4) Do you know how to connect with your team mates?
emoticon Check and Double Check . . . This is my fourth challenge. Have already made some terrific friends and new friends!

5) Did you put your Summer 5% Challenge Commitment on your page?

I just updated my SparkPage with the following goals:
1) Maintain weight as I'm about to reach goal within a couple weeks. (WooHoo!)
2) Average an hour daily cardio and strength training
3) Track food and fitness daily
4) Eat six or more servings of freggies daily
5) Drink at least 12 cups of water daily
6) Sleep 7-9 hours a night six days a week.
7) Satisfy 4-7 recommended levels of: calories, fat, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, calcium, and sodium daily.
8) Spend at least 15 minutes daily in the study of God’s word.
9) Do something fun at least three times a week
10) Complete the knitting of one prayer shawl.

For the joy and beauty in my life found through the lens of my camera, I often look to nature in my own yard:

Making goals is an effective way to work towards achieving the desired results we want. I hope you're keeping your goals in focus today!

Taking time to Smell the Roses!

Wednesday, July 06, 2011

Simply Stephen writes, "Do you take time to smell the roses? Seriously? Stop and think about it for a moment, that is if you aren’t too busy. The world has become a demanding place. Perhaps it always was and those demands have just changed over the years. Now days, long work hours with even longer commute times, financial demands, technology changes, instant news, cellphones, emails, social media, fast food, fast this and fast that…how does everyone keep up?" Source: http://www.simplystephen.ca/take-time-to-s
mell-the-roses

I now enjoy many of my fitness minutes (turning into hours) by utilizing this very technique to stop and smell the roses. The following wild flowers were found on the Osaugie Trail that I sometimes walk along Lake Superior. The last photos shows the silhouette of my UV Umbrella from Sri Lanka. Sunscreen tends to make be tear all day, so I often walk with my handy bumbleshoot!

Are you smelling the roses along your journey to good health?

It is very eye opening when I stop to think about all really meaningless things I take time to do everyday instead of taking the time for me to enjoy the simple things around me. Many months ago I was stopped for speeding thankfully I only got a warning, but I took it very seriously. Now I don't mind taking my time driving or waiting in line at the store.

Thanks for sharing.

I wish I lived within walking distance of a place like that. Such beauty. I prefer to walk to my walking destinations (gas being almost as much as a gallon of milk where I am and being on a very tight budget, I can't drive where I'd like to). But you pose a great question. Do we take enough time to see what's around us and not take the beauty we have for granted? One day we may not have all this wonder that is around us, I think a great challenge for all sparkpeople out there should be to take at least 5 minutes a day and just walk around a park or a garden or even there own home and see what might've been forgotten or even missed in the hast of this modern day living.

The Spirit of the Fourth carries over today!

Wednesday, July 06, 2011

Here’s some of the return to the Duluth Bayfront to enjoy the fireworks last night, as well as ride the ferris wheel.

I managed to walk myself to exhaustion today with another great set of walks . . . Anything to get out of the house while workers are installing a new living room bay window.

One of the featured attractions of Duluth happens to be the Aerial Lift Bridge. There's only two in the world like it . . . the other one is in France. I don't very often get to see it at night.

Hope you’re working it well and enjoying the view.

Happy Fourth of July . . . a Beautiful Day in Photos!

Monday, July 04, 2011

Betsy Ross was kind to let me take her picture at the FourthFest Celebration in Duluth’s Bayfront. We'll go back tonight and watch the fireworks here:

Hope you’re having a great Fourth of July, as well. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance.” (Ps 33:12)

I worked in some great fitness minutes along Lake Superior today:

We played games:

We rode the Ferris Wheel:

We ate healthy:

and we simply had fun!

I think I broke my record of fitness by recording a total of 200 minutes today! WooHoo! Sure hope you made the most of your freedom today by making wise choices that not only bring you improved health, but increased joy! ((Hugs))

Set a goal! Want to Lose 5%? . . . New Challenge begins July 16

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

Be a blessing to yourself and in the process, be a blessing to others! Want to lose 5% of your weight in 8 weeks? Beginning July 16, another great 5% Challenge will begin with three exciting elements, all designed to help you remain focused on reaching your goal to lose 5% or to simply maintain, if that’s your goal. Caution: This is not a challenge for the weak at heart (sorry, no pun intended) . . . because there is a weekly weigh-in, along with daily logging of your fitness minutes and progress on living the weekly healthy habits focus. There are even challenges within challenges that you may choose to participate in.

This is my fourth 5% challenge! In the first challenge, it took me ten weeks to lose 5% of my weight. The second challenge gave me an opportunity to truly shine with 5% down the first 8 weeks and I reached the high end of a healthy BMI, with 6% weight loss, by the end of 10 weeks. I still have two weeks to weigh-in on the third challenge. I am now within six pounds of my 100 lb weight-loss goal and I have four weeks to weigh in before beginning this challenge. This is a major testament to SparkPeople and Teddy Bear challenges, since I had the mindset that I would be a Weight Watcher member on the ten-year plan. At this rate, I may actually succeed in closer to five years.

Here’s my BEFORE photo taken in 2004:

Here’s my NOW photo taken last weekend:

If you’re up to the challenge, please join us:

ndividual.asp?gid=50696

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all my great friends and the wealth of great resources placed before me throughout this marvelous journey. We are so fortunate to live in an era of research and information, access to a wide array of foods, and quality drinking water. Sometimes I need to give myself a good kick in the butt, but most of all, I need to give it a lot of tender loving care so that it becomes a quality vessel for my faith and worship.

Whatever your reasons or story, make on-going improvements to your health and your body will continue to say “thank you” many times over! Joining a challenge may be just what the doctor ordered!
