Winter fields declare their beauty in the snow!

Monday, February 14, 2011

The decorative grasses and snow are lovely. With the warmer temperatures, the snow is beginning to recede this week.

"The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field;" (Psalm 103:15)

Happy Valentine's Day!

That is a great picture. Have you looked at some of the open fields around the area and how the ice and wind have made them look like a smooth pane of glass.
I hope spring gets here soon.

Thereís Joy in Finding the Illusion!

Sunday, February 13, 2011

God so richly blesses us with such varying levels of art. I see it all around me . . . sometimes in the simplest of pleasures and forms. While it is God's Word and Holy Spirit that move me, I pray that the images that reach my camera lens honor our Creator by stirring our hearts into action, while we enjoy the beauty around us.

Look again . . . Do you see the Egyptian Princess (or Prince) being sculpted in the mountain of stones?

While I don't feel I've done justice to all that we have, I hope that it deepens and strengthens my faith in a God who has a plan and purpose for my life. The journey is tough at times, but Iím determined, while walking with God, that true joy be experienced! You might say that Iím on a mission (with a whole lot of help!) to ďBe joyful always; pray continually; [and] give thanks in all circumstances, for this is Godís will for [me and] you in Christ Jesus.Ē (1 Thes 5:16-18)

May you find the beauty within your day today!

Although I couldn't find the Egyptian princess in the mountain of rocks, I do look for beauty and joy in everything. Thank you for this reminder to look on the bright side in all things!

The Beauty of a Rose

Saturday, February 12, 2011

After attending the funeral of a friend's mother who had lived a beautiful 102 years of age, we were offered a rose. After the rose no longer held its own in water, I was able to enjoy the petals as they began to wilt. The lines of this rose were quite striking. What a wonderful memory in honor of my good neighbors.

"a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance," (Ecclesiastes 3:4)

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." (Matthew 5:4)

Will you find beauty, joy, or thanks in your day today?

Amazing Power!

Saturday, February 12, 2011

Joy comes in all sizes. Living near a Great Lake means several ships winter here. Hopefully, all our internationals have a visa, or they are unable to leave their anchored ship. Thank goodness we have a Seafarers ministry in the Twin Ports.

"Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go." (James 3:4)

May you also find things that amaze you.

I also continue to remain amazed that much of our life can be reduced to simple zeros and ones -- toggle on, toggle off -- through the wonders of digitizing all that we put on our computer systems. "Beam me up, Scotty" may be here sooner than we think!

There is Joy in Music!

Wednesday, February 09, 2011

My Dadís 87th birthday was celebrated at the two health and rehabilitation/nursing home facilities with the singing of hymns with Christian friends. Music is such joy.

My Dad sings here with Chris's mother:

My cousin Carol accompanies Dad:

One of my classmates, John, sing with Chris:

The whole group at the afternoon sing-a-long:

Jay and I:

Psalm 95:1-2
Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.

What a beautiful day filled with blessings for all who participate. May music bring joy to your ears!

How wonderful to share music and praise to celebrate your dad's birthday in the nursing home! We always celebrate Christmas and my mom's birthday in the nursing home with the family. Sometimes, my sister and I play guitar and my daughter the viola around Christmas. I think it uplifts my mom's spirits to be able to gather together with her family. emoticon
