Joy in God's fruit!

Saturday, February 05, 2011

The blessing of improved health comes when we eat five or more fruits and vegetables every day. What a blessing to have such a wealth of variety for animals of all kind to enjoy! Emphasis on the joy! (smile, smile)

Daniel 4:12
Its leaves were beautiful, its fruit abundant, and on it was food for all. Under it the beasts of the field found shelter, and the birds of the air lived in its branches; from it every creature was fed.

Most recently, pomegranates were a real treat in the marketplace. I've also discovered that my favorite apple is the tart and crispy Pink Lady. For the past two years, I've transitioned to primarily fresh pineapple over canned.

Have you had the pleasure of trying a new fresh fruit or vegetable? If not, please share with me your all-time favorites. Thanks, in advance, for all the great inspiration!

Just had some yummy bing cherries that were on sale at the store...so sweet! Peaches are awesome from our local orchard and every year I dehydrate some (dh loves them). Melons are good too. Sooo many that are yummy! I have tried star fruit and mango but didn't really enjoy them...

I love fruits of all kinds and I keep a wide variety on hand; fresh, frozen, canned and dried. Dried figs, dates, and apricots will take care of a sweet tooth in a hurry. Munching on a crisp apple with or without peanut butter is wonderful. Melons, berries, grapes, bananas, fresh pineapple, kiwi, cherries, pears, oranges, grapefruits...Isn't our Creator so good to give us all these and many more?!!!

Asian pears are fun, but my all time favorites are fresh pineapple, strawberries and watermelon.

More Joy in Breaking Bread

Friday, February 04, 2011

I love the buffet. While it is not for everyone, I love the many choices I can make as well as the quality connections made with friends and loved ones. Here at the Sri Lankan and Indian restaurant in the Twin Cities, I enjoyed the company of a long-time friend from the campus community.

1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

This is my friend's daughter and I getting ready to enjoy the Children's Museum and Sambol Restaurant later in the day:

Are you making quality connections during your opportunities to break bread?

Joy in breaking bread!

Friday, February 04, 2011

Just as the disciples made breaking bread with Christ an extra special time, I find this a special time to make quality connections with a good friend or loved one. A family that prays together, stays together. Here Dad and I prepared for lunchtime together.

So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart. (Acts 2:46)

May you find joy in breaking bread with a good friend or loved one.

Thanks for the nice picture of you and your Dad.
The scene brought back memories of my Dad who passed in my mid twenties. Traesure the days with him...

It's hard to believe my Dad is 87 years old. His face doesn't show it. It's kinda funny how one day I went to visit him at a prior apartment, and a fellow visitor said to me, while at the elevator, I bet you're here to see Ray. I looked a bit perplexed as to how he knew that and he replied to my look . . . "you look just like him." (fun, fun)

I can see where you got that beautiful smile! I've shared "Sunday Dinner" with my Parents almost weekly since my divorce 5 years ago. After my Daddy passed in 09, those dinners became an especially close time for Mom and I.

I'm planning to gradually move in with my Mom over the next couple of months, and daily sharing the evening meal has quickly become a happy part of the transition. Food centered yes, but in a healthy loving way.

Seeking Joy: Change your perspective!

Thursday, February 03, 2011

I found myself in quite pensive in thought today. While taking care of business, I found myself looking to Lake Superior for inspiration. I needed a change of perspective. Fortunately, the lake never fails me.

Luke 21:28
Now when these things begin to occur, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption (deliverance) is drawing near.

Several ships winter in the Twin Ports harbor. It makes the drive around the lake that much more pleasurable.

Where do you go to regroup?

Regroup......That is something I haven't taken the time to do lately. Something I REALLY need to do. I used to go the lake and soak up the sunshine and let its warmth fill me and make me whole. Thanks for reminding me that I need to take the time to do this. emoticon

Joy in God's creation

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

I find such joy in the beauty of the fields. While the pastures are not green this time of year in Northern Wisconsin, their splendor in the snow seems to glorify God's creation.

Luke writes, “If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!” (Luke 12:28)

I am thankful that God promises to meet all our needs (although not all our desires). He truly gives us his best armor through The Word and his unconditional and endless love, mercy, grace, and forgiveness. How truly blessed we are.

What blesses you on this beautiful day?

It was beautiful outside today! The sun was shining and piles of white snow framed the sides of the streets! Your side of the country looks beautiful, also!
