Christmas crash

Sunday, December 25, 2011

I guess I took a "break" for Christmas, haha. Oh well, I'm back now and ready to hit the ground running.

I'm still not sure what I'm doing with my gym memberships. As it stands, my YMCA membership will be cancelled as of Jan. 15th, and the plan is to cancel my Curves membership on Feb. 15th. I think I've got enough fitness videos and games to make do without a gym membership for a good while, anyway.

I bought myself snowshoes as a Christmas present (from "Santa"... yeah, that's it...) Now if would just hurry up and SNOW, that would be great. What kind of weather is this? No snow in Minnesota, and it's already almost JANUARY! WHAT?! Crazy weather!

Anyhoo. I also got Just Dance 3, Exerbeat, and Zumba 2 (all for the Wii) so I can't wait to play those. I needed to buy a few Wii remote pluses, though, so I'm waiting until those come in the mail (should be here sometime next week - yay!)

My goal for this last week before the new year is to clean up my "pinkroom." My pinkroom is my computer/craft room, and the place is a DISASTER AREA (code red, not pink). My goal is to get the floor space completely cleared, so I can exercise in here. I got a HUUUUGE new computer monitor for Christmas (yay!) and I just ordered some speakers, so my plan is to do my exercise videos on here. So far I'm thinking I'll start TurboFire on Jan. 1st, but I'm still debating between that and doing Insanity with a friend. Anyhoo, if I get pinkroom cleaned up, I can use my PC and my laptop at the same time, and do Walk Away the Pounds while I watch a movie or TV shows. That makes the 1-hour 4-mile walk go a LOT faster, which helps.

I went on a walk with the puppy today (only 20 minutes, about a mile and a half) and it was good to get out. I think he'll have a lot of fun once it snows and I take him through the woods with me while I showshoe. =)

OKAY! I'm going to go work on organizing the pinkroom a little before hitting the hay. Good night, and Merry Christmas! =)

CONSTANT VIGILANCE!

Monday, December 19, 2011

I sort of re-thunk cancelling my YMCA membership, and I think I’m going to keep it. My original plan was to keep my Curves membership ($48/month) and cancel my YMCA members ($62/month), and then do Zumba at Curves ($2 for “in the circuit” classes and $7 per hour long every-other-Saturday class). But if I did Curves + 2 Zumba classes a week + 2 Saturday Zumba classes… that’s $78 a month. OR I can pay $62/month to go to the Y, which weight equipment and Zumba classes, PLUS cardio equipment (ellipticals, stationary bikes, treadmills), a LOT of cardio classes (Cardio Kick, Latin Hip Hop, Zumba, Turbo Kick, Body Step), yoga classes, a pool and water aerobics classes…

So yeah. I figure it will be better to just stick with the Y. I also printed out exercise class schedules for the 4 YMCA locations within a half hour drive of my house, instead of just the Shoreview one, and that gives me a LOT broader range of classes to choose from.

Managed to lose 1 lb last week and half a pound this week. Not much, but at least it’s movement in the right direction. I’m shooting for TWO pounds this week, lol. It’s hard, because I’m working on losing the 10 lbs (10 LBS!) I gained back since July, and it’s frustrating to be covering ground I’ve already covered. I already lost these pounds, darn it!! Hopefully that will be lesson learned for me, and henceforth my motto will be CONSTANT VIGILANCE!

yay i'm glad you figured things out. Curves is great but only offers so much that is why I never rejoined. Good luck with that stickler 10 lbs. I know you can do it

I know what you mean, it's even worse for me though. My goal was 225, right? Anyhow, I was stuck at 230 for the longest time, and it started going down again, literally TOUCHED 225 then went straight back to 230. I was so excited when I was at 225. Then the next day, and the next, and the next, the weight kept coming back. Luckily, all the gyms around here have classes included in the membership, except for the college one (because membership comes with being a credit student).

Making it a great day.

Monday, December 12, 2011

Didn't want to go to Curves after work, but I went. Didn't want to do Walk Away the Pounds, but I did 4 miles (while watching BBC's Robin Hood, whee!!) I also managed to stay in all my nutrition ranges (well, I went over on my sodium, but that's sort of an "extra") and I'm feeling pretty darn good.

Outside the realm of diet and exercise, I'm doing... OK. My phone keeps randomly calling people when I'm doing anything with it (like trying to set my alarm...) so that's no fun. And my car has started making this awful crunching noise when I break - VERY not good. I'm hoping it's not going to cost me too much to fix, because I am (yet again) running low on money. Stupid adulthood. Stupid money. Oh well, I'll figure it out somehow.

