Love is a hug, hug!

Love is endless. I like to think of love as how we treat others, as well as ourselves. For SparkPeople, an element of love is readily measured by the way we meet our goals. After my weigh-in this morning I am now 79 pounds down and have 21 pounds to lose. I’m hoping I’ll be able to report that I lost at least one pound next week.

Lesson learned: Keep the garage door closed

Turns out we can't leave the garage door open for even a few hours . . . we seem to have a pair of mourning doves who have adopted our residence. Fortunately, we were able to move the nest before she laid her eggs.





As Christians, my family is beginning their 40 day, disciplined Lenten walk in preparation for Easter. I'm so blessed to have such great church communities in both our northern winter wonderland and southern paradise.

I'm happy to report that I met my nutritional goals two days in a row (calories, fat, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, calcium, and sodium). I'm also making headway on knitting a prayer shawl for March. Goes to show how important it is to right down our goals. WooHoo!

Small Successes are Huge!

It was another beautiful day in Paradise today as we picked up our Best People (Best Man and Best Woman from nearly 24 years ago) at the airport and basked in the beautiful sunshine of our piece of paradise. While we readied our place to receive them, my sweetheart helped me by vacuuming.

My day opened with trying something I hadn't tried in close to five years. When you're a hundred pound overweight, getting out of a bathtub becomes a five-alarm eye opener . . . not a pretty sight!



"Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong," (Isaiah 1:16)

I think this may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back in beginning a mindset in preparing myself to begin my weight loss journey. It wasn't long after that, friends at the office joined Weight Watchers and I joined right with them. I was ready.

Today also turned out to be one of the two days this week I made my goal to meet all seven of my monitors nutrients (calories, fat, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, calcium, and sodium). WooHoo!

Yummy Veggies . . . Couldn't ask for a nicer Living the Good Life Challenge!

I began this challenge week as if this were a “freggie” bonus . . . seems I need to listen/read a little better! On Saturday morning, I cut up a fresh pineapple (Yum!), ate two servings (228 grams/8 oz) and made hashbrowns out of a double serving of sweet potato (not a veggie for the purposes of this challenge) to go with my primarily an eggwhite breakfast. I realized by lunchtime, that I’d better keep begin to limit the fruits and starchy veggies, and get up front and personal with veggies I've so come to love.

I find veggies a wonderfully filling food, even more so when served with some protein. Weight Watchers now makes most fresh fruits and vegetables “zero” points (naturally, veggies like peas, corn, and potatoes still have a PointsPlus value). I'm on a mission to eat both light and filling foods, and this Living the Good Life Challenge will undoubtedly be a relatively easy one for me . . . the only reason I may not get all eight veggies in might be due to friends we have staying with us during the next couple weeks.

I think this is the first challenge I've ever had with the vegetable side of what I have come to endearingly call freggies. I love this new word: A beautiful, healthy mix of fruits and vegetables. Perhaps the SparkPeople community will be instrumental in creating a new word in our dictionaries.

Communication is integral to most great workshops. I think the most powerful part of communication might be found in the listening. With good listening, we can be empowered to take appropriate action.

There is such beauty in the fields

Just as SparkPeople and our great teams, friends, and challenges keep us heading in the right direction, I so enjoyed looking back on some of my recent photos, some of which I took with my local church’s photography club. I have Bayside’s InFocus group to thank for inspiring me to link up the word of God with several of my photographs. It’s been a fun 30-day exercise and I thank you for bearing with me.

I happen to have a great love for God’s beautiful nature and thank my Mom for growing some pampas grass (a southern South American grass with tall silvery plumes) in her yard.
