Uncomplicated Nutrition Tracking

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

I need simple. No complex formulas etc. That's why emoticon

1. I signed up on tracking to receive meal suggestions for my personal needs according to Spark.

2. Under add a food, I set up food groupings that are personal to me.
a. Repetitive meals
BREAKFAST-Slim Script w 2% milk
LUNCH-salad greens, chicken breast, TBS cheese, raspberry vinegrette salad dressing, tomato and other raw veggies.
SUPPER-Oatmeal, 2% milk, blueberries
SNACK-
CUSTOM FOOD: Apples, fresh, 1 cup, quartered or chopped
CUSTOM FOOD: Banana, fresh, 0.5 medium (7" to 7-7/8" long)
CUSTOM FOOD: Yogurt, Yoplait Light, Strawberry, 6 oz
CUSTOM FOOD: Quaker Rice Cakes - White cheddar (1 rice Cake), 1 serving

3. Each day I log into nutrition tracking . Where possible I put in one of my food groupings as repetitive meals.
After I have put in all the food groups I can, I look at the summary of calories, carbs, fat, protien and other nutrients below esp. fiber for me.

4. Then I go back to the Spark suggested menus and see if there are any items I can click on that day that would give me the nutrients I still need. And I click on them rechecking the tallies at the bottom of the page.

Persto!. I am done in 10 minutes.

5. Other days I follow the Spark suggested menu for me in less time to plan.

It is only DH and I here and what is health for me is for him too. I make some adjustments for his personal needs.

The nutrition tracker used to make me crazy emoticon but I didn't know how to use it. Tracking sodium has been a real eyeopener for me. I didn't know about the groupings I was copying meals from one day to the next.

I never thought of using the food groupings. I also haven't checked out the SP food plans, either. I think I need to check both of them out and simplify my life!!

I've made food groupings for the most common breakfasts I eat. That really saves me time. I have lots of favorites, too, including my gluten-free foods that I input myself. Tracking is so important to my progress. I really need to do it and I try to make it as easy as possible.

I love the tracker and have added so many favs that it doesn't take long at all. Never used the grouping as I don't eat the same the all the time. I try to keep things mixed up and use some of the recipes on SP. You sure sound like you have a great system going.. Keep up the good work!!!!!

I've never used the "grouping" feature on the nutrition tracking for meals, though I think about it from time-to-time.

Thanks for bringing it back to my attention.

It is definitely worth taking the time to get familiar with the Nutrition Tracker in the beginning of your Spark journey. In my favorites I have also added my Daily Multivitamin and other doctor ordered supplements. It may take a couple of minutes to enter the multivitamin components, but it is well worth the time. Just be sure to add these same nutrients to the things you track. emoticon

Great! I am so used to tracking all the time that if I go a while throughout the day I start to have withdrawls! It is fast and easy if you take the time to figure it out in the beginning and add your favourites. Looks like your eating really great delicious healthy food. emoticon

Spark Ups

Thursday, June 10, 2010

There are some great things to do on Spark.

Right now I am enjoying Dr. Oz Show Fans SP team challenges. Persistant123 has worked with the Dr. Oz challenges to make a fun learning summer challenge. She keeps it going and us learning. The other is 14 Days to Flag Day where you log in if you met your goals for Calories, Carbs and Protein. Do those and you are in sync with working it. You can just put ok or whatever you want in this simple effective accountability.

Another Up is Team meet ups. Right now the Fit Buckeye Fans SP team is planning one for June 19 from 9-1 at Lakeview Park, lorain OH for OSU fans and anyone in the area who wants to come. There will be Spark packets, walk, coffee, tea and a potluck "eat well" at 11, where you bring something to share. More on agenda, come and see. Hope you all come.

What are your Spark Ups that enrich your lifestyle?

Fat Chance

Monday, June 07, 2010

First I will apologize this once to all poets for any ditty I write.

FAT CHANCE
Fat molecules are living things,
So ergo can they think?
Do they wait there when I'm on diet plateau,
Hoping my journey to sink?

Are they bouncing around in fat glee
Thinking that I've made no real change?
That I'm on another fad diet...
My lifestyle I didn't rearrange?

Well "SHRINK" you ornery fat cells!
I'm sparkin' my way to my goal
Holding true to food-fitness lifestyle
I will break this rotten plateau.

With green tea, cardio, and tracking
Steadfastly through weeks of frustration,
My lifestyle will beat down fat cooties.
Finally the scale'll show goal realization.

Temptation Poem

Thursday, May 20, 2010

Temptation

I walked through the social hall today,
Wondering if I could do it,
Could I resist the curds and whey,
Or would I dive right in to it?

I helped in the clubhouse kitchen
Stirred the pot and set out the tray,
Then I was alone in the cooking room,
No one would see me betray.

But Spark friends were there beside me,
To support my lifestyle change,
Their spirits enveloped to guide me.
My gluttony they’d rearrange.

I heeded the words from their blogs,
The advice they sparked in their post,
I calmed and walked the Spark path.
To keep self-respect is the most.
