticon

"First" day of summer

Today was the first day my girls had off from school, so I had to be sneaky about my run...I let them stay up super late last night so I could sneak out in the morning while they were sleeping. Whahaha. I don't know if I want them to get in the habit of staying up super late though, so I am gonna have to start setting my alarm a bit earlier so I can go out in the morning.

I tried to take them on my run with me, but even though they are fast for their age, they are still way too slow for me.

Anyway, I totally changed up my training...mostly because I fasted on the wrong day. So, today I ended up doing day 2 of interval training. Once again it was 90 sec run, 90 sec walk, 3 min run, 3 min walk, 90 sec run, 90 sec walk, 3 min run...done

New Schedule Starts Tomorrow

I think I may have been going a little too gung ho on my running training. Especially after I realized that the APP I am using only has three days of running a week. Not to mention, my legs have decided they hate me. *I think this may be from the 30 flights of stairs yesterday, more than the running.

Anyway, since my APP changes intensity with my next run, and this is the last day of the week, I thought this would be a great time to change my training schedule.

I found a few awesome tips on About.com that I have started to employ...one of which was my posture. After watching a video about running posture, I realized today that I was making a few mistakes, which I fixed. But, also one of the videos was about a good training schedule...so I think this is how it will go.

Sunday: Long, leisurely walk
Monday: Rest day (this is also my fast day...so exercise is bad that day)
Tuesday: Interval training
Wednesday: Cross training (bike ride or stairs if my legs don't still hate me)
Thursday: Interval training
Friday: Rest day
Saturday: Interval training

Next week's interval training looks scary though. Right now, my intervals are 90 second runs and 2 min walks. Next week will be 90 sec run, 90 sec walk, 3 min run, 3 min walk (repeat).

    My body can handle only 2 or 3 runs a week, max. I rollerblade, walk, bike and elliptical on off days. But adding HIIT (check out Fitness Blender) and interval training has helped my drop my 5k time by more than a minute. And that's during training, not racing. Keep mixing it up and watch for surprising results after a few weeks with the interval training.

Today, I went for a nice leisurely walk....that included climbing 30 flights of stairs. I am not sure that I don't prefer running...LOL

Yesterday was like Christmas...I got my new fitbit from UPS right when I came home from buying my new running shoes. I am so excited.

The shoes are exactly the same as my old running shoes, just less wore out and a different color. It is gonna be awesome for the colorblast 5k in September...which is what I am training for, sorta.

The fitbit so far seems awesome. I went up 12 flights of stairs today...but since I live in an upstairs apartment, that is sure to change.
