Famous Lady quote....Martha Washington...

Saturday, April 03, 2010

I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition.

...or in modern day terms...FAKE IT 'TIL YA FEEL IT!!! I have found that when I am in an "off" mood - if I make myself smile and talk about uplifting things - that "off" mood quickly disapates.
Thanks for the reminder!

3/24/2010 Plan for your streak....

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

SP allows us to check our streaks. They encourage us to incorporate streaks in our 28 day plan. Duh. I looked at my SP streaks-- post, afterwards. Now I realize I must pre PLAN for my streaks. Do the plan Then I can look and see how I've done. Not just let them happen haphazardly.

For my streak plans in nutrition, fitness, and positive living, I need to have a good attitude and plan to be tough through the time I set for the proposed streak.

* I need to prepare the plan for my streak time period.
*Then I need consistency of action in doing the plan.
*Finally I can use that momentum to extend the time period of the streak if I wish.

Plan your winning streak!!!
Winning may not be everything, but losing has little to recommend it.
- Dianne Feinstein

Picture yourself vividly as winning, and that alone will contribute immeasurably to success.
- Harry Emerson Fosdick

The secret to keeping winning streaks going is to maximize the victories while at the same time minimizing the defeats.
- John Lowenstein,
in Voice of Baseball by Bob Chieger

Looking at streaks in a new way.....Plan well....Do the plan consistently....Evaluate the streak to extend or revise. Then Reward!

I can now eat one piece of candy.....

Monday, March 22, 2010

First to report I put back on the 3 lbs. I lost, but I am not worried as I know I am on a path to healthy living. Have been doctoring my bronchial funk with 7 up etc. And barely moving. So the pound imps saw me as a great place to land. But I will shoo them away this week.

Now to 3 of the things I have learned and how SP makes me positive even now...+3 now...

1. emoticon I can now eat 1 piece of candy. This is huge. (Much huger than the average size person who straight away diets and loses umpteen pounds and exercises umpteen hours. Those cheerful idols are average and don't know weight in the foxhole struggle. Notice, I call these easy-to-lose people average, not ideal or normal or lucky or skinnytobegin. I am so tired of portrayals of fat people negatively, that I choose to call those not fat as "average". No idol worshiping here.) SP got me to this point by educating me so much on nutrient dense food.

2. emoticon I use a mantra in social situations. I prefer the word "one" from the Harvard studies cited in Woman's World 3/29/2010 that " repeating the same word activated the parasympathetic nervous system." (see article pg.34. Anyhow it helps get through situations where I need to calm down my rush to food. I am trying not to use flight or avoidance of social situations. (and it fools people who wonder why you are sitting or standing there with that silly a-- grin on your face.)....you are smug within yourself saying "one" or "om" or some other meditative word to help you cope. SP got me to this point rereading in The Spark Cornerstone:Fitness, Building Block: Stress Management.

3. emoticon I can do some exercise. I am walking the dog, trying Curves, and reading about other Sparkers running races, etc. and enjoying vicariously. In my recent evaluation at Spark, they suggested I Track my food. My food tracing is ok, the SP Robot is probably confused. 'Cause when I log in my 30 walking, there is no where to deduct my rest of the day sedentary life. See most folks start with active life and add to it. My prob is I start sedentary. Should be a deduct on the Fitness tracker for that as I know I'm not the only one. But Now SP has me doing more and gradually more activity and fitness through the positive influence of other Sparkers who do and write about doing. Thanks Spark Friends.

3 small steps from SP reported here today....to be cont.... emoticon

What an awesome three steps! Eating just one piece of choclate was huge for me too - as addicted to the stuff as I am. Now I eat one, and am happy. I have a box from several weeks ago I bought right after Valentine's Day that I am eating one piece every day or so. You are so on the right track - keep it up! I'll be looking forward to reading about your other steps!

Great job! I agree about eating one piece of candy. It is a big deal. There are certain trigger foods (chips, being one) that once I start, I can't stop. So, I'm really proud of you being able to eat just one piece of candy!

Finding Resources for my healthy journey....

Monday, March 15, 2010

I first jumped into SparkPeople.com and loved it. I started tracking, posting, etc. It took me maybe 6 months to see what was on site and how to use it. emoticon

then I started reading more health, food, inspirational articles from outside sources and putting them into posts with links. I enjoyed sharing them with Spark Friends.

Now I am going into deep structure knowledge of Spark People and realize the finest information sources are right here on SP. My current favorite place to go is Healthy Lifestyle. It has lots of things. Resource categories gives me lots of information. A favorite of mine is Lifestyle Centers. SP says "Our Lifestyle Centers are in-depth guides to a variety of life stages and interests. With articles written by SparkPeople’s experts and support from a vibrant Community of people like you, you’ll learn how to make healthy habits fit into your lifestyle—not the other around."
There are:
Healthy Kids & Families
Backyard Gardening
Maintaining Your New Weight
College Living
Financial Fitness
Green Living
Men's Health
Natural Beauty
Senior Health
Women's Health

These are a great way to get power for yourself. Right on Spark People.
emoticon

Now if they'd only come up with a place I could click on to read SparkPeople emails when down. I am now getting them in my inbox again. Rah. Thanks Tech. I still thing a simple check box to report to tech would save on wear and tear.
