What happened!?

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Well this past year has not been very good for me in terms of losing weight. I managed to maintain a fairly steady weight at about 145-148 for most of the year and exercised fairly regularly the first half of the year despite not feeling myself most of the time. I am still trying to figure out what is wrong with me (if that's the right word). I've had numerous tests done throughout the year and have yet to figure out why I am feeling so crap all the time. I am constantly tired, foggy brain, moody, etc which has affected my motivation to do what I need to do. I have had my hormones tested which appear to be "within the normal range", my regular doctor tested my TSH level and said it was "within the normal range", although I had my chiro retest with some extra stuff since I trust him to actually try to help me out instead of just washing his hands of it. I am still waiting to see if this test has an answer for me. If only they had one of those machines like in Star Trek that would analyze you and tell you what was wrong! The next step if my thyroid is fine, will be to do a micro-nutrient test to see if I'm missing out on some key nutrients. I just wish I could think clearly so I could get myself refocused on what I need to get done, both with my weight/exercise and the rest of my life! I'm hoping that I can figure it out soon and get myself back on track. I'm going to force myself to get back on Sparkpeople every day and track my food and exercise. At least that will help a little bit. Looking forward to hopefully a better year in 2014 than I had in 2013.

Don't give up. You know if your body is not right. It took quite a fight for me to get them to "discover" I was hypothyroid. Hang in there. emoticon

I understand your frustration. Somehow I have this idea in my mind that if something is wrong, I go to the Dr and they fix it. I went through something similar last year with my digestive system, lots of tests before they came up with some answers, but not all. Our bodies are so complex that they really don't know, and often times are shooting in the dark to come up with answers. Praying for you, that you can find the cause of the problem and get it fixed.

Remembering 2012 and reassessing for 2013

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

2012 was a pretty good year for me. I managed to get down to my goal of 145 when I wanted to. Although I didn't stay there and a few pounds managed to creep back on, I am nearly 10lbs less than I was around this time last year so feeling pretty good about that. I also was able to run in a marathon relay with some friends from work (my leg was 6.5 miles and trained about 5-6 weeks having only run about 3-4 before training).

I kept pretty motivated and we kept up exercise throughout the summer going on bike rides (10-20 miles generally) every weekend we could, but unfortunately the food side let me down. We would ride our bikes and then stop for food before coming back to the car and of course I was not making the best choices.

My husband also decided that he wanted to get fit and joined Sparkpeople in February of 2012. He managed to lose about 40lbs by mid summer. I am so proud of him! To help us show the kids that we want to live a healthier lifestyle, we decided to do a more "fit" type vacation this year so went to Hocking Hills and did some hiking and canoeing which was really fun. Hopefully the kids will remember these kinds of things for the future.

Then of course school comes and although I was doing well with exercising, again, I was not tracking my food and not eating as well as I should. My husband and I decided to join the kids in karate classes since costwise it was not much more and it would force us to keep fit on certain days. Plus I don't have to sit and wait for them. It's much more fun to join in!

I managed to make a pretty good push in November and December, and managed to keep my weight steady. I am now about 10lbs lighter than I was in January 2012 (didn't enter my weight until Jan 12th so not sure of exact difference).

There was a "Committment Day" 5k here in Cincinnati on New Year's Day and my whole family did it. Although I was supposed to either sign up for the race or work that day (it was sponsored by Lifetime Fitness where I work), I am still glad we made the effort. I am committing to being healthier and fitter this year.

I am getting back into the swing of things and back gradually into exercising and tracking my food. I am hoping to be able to start running again soon once I get some warts removed from my foot. I would like to run the Flying Pig half marathon in May. I am so happy to get back into karate after the 2 week break for Christmas and am looking forward to our second belt test this month.

Overall, I'm very happy with my progress over the last year, even though it wasn't exactly what I had planned. I am looking forward to an even better year this year and hopefully I will finally get to my goal weight. I am really going to push hard to get there and try not to have as many bumps as before. I am ready to tackle that challenge--I am committed.
