this week was full of foolish things i did. without hydration, and having to cut my run short. on my 7 mile run, i ran over half of it on a trail, and i haven't done hardly any trail running...it was much harder, so i walked about a mile. running mid day when it's the hottest (it's been cool in the mornings, so i kinda forget how much it heats up later). i've had equipment malfunctions.
on the up side, i've learned a lot. i choose to take the view that i'm eliminating possibilities, and honing in on what will make me -ready next month.
tomorrow starts a new week, full of chances to get it right. and eliminate more possibilities.

i missed my bike ride yesterday, so i went for a shorter one this afternoon. 4.5 mile run, 2 mile walk, and 8 miles on the bike. it was a good day. the weather is turning, so i have to adjust my schedule. this will be my first fall running. i'm continuing to learn!

it's been 3 days since the fire started in our county. 22,000 acres have burned, 60 homes are gone, lots of livestock lost. i've only heard of one injury so far, a firefighter sustained minor burns. it took 2 days to get the fire 25% contained. it will be a while before it's fully under control.
in the midst of the loss and devastation, the generosity of our community, and our state, has been overwhelming. there are two clothing banks fully stocked in the towns impacted by the fire. folks from the other side of the mountains are driving many miles to bring donations, help evacuate livestock, and are offering to come help with the aftermath. people have donated so much water and food to take care of the firefighters, they're asking us to stop. my tears are always ready to overflow, both at the staggering loss, and the overwhelming giving heart of all those who are pitching in...with donations, elbow grease (and lots of sweat!), money, food, encouragement, and anything they have to offer. it is heartbreaking and heartwarming.
the air quality is too bad for outdoor running, so that's hampering my half-marathon plan, but i'm hoping it will work out anyway. i'll do some indoor jogging in place..i know it's not the same, but it's my only option....i'd have to drive a very long way to find clean air, right now. my eating plan is faltering a bit....stress tends to make me eat less, but i'm hoping that, also, will work itself out. i know things shouldn't get in the way of exercise, but even more deeply, i believe things shouldn't get in the way of loving people. this crisis will pass, and i'll be back on track...if i lose some ground, it truly is worth it, because i know i will get there, eventually.
for my praying sparkfriends, our community appreciates your prayers....it's going to be a long road to recovery for a lot of families.

on july 15, i posted a blog about maintenance, and how i was going to increase my calories and see what happened. it's been a very challenging time...convincing myself to eat MORE when i want to LOSE WEIGHT, but it's actually working. i've lost 2 lbs, which isn't a lot, but it proves to me i'm on the right track for my journey. i had my hubby hide the scale away until september, but i just needed to see what was happening, and i'm glad i did. i'll keep plugging along.....
