5K my way

Friday, March 01, 2013

So as of today I'm 36 years and 1 week old and I've been hacking away at a 5K for 2 weeks. I did it today in 40:41 (walking / running of course). My goal is to get it in under 38 minutes by the end of March. I get horrible shin splints but for my birthday I went to a running store, had my gait analyzed, got new shoes and insoles. Even some new compression socks. I'm doing this because I think I may be the only personal trainer in history who can't run. So this year I can at least try.

Birthday weekend and surprise visit from MOM!!

Thursday, February 21, 2013

HELP!!!!!! Just when I thought I had the birthday weekend under control, the BF comes home with my MOTHER! All the way from St. Louis! Oh and did I mention we're getting nasty snow right now. I've already planned my food and drinks for the weekend, (thinking meh, it's only 3, why make a huge deal) but now I have to play hostess and tour guide. Taking her to all of the places I've wanted to go but I'm not prepared to turn them down now. What do I do?!?! Being loved is tricky.

Happy birthday!! Enjoy your weekend with your Mom! Don't go overboard with your eating, but don't miss out on anything!

Can you look online at the menus of the places that you will be going, so that you can make the best choices possible before you even get there? That way you won't be tempted by what you see/smell. Maybe share a meal with someone instead of eating the whole dinner yourself? Or go ahead and ask for a to-go box and put half of it away as soon as it arrives? I did that two weekends ago. I love this cajun chicken pasta at a local restaurant, but the calories are outrageous! I put half of it away in the to-go box as soon as it got to the table. I asked for it while I was ordering. They were super nice about it. I'm sure that get weird requests all the time, and that one is not so weird. I brought it home and had it for the next day's
lunch. It was overboard for one day's meal, but it fit in with my calories for two days.

Is your Mom active? Maybe you could set up a class at the gym for both of you or just treadmills side-by-side. :) I'm sure your Mom wants the best for you, and that she wouldn't want you to stress about being a hostess and ruin your progress so far.
And if she isn't the type of Mom who wants the best for you, YOU stick up for yourself and get your exercise in even though she is visiting. Get up really early and do a video exercise before she gets up.

I'm sure you will make it work. Enjoy your weekend! Let us know how it turns out and how you did. Inquiring minds want to know! LOL

Happy birthday! Sounds like this is not the most welcome surprise - but I'm sure she loves you and is looking forward to spending your special day together. Good luck.

Restart - Lent

Friday, February 15, 2013

Today I'm going to accurately log ALL FOODS AND DRINKS CONSUMED!! And I'm going to continue to do so EVERYDAY for a week. (How convenient that that's my 36th.) I've decided to give up caloric denial for Lent. Granted it's Friday, but I'm also not Catholic. lol. I think my biggest problem has been Tequila after work and not logging it. We don't eat out very much anymore and when we do it's something that does in fact have trackable calories. My food scales are in working order and all of my measuring cups and spoons are clean. I even have a shot glass that shows .50 fl oz, 1 fl oz, and mine... 1.5 fl oz.
It's not going to be hard, it just needs to be done. And I can totally do it. Here we go. emoticon

All in a mornings work

Friday, January 22, 2010

I killed it today. I woke up at 6 frantic about what I was gonna do for a workout today (today is my guaranteed Spin day w/ Kelly K but I called too late yesterday and ended up #2 on the waiting list. Damn.) so had my coffee (black)and got my meals together for the day.
7am I decided I was going to do a cardio workout from the ChaLEAN Extreme program. I was in such a zone I pushed it out and made it through the ab workout. YES!!! 8:15am
OK I'm gonna eat breakfast and go to Tybee Y and use the elliptical. I grabbed my oatmeal out of the cabinet reached over to the other cabinet to get a bowl and the phone rang. Islands YMCA... I'm in.
8:18am Ate breakfast - McCann's Steel quick cooking Oats, 1 scoop whey protein powder, 1 tsp. unsalted butter (yeah I said it BUTTER) 1 tsp. cinnamon and a banana.
8:27am padded bike shorts, fresh sports bra, fresh socks, quick log into SP to enter my first workout, fresh towel, refill 2 water bottles, deodorant, headband
8:35am out the door to the Y.
9:05am on bike #1.
10:07am Ready to take on the world.
Unfortunately the rest of my day was uneventful except for the fact that the tapeworm I must have been harboring in my guts earlier in the week was not as ravenous as it had been. I actually stuck to the meals I planned for myself.

Somebody say, WORD!
