I had my biopsy

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

I had my biopsy on Thursday, July 23rd. The MD said he saw some inflammation but was not sure and sent off the biopsy of my duodenum. I received the results on Monday, July 27th. It was positive for Celiac disease. It was considered moderate. The gastroenterologist instructed me to continue with the gluten free diet and follow up asap

I go see my doc on Monday for the blood test results. I've now been on a GF diet for about 3 weeks and I feel better than I even have. I've not been officially diagnosed yet, but all the signs/symptoms are certainly leaning in that direction. Are you doing your own baking?

At my local grocery store we have a dietitian who can help people find the gluten-free items and there is a section that is gluten-free . I wish you the best.

Wow. A few of my friends have suffered from Celiac Disease. Isn't that the one where you cannot tolerate gluten? It makes for tricky eating in this country where gluten is omnipresent. But it can be done! You will be a champ at choosing gluten-free foods and preparing them in no time! Hope you start to feel your best soon.

Gluten Free

Friday, May 22, 2009

I am now gluten free for almost a month. Feel so much better but harder to find foods I like. I really miss sandwiches and pasta. I tried the corn pasta and it is wonderful. I have always loved a good sandwich, so that is the hard part.

Sami's bakery in Tampa, Fl. You can order online.Millet and millet and flax seed bread. They have rolls roo! They call them hamburger buns but, you know how that is! Very good! Best bread I have ever had! Not bad in calorie department either! Check it out. My husband is not gluten free and he eats my bread every day! He has stopped buying "regular" bread and only eats mine.

I went wheat-free (not gluten-free) last year for about 6 months but it didn't seem to help me much. Along the way, I had some gluten-free stuff but the "bread" they have was really awful IMHO and for me, toast for breakfast is a mainstay of my diet so I ate spelt bread and loved it. In fact, I loved it so much that when I added wheat back into my diet, I've continued to eat spelt bread. I also really love the kamut and spelt pastas. Another idea is to try rice pastas.

Also, some restaurants other gluten-free items. In Canada, Pizza-Pizza offers gluten-free crust so you might want to do some research on that.

Good luck.

Taking it one day at a time

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

I continue to be very motivated. I am exercising every day. I am so scared to miss a workout.. I am afraid I will stop if I miss. I notice I have more energy. I however was so tired when I worked out this morning. We are going out of town this week but I made sure we had a hotel with gym equipment. I am on the eliptical every day for 30 minutes with the incline at 100%... Its a hard workout for me but it will pay off..
