optimism ....

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

i have never really dieted before ... i've been careful of what i eat for days or weeks or months ... and i've gone on crazed exercise binges ... but really truly, i've never been on a diet .... so this feels a little bit like a diet to me ... when i'm trying to have the right amount of calories, fat, carbs and protein .... i've never kept track ... and luckily, i kind of like it .... it feels methodical and well planned ... and not all depriving like what i imagine a "diet" is in my mind ...

so ... i like it that i have a goal number ... i'm glad that i have a goal date ... and i'm glad i have a plan to get there ....

all this, even though i didn't seem to lose a single pound this week ... weighed the same today as i did last wednesday ... which makes me think next wednesday might be quite successful, cause i know i'm following the rules i've set for myself ...

Great Attitude! The scale isn't always are friend, that is why it is important to measure our success off the scale too (like eating right, exercising, positive mood). Our ultimate goal is weight loss; but, getting healthy and knowing we can continue after we reach that magical number is just as important!

Eat less, move more! You CAN do it!

i've always been a pretty good exerciser ... i liked exercise when i fit it in ... but now, i write it on my calendar ... it is a plan ... it is set ... i don't have the "i can't fit it in" excuse cause it is set and everything else has to fit in around it ... the only day i've not gotten this to work yet is on sunday .... i need to get up and exercise before church ... but i have trouble getting us all to church on time ... can't imagine throwing a trip to the gym into an already busy morning .... and then the rest of sundays just somehow get eaten up by other stuff .... so ... six days of exercise when i'm trying for seven .... i was relieved today, monday morning, to be back on track ...

When I schedule it, I'm more likely to do it too. It's amazing how we schedule things for everything else, but don't always take the time to schedule what we need to do for ourselves.

Six days out of seven is great! I agree with Sundays...I don't have time before church! Love that is on the calendar and cannot be ignored or forgotten!

Have little snacks before you get hungry is a great plan. If I don't have snacks during the day, I am starving at dinner and I continue to be hungry even after I eat.

ate a giant unhealthy dinner last night ... came home and looked it up on the internet .. oh the calories ... oh the fat ... oh the carbs ... darn ....
but i got up and exercised this morning ... still on the exercise every day track .. so that's some consolation ....
i think i need to look up menus before we go out to dinner ... but since we didn't know, i couldn't ... so, no more of that don't know thing ... make a plan, look it up, stick to it .....

restaurants seem like they are fighting against me .... what does everyone else do? try to forego restaurants? or you have some trick when you do go?

You didn't punish yourself and you moved on, great job? As far as restaurants go, I plan ahead and read the menu online. If that's not an option, choose foods that are grilled or broiled. Skip sauces and dressings and get them on the side. Don't be afraid to ask questions about preparation. Order extra veggies. There are several articles on the site that help with eating out.

Also, if you know you are going out ahead time, plan your calories for the day, accordingly. Or,add in some extra cardio. But, if you blow one meal, it really doesn't matter in the grand plan. It isn't all or nothing!

Have a great weekend!
