I am an outdoor exerciser; my cardio minutes come from riding my bike almost daily and paddling the dragonboat with my team twice a week. This early winter shoved a big wrench in those works. Portland had the most snow it's had in more than 50 years; roads were impassable by any wheeled vehicle, and our boats were frozen solid. After the thaw, the winds whipped and the river ran high and full of debris. Still no riding, and no paddling! I've been feeling myself getting soft, and I gained a few pounds back. But mostly, I've just been going crazy from being unable to get my exercise!!
FINALLY... the snow and ice are gone, the winds are manageable, and the river has calmed a bit. Finally I can ride and paddle again! My muscles feel better though it will take some time for them to firm back up. Hopefully those few pounds will go quickly. And I just recently added a new cardio workout - swing dancing - which I can do even when the winds howl and the river runs high.

Summer fruit time! yay!
Today I've had a peach and an apricot, and I've got some strawberries waiting on my desk. I love summer! It's early yet but soon the berries will be out in force... and I'll be buying flats of them... eating and eating and eating and then hopefully freezing some. Berry season is so short, I just want to make the most of it.

I'm pretty sure I've blogged about this before... the set-point re-set. My "set-point" - my body's natural happy place - was 185 for years. I topped out at 195 but fortunately didn't stick there. On my way down I've plateau'd at several intermediate weights; I say that was re-setting time. So now I'm re-setting again, this time right around 170. Plateaus are always a little frustrating, so I have to keep reminding myself how great it is to be "stuck" at 170 instead of 185 or 195... and that I'll lose those last few pounds in time, no rush. Summer is here, so lots of fresh fruit and outdoor activity are in store.

The 3lbs are gone again, taking an extra 1/2lb with them.
I shall remain vigilant in the face of trail mix, m&ms, and brownies.
I admit I am curious. Many people have experienced gaining and losing the same 2-5lbs over and over again. I wonder if it's my turn. I've experienced the never-ending plateau (which does, of course, eventually end) during which I'm careful and diligent; and also, weeks of screwups followed by inexplicable weight loss. Am I due for a mini-yoyo? or was that a real warning, which, since I paid attention and got back on track, will be followed by continued gradual weight loss?
I guess I'll find out!

The last 3lbs are back!!!
Or else the 171 on the scale was a fluke.
Either way I should have expected it. I stopped paying attention. I ate dessert every day, sometimes twice. I stopped counting the number of m&m's in my cup. I ate loads of trail mix. And then I remembered to use my scale as a wake-up call before it got worse.
I tracked yesterday for the first time in ages. Even though it was hard - day-long munchies!!!!! I stayed under 2k calories for the day. Today it's nearly 3pm, I'm at 900cal, it's snacktime... and I'm not hungry enough for any of the snack options I have at hand.
This is a good thing. Delayed snacktime means I don't get hungry on the bus ride home and I don't raid the cupboards before dinner. I can just make dinner, make it healthy, and eat a reasonable quantity at a reasonable time.
yay! SP works!!
