Got a plan & 'DO THE RIGHT THING'...one of the first steps to developing a healthy lifestyle of eating..it is realistic and I am accountable since I have started with SPARK PEOPLE!!! emoticon

Charting my food intake on SPARK NUTRITION GUIDE
emoticon(I chose a plan for heart health) It keeps me accountable.
emoticonThe thing I love about it is that I can see each day by doing the tally of each food item. I see what I am missing out on in my nutrition and make it up by eating those food choices. I am hopeful as I walk through the grocery isle knowing that the foods I put in my cart are those healthy choices!!!

emoticon emoticon emoticonFoods that give me the nutrition I need to be fit; fresh vegetables and fruits plus other healthy foods... emoticon
emoticon emoticon emoticonFRUIT SALAD ANYONE. emoticon

(Chapter Four ~ Made To Crave)

It is important to have these friends to:
~ Listen
~ Be there for me
~ Help me remember why I am doing this and what I hope to accomplish in the long run.

I believe this kind of help is beneficial to me for my 'self control' 'discipline' 'stick-to-it-' whatever you want to call it.

In my case this help comes through my Teams right here on SPARK PEOPLE!! What a blessing to know I can call on them any time
emoticon emoticon. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

TOPS (Taking Off Sensible) is a local support group where I weigh in weekly.

Another form of support has been my family as they are there for me to support my decision to healthy living. They too are focused, especially I gain a lot of strength for my exercise plan when I see my youngest grand daughter loving her own exercise plan and sticking to it faithfully. My oldest daughter who struggles with parkinson disease is such an inspiration to me. She is realizing her dream in becoming a pilates instructor, with a focus on those who have the same disease as she. We as a family support her...Odie their black lab is the star!
emoticonPaws for the Cause ~ Parkinsons!! I do the walk when possible! emoticon

*****Last but not least I want my life to please my God and He is there for me 24/7 and is my main source of strength.
*****He is my Rock!!*****

You've developed some wonderful healthy habits there Elaine...
That's right we need to keep fresh supplies of fruit & veggies readily available so they can become our first choice and as we enjoy them we can actually 'crave' them. Who would have thought it? lol

Chapter 3 ~ Getting A Plan

"My changing body revealed all my secrets...poor food choices were sabatoging my body, my mental energy, and even my spirit. Food had become like a drug. And, honestly, a good drug choice for a Christian woman. Every church event I attended readily provided my drug out in the open with no hesitation or judgement."

These are the words of Lisa Terkeurst author of Made to Crave.

Even as the hard work of digging, spading, planting, watering, weeding a garden reveal the end results; the proof of the result is in the PLANNING. The ultimate goal....aka end results will come when there is a specific PLAN.

Eating vegetables and fruit with abandonment, keeping the fat low (reading labels for nutrition values, and not buying anything higher than 4 grams of fat.), doing the same with carbohydrates (keeping a journal), sugar (reading the nutrition value and let it be the 3rd ingredient or more), protein at nutritional value. Using the Spark People tracking will show all these values. It will lay out for you a Healthy Heart Guide, a Diabetic Guideline, a low fat guide, Calcium values, Fiber values....all of this to produce a PLAN.

Now, that PLAN will only work if we WORK THE PLAN.

Someone had to learn the discipline of giving up some things and that someone was me!!! Those things were poor food choices that were sabotaging my body, my mental energy, and even my spirit. Did you get that .... past tense, were!!

"This journey will require you to make some tough sacrifices, but I've come to look at this process as embracing healthy choices rather than denying myself.
Speaking of gardens, I have a funny truth to share about the healthy eating plan I chose. Basically, I eat what a wild animal eats - meat and things that grow naturally from the earth. I was immediately encouraged by the possibilities of this new eating plan. I have yet to see an overweight animal in the wild lamenting over excess cellulite."

Along with Isaiah 43:18-19 "Forgetting the former things...

Psalm 34:4-8 "I sought the LORD, and he answered me, he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him."

CHAPTER 2 ~ Replacing My Cravings (Made To Crave ~ Lysa Terkeurst of Proverbs 31 Ministries)

This wasn't really about the scale or what clothing size I was; it was about this battle that raged in my heart. Something that God is challenging me to surrender to Him. REALLY SURRENDER. Surrender to the point that I make radical changes.

Is it possible that I rely on food more than I rely on God???

Psalm 78:18 "They willfully put God to the test by demanding the food they craved."

I John 2:15-16 " Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world, the cravings of sinful man, the lust of the eyes and the boasting of what he has and does comes not from the Father but from the world."

So, what are my challenges?

