spark to 5k!

Thursday, February 10, 2011

today was my first week day 1 training for 5 k...did 10 minute warm up then Walking & Jogging Program. my friend has inspired me to try this. I've been doing different workout dvds at home but anything with core work or situps pulls my incision from my c section 4 months ago. I've had the program article bookmarked for months so i decided to try this since this wouldn't hurt my incision.
The most difficult part of the workout was entertaining my 4 month old son! thanks rose for getting me off the couch!

venting.......

short version... ive been married 5 yrs this october. we just had a little boy this past october. Ive been going to a community college for the past 4 yrs part time taking classes and have been on a waiting list for 3 yrs for the radiology technician program. My husband and i agreed that we would have a baby before clinicals instead of waiting for me to be completely done with college.

After we got pregnant last yr, a month later i found out i got in the program last yr. I had to postpone to this yr because of the baby being born in the middle of the semester. we always said oh we will talk about clinicals and babysitting later doesnt apply now. now that it is getting closer i will be getting a letter in march for orientation and things to get prepared for clinicals....
Tonight my husband and i got into a discussion basically saying there is no money for day care and he doesnt know how I could go to school ...
i love being a wife, mommy to nathan, and i do love my job being a massage therapist. Im not as busy now as i was so not as much money coming in. I almost feel like the past 4 yrs of classes, time studying, and money have been a waste of time. I know nathan is my main concerned but it just kind of sucks that Im not going to finish this program. I started crying for no reason....i know things always happen for a reason...
anyways my husband doesnt know why im upset not finishing school.

thanks everyone... i did apply for a pell grant tonight. so we'll see what happens. we talked about it again and its almost that he doesnt want me to go to school. he says he does but he keeps saying well what about this or that. im not sure how the program is. we have a meeting march/april about what hospital we go to and how many days it is. i remind myself and him that other people have a harder time than we are right now.

Maybe check out care.com for babysitters in your area? They've been screened and I believe their rates are posted.

Check out all the options for available help, then discuss them with your husband and go from there. Right now things may seem impossible but you've come this far and shouldn't give up on your goal. ((((((hugs))))) and prayers for you and your family.

I'm sorry that you're struggling with this dilemma Erin. I know how hard you've worked, with attending classes & working, & all! This has to be devestating!

Is it possible for you to take a student loan to fund school & babysitting fees so you can finish school? Or can you attend evening & weekend classes so Mark can watch Nathan while you attend classes? Please don't chuck school all together! Talk w/a counselor at school & see what options you have! Is there a daycare at school you can utilize? Can you discuss this w/your parents & see if they wouldn't help you w/daycare expenses?

School is an investment for your future...please consider options before you totally give up! You don't want to regret not finishing...

I know you'll do what's best! Good luck my friend!

im sure my parents can help babysitting but i kind of feel guilty, They have been helping me when i go to a clients house for a massage but thats not all day and only 1 or 2 days a week.... i was able to pay for books and school before on my own. the college had a program to take out 1/3s during the semester.
then i wonder how can i study, work, be a wife and mommy at the same time, i dont know how single mothers do all of this on their own,

Definitely look into all the options for child care. Maybe there's another mom you know who you could leave your son with on the days you have clinicals, and then you could take her kids on the other days. You know, switching off. It might take some doing to make sure it's equal, but that would basically be free childcare.

Good luck figuring it out. I'm hoping to go back to school soon so that I can up my GPA and get into a Masters program. I want to become a licensed psychologist. The problem is always money, of course, but besides that there's my age; I'm turning 35 this year, and J and I want to have children. I'm still trying to figure out how I'll be able to manage being a mom and going to school.

I'm sorry to hear this! I can empathize with you...I've been trying to finish school on and off for years. It's hard, I have 2 young boys and have to work since we are struggling. I actually start tomorrow and I'm not sure what I'm going to do for books yet. It's hard to feel like you're stuck when you're trying to better yourself and your family. Hang in there...I know where you're coming from and I hope something works out for you emoticon

Yes, I agree, look into all options...especially at the school you go to for daycare...leave no stone unturned! And just because you may not finish on the time-table you planned, doesn't mean you never will. I totally "get" your disappointment, but try to stay positive. If it is what you really want, I truly believe you will find a way to make it happen eventually.