Speaking of money, there was a sale on at Maurices and I bought a couple of new pairs of work pants. (Hmm, where does my money go?) I am down to one pair of work-appropriate pants that actually fit (I do also have about 5 pairs that I need a belt to hold up and even then they look RIDICULOUS because size 22 to size 14 is just not something you can take care of with a belt). Anyhoo, the point is that I really do NEED some new work pants, so I only feel mostly bad about buying them. And they were half off with free shipping, so that's good... AND I resisted buying the cute white corduroy pants that I super loved (maybe when I'm a size 8/10 it can be time for white pants, but not now!)

ANYWAYYYYYYY.... I should probably head to bed if I'm going to try to wake up early tomorrow and get that creamy crockpot chicken going before work. I also want to try to squeeze in either Jillian's 30 Day Shred video, or get to Curves and lift weights before work. Tomorrow is also the last day of Zumba at the NBCC, and I don't think I'll be signing up for it again in January. I also cancelled my YMCA membership (can't afford it for how little I go) so I guess I'm left with the Zumba game for XBox Kinect and the Zumba DVDs for all my Zumba needs. That ought to be plenty. =) I will miss doing it in a group setting though - live classes are so much more fun than a video at home!!

At least the new pants are a NECESSITY. I mean, whoa girl! Your booty is swimming in those pantaloons! Being an adult sucks but at least we're fun adults, right?

LOL. Size 22 to size14? I would think you would have gotten at least two pairs of work pants that fit by now.

Ohhhh, my kneeeees!

Sunday, December 11, 2011

Had snowboarding lesson #2 yesterday. OUCH! Both my knees are very bruised, and I am SO sore today. Mostly in my knees, and my neck/upper back. But it was a lot of fun, and I'm getting better (but not as good as my aunt and uncle are!) I think I have a good understanding of the technique, now I just need to be more ballsy and not psych myself out so much. That's my main problem, I think.

Another busy-ish day today. I've got to go do some shopping (new snowpants, wrapping paper and tape, groceries and catfood) and then I'm going to wrap the Christmas presents for Johnny's family we bought on Friday. Then I'll be ALL DONE with all of our Christmas shopping and wrapping. YAY! Then I'm determined to contribute at least 2 hours to knitting a blanket I'm giving as a Christmas gift. I'm also making a promise to myself (and to the blanket!) to work on it for at least an hour a day until it's DONE. If I really do an hour a day, it should be done by the end of next weekend, I think.

What else do I need to do today...? I suppose I'd better plan a menu for the next week before I go grocery shopping, so I know what to buy/make. I always do better sticking to my nutrition goals if I can plan it out and have the right food in the house to make healthy dinners.

Week 1 of the Winter Challenge review:
I could have done better. I did well on about half of the days sticking to my exercise plan and my nutrition plan. My goal for this week - do well on 3/4s of the days. LOL

Kind of a rocky week.

Thursday, December 08, 2011

I started the week out strong with that 2 hour snowboarding lesson on Saturday. YEEHAW!

Sunday I quit soda, and got a headache that started just before I went to bed.
Monday I gave blood. Caffeine headache so bad I went home sick.
Tuesday I had a family thing in the evening. Caffeine headache still going strong, but I resisted the siren call of Grandma’s fridge full o’ soda.
Wednesday I got my “lady time.” Caffeine headache still on a rampage.

TODAY, I still have a headache, but it’s less awful than it’s been the past few days. I think I’m finally getting over the caffeine withdrawals, and the silver lining is that after how INCREDIBLY AWFUL this has been, I think it will be a good long while before I’m tempted to even have a sip of soda. Actually, just thinking about soda makes my head throb worse.

ANYWAY. The long and the short of it is that Monday I didn’t exercise at all, Tuesday I only got in half an hour, and Wednesday again I didn’t exercise at all. Today and tomorrow I am determined to end the week strong, with 2 hours of exercise each day.

Today’s plan:

3:30 – Curves
4:30 – Walk Away the Pounds
5:30 – dinner
7:00 – either do the WiiFit Free Step or my balance board while watching “my stories,” or play a fitness video game for an hour. ALSO, 50 sit-ups or crunches before bed.

Today starts the regime of 100 sit-ups/crunches a day – 50 first thing in the morning, and 50 before beddy-bye time. I want to be able to stand up on the heel edge by the end of the snowboarding season.

I WILL DO THIS THING! FOR I AM MIGHTY THOR! (That’s right, I’m Thor today, ‘stead of Batman.)

Great job on the getting rid of the soda. I go in spurts, not having any for a long time, and then having one or two a day for a short while again. At least I don't have the headaches, but I know that water is better for me. Good luck on keeping it up. You'll get back to the exercise.

That sounds like a good plan. And it's so much better without living under the influence of soda. I've been drinking soda for the past 2 days due to surgery (yes, the told me to drink the soda and so my Dad bought me way too much so i'm drinking it like crazy) and I really do know that i prefer drinking water. Water will make you feel better. Go Thor!
