Don’t look back . . . .

Sunday, February 20, 2011

Ever had one of those days when you peacefully reflect on the past. While we focus on the future for our hope, looking back and examining life is good if we can learn and find purpose from the experience and perhaps share that with a good friend or colleague. Being a visual person, I captured my husband’s headlights in the rear view mirror while traveling the other day.

Moses writes, “As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, “Flee for your lives! Don’t look back, and don’t stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains . . . .”” (Genesis 19:17)

Now I’m already enjoying a much healthier future. I have a hard time imagining what it was like to carry an extra 75 lbs. So many positive improvements have taken place since those heavy days: I’m no longer on a sleep apnea machine, my blood pressure, body mass index, and weight are much more closer to normal, and I have put away the cane I sometimes needed for my knee.

May you also experience joy and progress while making healthy improvements in that wonderfully created body you have.

Thank you Evelyn! I really like the way you share a Scripture with your blog. I look forward to reading, even if I don't always comment. I'm amazed at how much better I feel with the 30 or so pounds I've lost. I can also feel when I've gained back a pound or two. Blessings for continued health!

Wonderful bog. Enjoyed your comments about not looking back. We must never look back except to enjoy your past victories and then look forward to those victories still to come.

You ahve come a long way and have greatly improved your health. Was encouraging to me to read this blog and know that I too shall win this battle if I but keep on trying and not give up on myself

It is really great to look back at where we were and then look forward to where we are now and then look forward again to our future for what we want it to be!

Great post! emoticon

Goals for the Winter 5% Challenge

Saturday, February 19, 2011

I so love the enthusiasm expressed by so many great Teddy Bears and Five Percent Challengers this challenge.

I’m on a mission to lose 100 lbs and have just recently reached a 75 lb milestone. My goals for this 5% challenge are:

1 - To get as close to losing 5% (9 lbs) as possible. Being so close to goal, I would be thrilled to lose six pounds, as I love the slow and steady pace I've exhibited by nearing my five-year weight loss journey anniversary later this June. While I record an official Weight Watcher meeting weight (with both food and attire) I expect my unofficial personal morning weight to finally reach the much-awaited 24.9 or lower body mass index in order to be considered a “healthy BMI.”
2 – While exercise remains on the wrong end of a love/hate relationship, I am committed to averaging over 30 minutes a day on a variety of routines with walking being my mainstay.
3 – Eating healthy meals are key to my success. I hope to try foods I haven’t had in a long time or prepared differently. I will continue to track daily and work diligently to fall within most of my major ranges as set by SparkPeople and Weight Watchers when it comes to protein, fat, carbohydrates, calories, fiber, sodium, and calcium. I love that SparkPeople allows us to track all these great nutrients (and more!). I am blessed with a love for water, so it’s not uncommon for me to take in at least a gallon of liquids on most days. I also strive to well exceed five recommended fruits and vegetables a day. Again, diversity will be essential!

Most of all, I'm enjoying this journey! Several of us have used sites like myoneword.org to come up with one word to bring us clarity and focus throughout the year. My word is Joy. This includes its many wonderful derivatives like joyful, joyful and rejoice!

Go Teddy Bears!

I love the slow and steady approach... we are taking it off slowly instead of a drastic quick-loss approach only to gain it back and/or more when we resume normal eating again. Good for you in aspiring to exercising more than 30 minutes everyday! I know you will be getting in lots of fruits and veggies and eating healthy. You will do great with your goals and weight loss! emoticon

Now on Holiday

Saturday, February 19, 2011

My extended holiday destination has arrived. The long drive was much better than I expected in that we each drove a vehicle to Florida. A lot of fun stretches and aerobic chair dancing while in the car and at rest stops. (fun, fun)

My neighbor will be caring for my critters while I’m away. I have an array of nut hatches, chickadees, woodpeckers, blue jays, squirrels, mourning doves, and such coming to my home each day.

". . . He proclaimed a holiday throughout the provinces and distributed gifts with royal liberality." (Esther 2:18)

Enjoy a fine holiday!

I'm getting the boot . . . soon!

Friday, February 18, 2011

With vacation time nearing, I thought I'd share this "boot" from Barker's Island.

“Every warrior’s boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.” (Isaiah 9:5)

It's fun to have vacation plans in the works. You too?

Oh to be Spotless again!

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Oh how good it feels to clean up between that transition period when there is so much dirt about. Before you know it, the street cleaners will be out in full force again. Enjoyed going through the car wash!

Never noticed muti-colored soap before. Cool!

2 Peter 3:14
So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

Hope you're having a great day! If you're traveling, be safe.