Are there any options for day care that you can explore? Something available at the school or perhaps grants you could apply for that would pay for child care. If you haven't already, you could check with your school - they might be able to direct you to affordable resources. You have put a lot of time and effort into getting into the program, and I sincerely hope that you will be able to find some way to manage it. I hope things work out for you.

my little boy is growing

Friday, December 17, 2010

he was born october 22.... 7.8 lbs & 21 inches....At his drs appointment yesterday he is 11.7 lbs and 22.5 for 7 weeks. I took him to my in home massage appointment today, he was so good. my client wants him to come to her house :)... it was cute he was ooing and aahing as the music was playing. probably not the reason for the music but he was calm during the massage..... he is napping still from the car ride home so i should take a nap too :).
I did another 2 mile walk yesterday and planning on it tonight! my legs are so sore but thats a good thing...... my clothes are starting to feel a little bigger! sometimes nathan wakes up during the dvd so i hold him thats my weight part of the exercise !

Yippee for clothes feeling bigger! Since I started doing Leslie's dvds, I'm not seeing as much progress on the scale but hopefully I'm losing fat and gaining muscle because my clothes feel looser too!

Awwww....Nathan is adorable! And getting so big! You should be proud Erin! I know how hard a new mom has to work just to keep on going! There's not much time for you! I'm glad you're able to find the time to exercise & take time for you! You're worth the effort!

should be sleeping but felt guilty...

Thursday, December 16, 2010

I should be sleeping since the baby is sleeping but I was on here reading blogs about everyone exercising. I felt so guilty I didnt do my leslie dvd today. So i just turned it on at 11:30 at night and did 2 miles of the 5 on her fat burning dvd. it was only 25 minutes but I figured its better than anything. You can keep wondering what its going to be like to lose weight or you can do something about it. I at least started doing something about it. I do like seeing the scale going down everytime I get on it!
THis week has been a struggle trying to find time to do everything. Sometimes i have to remind myself to eat. I started doing my in home massage appointments (sometimes i can take my baby with me) then taking care of the baby, and trying to find time to do the laundry.. .granted i wasnt even gone 3 hrs today going to an appointment but doing everything else i took a nap when my husband came home. I feel kind of bad since we didnt really spend to much time today for a conversation. Tomorrow is another busy day Im just going to have to try to find time for my dvd.

Don't be so hard on yourself! Two miles is great. Even if you just do 1 mile or even squeeze in 5 minutes, that's something. Instead of feeling guilty, try to focus on what you have accomplished.

CONGRATS on squeezing in 25 min of walking! That's phenomenal with all you've got going on Erin! Please be kind to yourself! You've been through alot these past couple of months!

You're body is in a process of healing.
You've just had a baby!
You're adjusting to being a new mom!
It's the holidays!
You've just started back to work!

Could life be anymore stressful??? emoticon

GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK! Take care of yourself! Just focus on the basics for now! Make certain you're eating properly & getting enough rest. Squeeze in the exercise when ya can...but don't do it at the expense of your health. It's not worth it!

You're gonna be okay, mommy! Hang in there!

I think it's great you did some of the DVD. Everytime we move it makes a difference. Even if it's not as long as usual. Good job. We can not stop working out because the old habits will come back. emoticon

3 days walked 9 miles YEAh for leslie dvd's :) and for aol party hits

Sunday, December 12, 2010

I may be pushing this a bit.. nathan is 7 weeks old. i just started working again (very little). I had in home massage appointments yesterday and today. Plus I have been walking 3 miles for the past 3 days of the leslie 5 mile burn! it goes by so fast. today i was able to do the dvd while my boys where sleeping on the couch together. The music definitely helps it go by fast. Tomorrow I hope to do 4 miles of it as long as nathan is sleeping or I may break it up 2 miles in the am and 2 miles in the evening. considering the snow storm coming and i dont really go anywhere with him yet it just may help the day go by faster... if anyone hasnt tried the aol music its great. i use the party songs. it has old and new pop music but it has ton of other music. hope everyone had a great weekend!
