My first time running outside, April 7th, 2011.

Thursday, April 07, 2011

Finally I did what I have been wanting to do for a long time. I ran outside! It was a beautiful day here in Maryland and everything is starting to bloom. I have been so anxious about this first run that I could barely get myself to go outside and just start running. I actually walked up a couple of houses and went between them on a path so I could start in a spot that no one would be able to see me.

I struggled at first with a pace since I have only been on a treadmill which maintains my pace nicely for me. I got a belly cramp right away and just tried mentally running through all the things I have learned about running, even if it was on a treadmill.

NOTES TO SELF:

Loved the feel of the path under my shoes.
Loved the river that I ran alongside.
Loved the flowers and all of the trees that are blooming.
Loved the nice breeze that was blowing.
I ran through a puddle. Got my new shoes a little wet... : (
I ran through a puddle. Who doesn't like running through puddles!!
I had to stop and walk once up a nasty, nasty hill.
After I walked a little, I ran again!!!!
I realized that no matter which way I run from my house, I will always have to run uphill at the end to get home.
Nobody fell over laughing at me.
I could see my shadow and I looked like an ordinary runner to me...
I need an ipod arm thing.
Nobody passed me up, although it seemed that everybody was going the other way on the path.
I made it all the way home, not just to my secret starting point.

I waited for this day to come and hoped that my first time would be perfect! It was just that. I am a runner! I feel like superwoman tonight!

My running breakthrough.

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Last night I went to do my normal run, but when I set my treadmill up and started running, I felt like it was going way to slow and possibly broke? I turned the speed up a few and then a few more and then a few more till it felt right. But I could tell by my numbers that the machine wasn't really broken. I just felt stronger and faster and more comfortable running than I have ever felt since I started running back in September. It could be the new shoes? It could be that I try hard to have a good step and keep my pelvis tucked? It could be anything or even everything that I have been working on each time that I run.

I have been waiting and wondering if it would ever get easier for me and after running last night, I could look anybody in the face and tell them that I AM A RUNNER!! I have struggled with this feeling that I wasn't really a runner yet. I was very shy and uncomfortable talking about my running to anybody.

My BF has been trying to talk me into a 5K and I feel like I am really ready for that challenge! April 30th will be my first ever 5K. I am nervous, but can't wait! emoticon

Sugar Free Strawberry Jelly

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

My husband usually does all the grocery shopping for the family and since I have been on spark I have tried to get him to make smart choices at the grocery store. It is finally starting to sink in, I can tell!! He came home last night and was so proud of his discovery. Sugar Free Strawberry Jelly. He did a calorie comparison right at the store and the sugar free jelly has 1/5th of the calories that the regular stuff does. So for lunch today I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and an apple! It was a treat for me and so great to know that even though he doesn't count his calories, he is looking at labels and discovering ways to cut calories for us both!

I finally did it...

Monday, February 28, 2011

I have been needing to go shopping for some new clothes for a few weeks now, but just didn't get myself to the store. I finally went Sunday and bought some new pants and tops for work and for casual times with the family.

I also went through my closet and took out the stuff that is too big for me. I haven't yet taken it to goodwill, but I'm going to..... I promise!

Missed Opportunity

Friday, February 25, 2011

The other night, my daughters best friend was over and when her mother picked her up, we visited. She said to me "You look like you've lost a lot of weight!" These are the words we all dream of hearing. I have read about everyones struggles to respond to this type of a statement and had even thought of how I would respond if/when it ever was said to me. Why is it that I sheepishly turned my head and said, "yeah, a little bit." Then she asked me "How much?" I told her around 30 pounds. She said "That's a lot!" I am proud of my accomplishment and that she noticed. I wish I had handled it better! I hope I get another chance.

If you can't think of anything to say when caught off guard like that, the perfect thing to say is a big thank you!!!
