    I think it depends on how someone wants their body to look. I love both - I strength trained with a personal trainer for 3 years. He changed it up every time so I never knew what to expect. My husband didn't like how muscular my arms got. Now I run. My shape is definitely a lot different - I am more petite. Also, running is A LOT cheaper and fits in my schedule better.

    Lifting will definitely give you the definition & rev up your metabolism . . . but I like the challenge of running. Planning for a goal, working the plan . . . but it is harder to squeeze in the STwith the running.

Kettlebell Competition video

This is a video with clips of our kettlebell teams' competion. The Biathlon is 2 parts: jerk press and snatch. Each exercise is 10 minutes with 1 change of hands permitted. In this video, only the jerk press is being shown. Each of us won either 1st or 2nd place for our weight class. Men must use 2 kettlebells for the jerk press. My husband is using two 16kg bells (each weighs 35 pounds). I am using a 12kg bell (26 pounds) and the other women on our team are using an 8kg bell (18 pounds). www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwULtRn_6Jg

  


My Kettlebell Competition

Last weekend, October 29, I participated in the 2011 World Kettlebell Competition in Chicago. There are competitors from all over the world who travel to compete. I participated in the Women's Biathlon and first ever Pentathlon (women and men compete). For my weight class and bell size, I won 2nd place in the Biathlon. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPqKJVHnvd0

    There are 5 minutes break between each exercise. There are only so many reps you must complete in each exercise. If you go over the required number, you don't get credit. There is some strategy to choosing bell size for each exercise. I focused on the judges finger clicking the button. If he clicked it, then my rep counted. I just tuned out everyone else for the most part. The biathlon was where my real challenge was. 10 minutes with one arm switch is very taxing. I watch the clock for the entire biathlon because I need to make the whole 10 minutes. Timing is everything. I usually pace myself to one move every 5 to 6 seconds. I can't wait to compete again. I had ripped my hands open on the first exercise of the Pentathlon. I was so excited to compete, I didn't feel the pain.

    The last 6 minutes must be pretty tough! How do you focus with everyone watching? I did a bench press competition once. I didn't do quite as well as when I am alone with my trainer - I went faster so I didn't lift as many.

    In the Pentathlon, there are 5 exercises for 6 minutes each. You may switch arms whenever. You get points for the bell size you use and how many reps you do.
In the Biathlon, there are 2 exercises: snatch and jerk press. Each exercise is 10 minutes long and you may only switch hands once. You get credit for how many reps you do. Only perfect form reps are counted. Form is very strict in Kettlebell sport.

    That was cool - so, am I correct in understanding that the person who lifts the heaviest kettleball correctly the most number of times wins? And, it doesn't matter which arm?

Christian is 10 years old. He has brain cancer. His parents have been going through a lot in the past few months. To cheer Christian up, they created a facebook page for him. Its called Christian's Crusaders. I will add the link. Christian's birthday is coming up. I'd like to ask anyone who reads this to just send him a birthday card.
