Weigh In Wednesday

emoticon I lost 3 more of the re-regained pounds. Only 2 to go to get to start the regained loss journey.
I have broken this down into small goals that fit my erratic journey. Thanks to all who have given me advice and encouraged me. It helps.
Growth is an erratic forward movement: two steps forward, one step back. Remember that and be very gentle with yourself.
Julia Cameron quotes from

Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can't practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage.

ONEKIDSMOM told me no two pounds are alike - that we learn something new with each cycle. I like that idea. While we do 'dance' and side-step sometimes we are always moving.
Here's to moving forward!

With Age Focus on the Body Shifts from Appearance to Function

Sunday, August 07, 2011

"With Age, Focus on the Body Shifts from Appearance emoticon
to Function emoticon"
"In study, exercise's biggest psychological boost came from improved health and ability, not attractiveness By Kathleen Doheny HealthDay Reporter"
""And this study confirmed that as satisfaction with appearance and function grew, symptoms of depression declined. But the mental-health boost was even greater with perceived gains in bodily function than with changes in appearance, the study found." SP Health News.

This is so HUGE. Most of us oldies realize the importance of body functioning. And appreciation and reverence for what our bodies can do. Forget that Helen Mirren has the sexiest body, the rest of us accept being normal. I tried a bathing suit on yesterday and
emoticon, so much for appearance. Give me the ones with a little skirt as the inside thighs of over 70's should only be considered in the functional sense.

Function is important to keep us out of depression they say, and so does our computer time Sparking.

Most of us are at the age to afford a gym or exercise equipment finally. BUT our bodies have to be able to function to use them. On exercise, just do it and then keep on doing it.

.What fits your busy schedule better, exercising one hour a day or being dead 24 hours a day?
Randy Glasbergen, Cartoonist

Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness.
Edward Stanley, Earl of Derby (1826-93), British statesman. The Conduct of Life, address at Liverpool College, 20 Dec 1873.

Exercise and temperance can preserve something of our early strength even in old age.
Cicero (106 BC-43 BC) Roman orator and statesman

What would you rather do, walk and chat with your grandmother 30 min. 3 X a week or visit her in a nursing home several hours on Sunday and Wed? Up to you........

emoticon emoticon AWESOME blog! I agree 1000%. At my age I'm certainly not out to impress anyone, I just want to be able to get around easier. As long as I am able to improve my mobility I am happy. A little better weight loss would make me happier, but I know that as my mobility increases my weight will decrease. I'm for sure not out to win any races!

Thanks for the great words of wisdom and the humorous cartoons. Great thoughts to begin the day with.

Loved your blog, all so true! I saw that article, too, and yes, it is more important for me to be able to walk/run a 5K than to wear a size 8. We can focus on the positives and work toward improvement in others.
Thanks for the smiles, loved your blog and selection of cartoons!

Loved this blog - and I'm right behind you on the calendar so definitely agree that function takes precedence over appearance at this point in life - perhaps a more powerful motivator, too!!

Enjoyed reading your post. So true about the need to focus on function than appearance. It is also harder when you're older, but the need is greater at this stage of my life. So keep working on living the healthy life.
