Portion sizes

I'm now starting in stage 2, where we are to measure our portions. What an amazing difference this is to me! I used to eat a whole bowl of cereal. Way more than the 1 cup portion. This morning I measured out one cup. I thought there is no way this is going to fill me up, but what a surprise when it did! I've noticed this too with ice cream. A 1/2 cup doesn't seem like much, but it really does satisfy my sweet tooth and I am satisfied with it. I know all the water I'm drinking is helping to fill me up, so I simply don't need a bigger portion. As my body gets used to smaller portions, that's what will satisfy me. I'm using the smaller salad plates out of our dishes too. The "regular" meal plates are just huge!
I am learning so much from SP and and feeling GREAT!

    Glad to hear the measuring and portion sizing is getting easier. It was hard for me to get the hang it at first and now I hard use my measuring cups. My body also tells me when I've had enought. Thanks to water and fruits and vegetables for snacks, I feel fuller longer and don't eat as much when it comes to regular meals.

Sounds like you are off to a great start!

    Portions are one of the hardest things I face because I have it in my head I need more, but you are right, one portion usually does satify. sounds like you have it all under control. Good luck and keep up the good work!!

    Great job! I have not started to measure my portions yet but I hope I have the same success. Right now I know my portions are way off!!!

    Well done. I too noticed that I didn't need to eat that much. After 2 weeks in I had one of my meals that I would eat alot before and even though it was within my calorie limit, it was just too much and I haven't wanted to have that much again.

A Better Fit

So looking at the scale I've only lost 9 lbs. (as of this past Monday, I weigh myself on Mondays). Doesn't seem like much. However, today I put on a vest that I couldn't fit into last winter. Today it fit with room to spare! Woo hoo! I also have 2 pairs of jeans that are now too big and require a belt. Oh, what a great feeling that is! Still hard for me to believe that 9 little pounds make such a big difference. It gives me another surge of motivation to keep up the hard work. :)

  It IS amazing how motivating baggy clothes can be! Good for you for losing 9 pounds! Imagine carrying around 2 5 pound bags of sugar...that's about the 9 pounds you lost!

You are doing great! Keep focusing on your goals and enjoy wearing some new clothes!

It's all in the timing

One of my main saboteurs in weight loss has been eating late at night. My kids are in bed by 8:30-9:00 and after that is "me" time. But I am winning this battle! What I've been doing the past few months has been to go workout on the Wii Fit at that time. And now, since joining Spark, that time is also when I get on here. I am using my time wisely!
Last week, my small group at church made the vision collages as described in the Spark start up. I posted that collage on my freezer door, right next to the door handle. It's at my eye level. I have to say it's been a great thing as it does keep me from eating late at night. It's my reminder of "not to go there."

The thing I've never really completely given over to God is my weight. I've prayed for good health and healing over the years, but never help with my weight. I have to stop worrying because "each day has enough trouble of it's own" and ask God to help me. I'm so thankful for the support of my "church ladies" and seeing things from a Biblical perspective. God created my body and I need to keep it in better shape!

I lead a small group Bible study for ladies at my church. Last week we started the book, "Bod4God" by Steve Reynolds. It's more about lifestyle changes than an actual diet. Which I really like. There are 11 ladies, including me. The book is about tailoring a lifestyle health plan individually.