My friends want to gather and have dinner... The chosen place is one of my favorite ... Italian food, everything on the menu is salty, carbs, oh la la those Italians love oil drizzled on everything covered with cheesey!!! What are my choices??? emoticon emoticon emoticon

Well, one choice available... Pray!!! emoticon
"God, it's dinnertime and my friends are heading out for Italian food. I love Italian. I could seriously justify myself right into a big salad smothered with olive oil, a few bread sticks alongside. And now for the main entree! Oo la la!!! It's been a tough week. But, once again I'm choosing to pray instead of getting stuck in my cravings. Help me, God, to feel satisfied with healthier choices, limiting choices, and focus on my friends, our fellowship and slowly eating my healthy choices."

And that's how my prayers continue throughout the day.
Laying my requests at the feet of Jesus, like the psalmist says, waiting in expectation. Psalm 5:3

I cannot promise that I always will be faithful to it , or that the scale will drop, but it is a START!!!

1. God has given me power over my food choices. I'm supposed to consume food. Food isn't supposed to consume me.
But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for MY power is made perfect in weakness."... for when I am weak, then I am strong."
(II Corinthians 12:9-10)

2. I was made for more than to be stuck in a vicious cycle of defeat. You have circled this mountain long enough. NOW TURN NORTH."
(Deuteronomy 2:3 NASB)

My Cravings express themselves differently at different times.
~ When I am truly hungary I crave eating a balanced meal with protein, carbs, vegetables and usually something sweet when finished with the main meal.
~ One thing I notice is that when I go to a public place and am around people eating such as a potluck I am still craving when I return home and usually want to eat something and do.
~ Sometimes the craving monster hoovers & strikes when I am sad, or pressured to make a decision, or am uncomfortable around a situation or undesirable person.
~ Chocolate cravings accompanied by some gooey caramel hoover around me & attack..
~This is followed by a thought planted by the hovering monster saying salty craving...nuts, crackers & cheese, rice cakes, chips is a favorite ( the monster is the same one that urges me to put off doing a chore or much needed task like cleaning the garage or a closet )
~Watching a movie the monster hoovers near my seat attacking my emotions and I will secumb to popcorn, candy (chocolate, hard candy, or both).

What I would like to say to this imaginary monster is "Go now and bug someone else." "Leave me alone." "Get. Go. Bug off!!!You remind me of that pitch forked red monster...the devil...so go hoover over someone that wants you, now!"
"Don't you have some important business to take care of?"

How do I respond to the idea that God made us to crave? page 20
Definition (Dictionary.com) ~ something you long for, want greatly, desire eagerly, and beg for.
Yes, we were made to crave-long for, want greatly, desire eagerly, and beg for- GOD! But Satan wants to do whatever necessary to make us fall. So he works at it daily.
" Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world
~the cravings of sinful man,
~the lust of his eyes and
~the boasting of what he has and does
comes not from the Father but from the world " I John 2:15-16

Definition According to NIV Life Application Bible -
Cravings = trying to get our physical desires met outside the will of God
Lust of eye = trying to get our material desires met outside the will of God
Boasting = trying to get our need for significance met outside the will of God

Satan used all three tactics with Eve.
"When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food (cravings of the sinful man) and pleasing to the eye (lust of the eyes), and also desirable for gaining wisdom (boasting of what she has or does), she took some and ate it" Genesis 3:6

It does not stop there.

Jesus was tempted... in all three the same ways as we are.
Matthew 4:1-11
Jesus said to Satan, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.' "
Than the devil left him, and the angels came and attended him.

There is a significant difference between Eve and Jesus. Eve was saturated in the object of her desire. Jesus was saturated in God's TRUTH..
Jesus without hesitation, quoted Scripture and refuted Satan's temptation. Truth is powerful.

In my opinion the real battle is in the eye gate and the mind reflects what we focus on with our eye. She focused only on the object of her obsession. The apple hanging on the tree, she saw that it was pleasing, fruit pleasing to the eye, and desirable. She did not walk away and give herself time to really consider her choice. She didn't consult Adam. She didn't consider the truth of what God had clearly instructed. She didn't talk to God.

She focused only on the object of her obsession!

TRUTH IS POWERFUL. The more saturated we are with truth, the more powerful we'll be in resisting our temptations.

Quote Scripture like:
" 'Everything is permissible' _ but not everything is beneficial"
I Corinthians 10:23

To quote a famous person...

"It's not the years in your life that count,
It's the life in your years." ~ Abraham Lincoln

As one of my spark friends said, "Real life is in Jesus, life and joy for all of eternity!" The life in my years with Jesus is what really counts.

*My main goal was to make a short blog! Yes, I accomplished that but although it is a good quote something is missing so her is my add on:

To know Jesus is to breathe and think and act with a new, living hope. REAL HOPE I might take the liberty of saying it twice. To know Jesus is to begin to be able to live as God intended _ beyond comfort, expecting hardships in the world, but actually having His own holy joy!!

Jesus said in John 16:33 that we would have tribulations in the world, but we could be of good cheer, or be happy, because He had overcome the world. So, how does that apply to my life? When I am in Him and He is in me the same victory that caused Him to overcome will give me the victory and cause me to overcome as well! Wow! It's a win-win situation! Thank You, Jesus!
