Moving on Monday

Monday, October 25, 2010

Today is Monday, a day to move on!
Last week I called a friend to make final plans for a much anticipated vacation only to learn that it wasn't a good time for a visit. So, instead of flying to Florida on Wednesday, I will be driving to work. Right after that, I learned that someone was moving into my office and I had to be moved out by this Friday. I am being moved into a little wedge of an office which isn't large enough for my [wonderful] desk. If I hadn't lost some weight, I think I would have a real problem turning around in the new space!
So today I am looking at the other side of the story. If I was on vacation this week, someone else would have had to move my office which would have created a burden for them and real confusion for me when I returned to work. I had a nice office for a year and now I will make the best of my new space, grateful as always to have my job.
Last night I watched the movie, Amish Grace, and was reminded of the importance of forgiveness. Holding onto anger is like holding onto a hot coal, it only burns your hand. Today it is time to toss that coal and move on.

I hope that you have a better week next week. I love your thoughts on moving on. There is not much that you can do about any of this, we may not like some things but we have to accept them and move on.

My Second Job

Sunday, October 17, 2010

Last Monday I met some friends for dinner at 5:30 pm. When I arrived, someone said "You worked out first". Part of that comment may have been due to my appearance but most of it was because my friends know that I work out everyday after work. I went to work early that day so that there would be time to exercise before going out to dinner.
I now consider my time at the fitness center my "second job". With this new perspective, it becomes important that I show up everyday and complete my daily goals, just like at my office job.
Both jobs offer great benefits. My "Work In" job provides professional satisfaction, medical benefits including the Passport to Wellness program [where I learned about SparkPeople], free access to the fitness center and a pay check every 2 weeks. My "Work Out" job provides aerobic and strength fitness, the comradery of others while exercising, and the advice of the exercise physiologists. Others want a second job to have a wealthy lifestyle but my second job offers much more than money can buy - it is providing a healthy lifestyle!

That's a great way of looking at it. Health is so important. If you don't have that you don't have much of anything.

A Kentucky Derby Size Goal

Saturday, May 01, 2010

emoticon It is Kentucky Derby Day!!! emoticon

Against great odds, 20 3 year olds make it to the Kentucky Derby every year on the first Saturday of May. It is not an easy road. Some people are involved in horse racing their entire lives and never have a horse make it to the Derby. It takes hard work, perseverance and a strong desire to achieve the ultimate goal. It reminds me somewhat of my weight loss journey. It takes hard work, perseverance through years of trying and now a strong desire to live a healthy lifestyle. I have achieved my goal of attending the Kentucky Derby and now my goal is to happy, healthy and fit. It is time to focus on my Run for the Roses!

Hi Emmalou! I am also on the 100lbs to lose team and just wanted to say hi. I see you got to attend the Derby. Are you from Louisville? I am right across the river in Southern Indiana. We might be neighbors! emoticon
